Wheel refurb sandblast + repaint

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Wheel Magician don't think they can fix my wheel and they believe it needs to be sandblasted and repainted.

Who does more extensive wheel repair work in Wellington....or Auckland?

Wheel in question:

AVP_1011

 Cheers,

A.

are they genuine? plenty of places in AKL that could refurb without sandblasting, wonder why they suggested to sandblast?

Yeah genuine. Yeah I thought it was abit extreme too, especially since last time he was here I showed him them and he said yeah no problem $120.

Cost me $500 a wheel at Wheel fix it in Auckland.  Full strip and repaint.

The alloy under the paint on that wheel is corroding. Which suggests poor paint prep. I assume that's why they suggested sandblasting as this is the best way to remove corrosion without removing too much metal like sanding.

Sandblasting is the best prep for any new coatings, the other option would be dip stripping, especially if you are going to have a polished or partly polished wheel.

Done mine this way, but a bit pricy:

1. Dip strip (Powers trip Industries, Mt Wellington) ~$40 per wheel

2. Fix and paint at Arrow Wheels out Kelston way. ~$250 per wheel

Worth it if they are genuine
