2006 M5

Recommended Posts

Time for this to go to new home.  It's a solid, shiny car, makes some cool noises.  Sadly, I have a car that looks better and makes cooler noises and i have no time to enjoy either of them properly.

I have had it for 3 years and 25000km now.  It's had a few bit's and pieces done in that time.

2006 BMW M5.

  • $21000.
  • 91000km.
  • H&R lowering springs.
  • Serviced by Burgers Motor Works in June.
  • Aftermarket mufflers.
  • Stock everything else.
  • 8.5-9/10 condition wise.  You could get it up to a 9.5 with very little work.

Other work done:

  • ABS pump replaced.
  • VANOS ring seals replaced.
  • Spark plugs.
  • Air filters.
  • Diff seal.
  • Wheels completely refurbished and painted in black shadow.
  • Hood struts.
  • Battery.
  • Voltage regulator.
  • 1x idle actuator.
  • New BMW coolant.
  • Thermostat.
  • Front and rear windscreen seals.

Outstanding items:

  • Needs new tyres before next winter.
  • Downshift paddle is weak.  It's fully functional but needs to be taken apart and glued.
  • Still has japanese radio and nav.

Sell that bargain 130i you got.   Worth more than a 500hp V10 supercar it would seem.

Crazy how cheap these things are...

Does that make them a good candidate for a future classic?

E30's were junk for a while, now an Mtech2 is worth more than a 500hp super car.

I'm pretty sure mitsubishi gto are a future classic, perhaps these are also for the same reasons.

I realise some people will like it but that wood trim is pretty in-your-face. It might pay to see if you can find some inexpensive replacements in a more 'integrated' colour? Sell both with the car.

Obviously if these are M5 specific then "inexpensive replacements" is moot and my idea isn't so practical.

Re: the interior, yeah, it's quite bright wood, personally I like it but each to their own.

I could get it wrapped piano black or something, will see how long it hangs around for.  Same deal with the tyres really.  They're fine for the summer but gonna need doing for winter.

Re: GTO, yeah I reckon they're pretty cool cars.

Re: E60 M5 in general, the internet has done them a big dis-service, they aren't nearly as unreliable as they are made out to be.  Sure they have their issues but most of that is just BMW life.

The wood trim really glows at night with the amber LED lights on it. Makes it a nice place to be. Personal preferences though. I like it.

Can't see any e60 being a classic, regardless of v10. They just look terrible.

The rear quarter and back end of the e60 is a bit slab sided but overall i think it's a good looking car.

All BMWs have something in the styling that I don't like.

Bargain is right! 21k just seems wrong for so much car.

And people reckon an e36 M3 is worth 30+? ?

Yep, it's mental.  Whether someone gets $30k+ for an E36 M3 though?
