From what i can tell it looks to have the M90 (will confirm, now that i know to look for the L on the block)

Can confirm it is the M90 dont know if thats good or not. Also got told the valve guides may be on there way out thats why it got taken off the road.

Apparently got a little smoky after it got driven when warm

Ernst at Bavarian Motors in the Wairau Valley would be a good man to have a chat to.

He deals with a lot of older BMW's in this condition.  Could help you revive it and source parts.

Stunning car, great score and story.

I'm sure it will cause a few headaches but will be 100% worth it.

Personally not sold on the body kit, but looks like nice apart from that.

I suspect your steering wheel will be a different spline to anything post 1986, and being a 79 car it's mechanically an e12 rather than an e28. As a result the suspension is a little bit different.

M90 makes it a little bit more special than a standard m30b34/35 as it's got a larger bore and shorter stroke, making it in theory more rev happy.

Is the colour Henna red or Zinnober? Sensational colour! I am intrigued by the body kit. I see that the bumper assembly has been dechromed and the front spoiler looks sort of like one from a M635csi, and the rear diffuser kind of looks similar to the optional M-technic skirt available on later cars. Side skirt looks a tad different to the M- technic option.  Body colour side mirrors too- once again a M635csi feature. As for the boot spoiler, once again very unique- and despite not being a fan of spoilers sitting on boot lids- probably aesthetically appealing versus the clumsy 1st generation rubber spoiler on 1979 examples.. Externally it’s a far cry from a garden-variety, 1979 635csi. If it was mine, I’d try and get some recaro front seats like you could have ordered till around 85’. Stylish seats that would look far better than the comfort seats here.

The recaro’s which even some early M635csi’s had has an option. In my opinion, gorgeous seats.

Thanks

I am trying to source a good condition original steering wheel. Also got to find some centre caps which i dont think will be possible. I have only 1

Few centre caps on eBay for well over $1000nzd. Better off finding some alpina wheels, stealing the caps then reselling the wheels without them

i  am sure a good machinist could replicate some centre caps. The  price will be exorbitant but so is the alternative

Update:

Have got the car going runs really well.

Oil & filter done

Leaking frost plug changed

Power steering fluid changed and bled

Brake fluid changed and bled.

Drove it home and spent saturday polishing it up with the mrs.

Came up better than expected.

Starting to like this car more and more. Especially with how little its costed me so far.

So it's been easier than your VVTi soarer? Haha.

That red colour is looking pretty sharp.
