The dream as a kid was always to have a car I could race, and have fun with a bunch of mates. The idea was to do some autocrosses etc and build up skills to eventually do a couple track days. Lucky for me i have that bunch of mates, who share that very vision, AND also dont have thousands to spend on a car. We invite you to join us on this low budget journey. There will be heartbreak, betrayal but mainly greasy hands and lots of swearing..... The search began, now when I say budget I mean budget. Rwd and manual were 2 things we needed. One day a $1 reserve E36 pops up on the ol' tard, which we swiftly go and visit. The car checks out, it's a 1996 325i, auto however but has wof and reg and a sunroof! Leather interior and heated front seats. Thursday 8pm is when the auction closed so the bidding war began naturally at about 7:50pm. One of us bids while the other 3 cheer on trying to win this as cheaply as possible. Success! For a fiver under $600 we have a fully road legal e36 coupe! The manual conversion came about with a bit of wheeler dealing by me. A PS3 plus tons of games was traded for a Getrag 220, linkages and flywheel. The rest was bought which wasn't so bad. We have progress!!!!! After a lot of cursing and swearing and trying all sorts of different things the push to get the motor in quickly, i gave up and pulled the motor out to sit on the garage floor for a couple of weeks to rethink my plan of attack. I also needed to replace the c101 plug on the loom as the leveller had damaged it. In the end i ended up stripping the motor back to a bare long block to fit and removed and plugged the heater hoses and BOOM it fits Have got the driveshaft hoops all in after re-mounting one of them, and need to re-look at my shifter as when it was shortened and welded it seems to have warped slightly causing 5th & 6th gear to bind a little bit. Considering going to a solid mounted shifter like an AKG or similar to sort it all out. Seeing as the motor was all in i decided i would like to see how the final picture may look so put it all together with kit (excluding side skirts) to geth an idea of the look. I have some spacers coming for the front to even out the offset, i did have some but was sent e39 ones and not e36 ones so will get an idea of the final offset soon. Also got the rear wheels together so just need to get tyres mounted and will get them on for a test fit also

Ok, after much deliberation on what to replace an E38 with. I've gone with the S8 Audi. Keeping the Silver E38, can't part with that. I looked at a few E65s and after throwing up in my mouth consistently, I decided I needed to look elsewhere. E60 550, been there. Options on large sedans with autos and pace with style are quite limited and this baby ticks all the boxes. It's a NZ New, 1 owner with full Audi service history, 140ks. love the look and the options boxes are well ticked. V10 5.2l 450hp, B&O upgrade audio, keyless entry. All the full A8 options. Drove back from Auckland, got 11.6l/100ks which was better then I thought. Included some spirited Action from the V10, sounds quiet glorious through the hills. will keep a running record of maintenance and ownership here

Sometimes cars aren't worth more than others just because they have low mileage, it just means it will sell faster. Some people fail to see that. I think this car is worth more than most other e46 M3's but not by $15-20K, personally.

Back at it again with the white compact. 130i 6 speed. It could do with an LSD but it's fun enough as is.

Hi guys, After hunting around for a nice E46 M3 for quite a while I finally found one worth taking up. Usually I buy my cars in original condition so I can do my own thing to them but I feel this one was worthy of an exception. This used to be Charl's M3 as some of you will know (not sure if he's a member or not). The interior colour scheme isn't exactly my first choice but it's actually growing on me! I'll add some of my own photos this week but will post a few below. 1984 320i coupe (1983 build) Manual Henna red Power steering new tyres new cambelt and water pump Seats almost unblemished, very slight wear on drivers seat but have had covers throughout previous and current ownership new shock absorbers No rust in sunroof 163,000km (odo/tacho stopped there when I got her about 3 years ago, so add around 2000km to that which includes a couple of Kerikeri to Auckland trips, and the odd Sunday drive up north. Owned by a friend since the mid 1980's then sold to me. Drives like a dream, but let down by her paint which shows a history of bad resprays of odd panels. Will want a full paint job. No major rust, completely absent in rear boot corner-wells and other usual places, but there is the odd dot from stone chips and also surface rust inside the bonnet(treated) which has also just been backed into and given a small dent by perhaps a ute. This cracked the paint as well. Typewritten and signed letter from Colin Giltrap in the original owners manual/ service history stating that it is a demonstrator car not a rental as registered, which is a nice bit of history. $4200 Car is located Kerikeri in my mother's garage, I am in Auckland.

Sounds good to me. I was toying with the idea of a smaller heater box using PC cooling components but not sure if it'll have the airflow needed. Also no reason not to hardwire it in if it's frowned upon as a plug-in

If it's an N42 or N46 replace the brake vacuum pump as well as the booster and brake master cylinder. The oil will damage the booster and master cylinder seals

What wheels does it come on for that price, and what does it need to pass a WoF? Rego on hold or needs re-compliance?

Reliving a bit of e30 80s nostalgia. Removed everything from car that is not bmw factory related. Out goes acs pinstripes,acs grille badge , modern head unit, eyelids,dash dial chrome surrounds,black kidney grille. In comes 15" weaves, is lip, mtech1 boot spoiler, 1988 alpine 7167 head unit, mtech1 steering wheel,chrome kidney grille..........and to top it off, a selection of mid 80s cassettes........yes I was an 80s teen........call it a sickness or mid life crisis....lol is now all original bar the e30 series suspension, looks cool and 80s tastic.

Moving on from yesterday, took the left front guard off. Inner wing is destroyed, and bulkhead corner is pretty messy. This is going to be a challenging fix, but from what I can tell it is still repairable. Wouldn't be economically viable, but I have the welder so I'm not paying for it. Might be a good 5 year project now though!

Have started cleaning the new E30. Found the source of the stale smell, rear ashtray full of butts. Got carried away because the rear seat belt latches don't fit in the seat holders, so swapping in the rear seatbelts from the racecar (kept for 9 years in case I needed them one day). Everywhere the previous owner has had rust repaired is rusting again, badly. Pretty disappointed but I knew it was going to be a project. The 2 year old paintjob will be re-done before another 2 years is up, might look at colour options because white isn't doing it for me.

320i coupe paddock basher from a few years back loads of fun even as a auto . also had various overs like 316ti 5spd 318is 5spd etc etc but the stripped down coupe went quite well

Almost finished the refurb on the motor just a few more seals to get and will be all back together again.
