Soon hopefully, but I've got one of those flat-peaked cap wearing ones so who knows

Comes from the Land rover clubs in UK... nitpicky pratts that will go totally off the deep end if they suspect that an old land rover has been put together/restored with the incorrect number of rivets... etc... much like the small group of BMW "rivet counters" on this forum that anally go after any car that is not OEM (in their absolute opinions of course!)

Ahh, right, gotcha. I must remember this saying when I am about to start counting the rivets on something.... in my defence it is usually when someone says "totally original" or "un-modified collectors car" when it has clearly been changed. if that helps.

Which takes us into another part of this subject - the modfied E30s, whilst there are collectors of M3s, M325is, Alpinas, etc. I am not so sure the very low Kms poverty spec 318i Autos that come up can be advertised for very high prices as they are "collectors cars", on the other hand does an engine swap or other mods increase the value of an E30 over factory?

A lot would depend on the quality of the work done, and how well it has been finished off, but everything else on the car being equal, would an E30 with a 2.5 24v swap be worth more / less than a factory 325i?

This is a sad situation, that car belonged to a member of one of the e30 Facebook pages and had it stolen for the rims ??

Damn. Still doesn't make sense why anyone would try to sell (guessing insurance company in this case) or buy this thing. You'd have to pay to some to take it.

Where does a 318is fit into all of this? Customer of mine is flirting with the idea of selling it, NZ New 100kms and immaculate condition. I suggested around the 20k mark but interested to hear others opinions

Yeah, that really sucks. I guess they took the whole car to take the rims off somewhere else and then torched it to get rid of any fingerprints, etc.

That really is a scumbag thing to do, you never mess with a man's wheels.

All that pain and aggravtion through destroying someone's pride and joy to take a couple of grands worth of wheels and tyres so you can sell them for a couple of hundred. Should be a death penalty for that kind of sh*t.

Yup, the 318is would certainly fit into the collectors category and would be well up there in terms of desirability. With the NZ New, low kms combo, and great condition I would think your estimate is in the right place - might take a while to find the right buyer, but certainly do-able.

Zee had one that needed light restoration that sold a number of months ago for approximately 15-16k, so around $20k wouldn’t seem out of the question. There was only ever 24 brought into New Zealand new as far as I’m aware.

Its been years since I've been on this forum but I hate to think what my old cars are now worth in this market.  This is more an exercise on the money spent and the cars now lost to me!

M325

318is

manual e36 touring ac schnitzer body kit

All NZ new.

Gone but not forgotten!

Well, still not as bad as Porsche 911 pricing.

But all it takes is one to sell for some absurd amount and the dreamers put their prices up.  Then the ones that retail for 10k will seem like a Bargain. The only thing that's missing is a few Petrolicious docos on how great and raw the 318i auto is to drive. I bet Dutton Garage will then have one on sale for $40k with 50k on the clock.

Yup - they are ridiculous. Cult following though, to the point where there are 911 owners who won't countenance any other Porsche as being worthy of the name. (They hate being reminded that the 928 was the first ground-up design by Porsche, for Porsche... ;) )

Porsche 911s are quite a bit more than a 3 Series when they are new though, so you would expect them to be worth more in later life especially given the scarcity factor of how many they made and or make. Although I do believe the last of the E30 M3s, the Sport Evolution, had a sale price equivalent to some 911s when it was launched in the UK but look at where they are now... if only.

Love that pricing on the E30 325i Convertible, I will have to increase the value on my insurance policy by a big chunk now. Considering the buyer would have got a big discount as it had been owned by the Twat in the Hat, probably used to run some Paparazzi over as well so would have damage.

Interesting thread. I think the value of a car is based solely on what someone is willing to pay for it. Some of you may know my old tech 1 baur which was written off in May, I got a significant amount of money back from insurance from it even though they wanted to go by market value. In my case they couldn't find one in our NZ market to compare it to so their vehicle valuer looked to the UK markets. Lets just say I got quite a bit north of 20k paid out for it. Depends on the vehicle also. the Motorsports do hold their value immensely. I have a client who's paid 25k for a tech 2 325i motorsport that's NZ New. absolutely immaculate condition though. The e30 market will continue to rise. They have become a cult car of sorts and a lot of young people love them.

@BMTHUG what was the amount you had it insured for? More or less than what you got paid out?

Nope I had it insured for significantly less but they kind of shot themselves in the foot wanting to go for market value. Bare in mind I insured it 5 years ago and didn't ever update the sum insured. Lessons to be learned with everything
