Possible purchase.

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone. I am looking at buying a 2005 330i sedan. This one:

https://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/bmw/auction-2057695274.htm

I have had a quick look at it today and it looks nice. Couple of things I could see were the electric rear window blind did not work (it just moves a small amount then moves back again). There was a warning about safety restraint system on starting up the car. All of the other electrics work. Engine nice and quiet. Is the blind a fairly easy DIY fix? Can the navigation system be updated with recent NZ maps (it already has NZ maps working but I am not sure how to find out how old they are!). Any advice as to what to look out for would be appreciated or if someone is nearby where the car is located then I am happy to pay them a box of beer to have a look at it to assess it. Thanks for any help with this.

Seems like a sharp price, especially if it has the options you want.

An SRS warning may prevent you from getting a warrant, have them fix that at their cost if you buy it. Get a mechanical warranty and seriously consider a pre-purchase scan and mechanical inspection by a BMW specialist.

No idea what 'new shape' is suppose to mean given its a pre-facelift and were are in 2019.

+1 to what Dave says. They are cheap for valid reasons.

“New shape” is most likely referring to the fact it’s the first model year of the E90 generation.

Personally, I’m quite weary when it comes to getting a first production year car. Some problems or reliability issues that pop up in the earlier cars can be fixed for the later production years.

In saying that, it’s a great price. An E90 330i is a great buy at under $6k

Looks good, and is priced right. Get someone who knows E9x's and N52s to have a look over it, they're solid cars but its easily possible to pay the asking price again in repairs (and for relatively mundane things)

Thanks for the advice people. Much appreciated. Does anyone know if you can get up to date maps for the navigation system (It is a CCC system but is currently running NZ maps). Also is anyone willing to look at it on my behalf (am happy to pay for their time rather than buying a lemon!).

You'll want to get it up on a hoist etc, have a yarn to bmworkshop etc and get them to do a PPI

it will cost you a fair bit of money to get updated maps done by a shop. if someone on here can assist you for less you are going to be lucky.

i think 6k is cheap but not a bargain considering the year/spec combination. these cars are only depreciating and that isnt changing anytime soon.
