Good Auckland drives?

Recommended Posts

Any suggestions for any good drives around the Auckland area? I'm relatively new here and have not had any cause to do much pleasure driving :D

South of the Bombay Hills is always good.  ?

Heading towards Kaiaua around the Coast is nice.
Everywhere else I used to drive is built up and busy now.

Thanks!

"South of the Bombay Hills" ... I get it :D

Where is Kaiawa ? The only match I find is a street in Beachlands....

It's spelt Kaiaua . Awhitu Peninsular is a good drive too . Heaps of beaches to go to out there.

I like the drive down SH16 from Wellsford through Helensville - decent roads and great scenery.

Need to try the Awhitu Peninsula and the famous Pohutakawa coast drive.

Might need to drag myself out of bed early on a spring Sunday morning and 'beat the traffic'.

+1 for Awhitu Peninsular

We go out there a lot and stay out at Hudsons Bay. My wife's ancestors settled the Peninsular. She is a Logan descendant

The issue is traffic.  The last time I tried driving any of those roads they were busy on the weekends.  And that was a good 6 years ago.
Maybe covid has quietened things down?

Week days and non holiday times are the best out there

We usually assault West Cost Road - Woodcocks road and SH16 for spirited driving.

Port Waikato...?

This is why I'm looking forward to a (semi deserted?) South Island road trip in a few weeks.

Shame I'll be in a RAV4 rental ?

I thought this read “Good Auckland drivers?”

Why would anyone ask such a question?! ?

Another vote for SH16.

Had some time to drive part of the route...didn't have enough to to go all the way around, but was some lovely driving, great views and some nice twisty bits!

I find it laughable the speed limit on the motorway is 100 but you can legally drive 100 for most of the roads on this route :D
