Recommendations for Personalised Plates (standard vs slim)

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone

I am looking at getting some personalised plates with "SAPPH" for my 2010 320i but not sure what will suit it best?

Currently I have standard plates front and back, but was thinking maybe slim front and standard back?

Recommendations welcome :)

I don't think you can buy one of each size. They are sold as pairs

You can get one of each, I did for my 1er.

Slim looks terrible on the back, it's too small. They look great on the front though IMHO.

Edit: you'll need a frame for the large Euro plate, the slim front one has holes and you screw it to the bumper.

slim = euro?

No Euro = wide, Slim = smaller in all dimensions, see above.

I have mix on my 2002 Turbo, slim on front & wide on back ...

I watched an episode of Car SOS that restored a 2002 turbo just this week. They took a total rust bucket that didn't run and handed back a concourse example, it was astonishing.

I wish slim didn't have the black fern on one side. It looks unbalanced.

I didn't even know plates.co.nz had lost the contract in 2016..  Though that was when I left NZ for a bit.

I did not know that, I would have got one if I'd known.

Although it does seem that if you want a Euro rear plate you get a logo on the front plate too. Perhaps you can make two separate orders?

Yep. You would have to cough up $149 to remake a set with normal slim and $199 for a long euro if upstyling or whatever the cost is for a new combination.

Didnt know that either. Its a shame it costs so much to turn a plate into another style, when it only costs something like $20 to remake plates if they are damaged.

for normal style but personalised plates its $32~, for Euro plates its $52~, for BMW plates its $82~

all a bit different but $200~ is not too bad for a restyle considering admin costs/manufacture etc.

the $1000-3000 cost for a new make annoys me though, it doesnt need to be that much at all.

You can only get the BMW logo via BMW and they charge you $300 for the privilege !

I wouldn't buy one these days unless it was for a business.
In the US it was only $10 per year for a personalized plate...

And you could pick from over 200 plate types in Virginia alone.
