Hi folks, had this a while but just been tarting it up, sold the convertible, no use to me during winter and was after a decent unmolested E30 as my daily and found this little gem, just a baby 318i auto (for now) - came on bottle caps but stumbled across mint 15" basketweaves (the mrs was talking to her hairdresser who had some under his house for years, lucky find!), removed the go-faster stripes it had and did a 4 stage cut and polish while the weather was nice. Sourced a decent stereo to match the orange light interior (from Bonnie Scotland of all places - matches really well and fixed up a couple of glovebox torches - got a mint reupholstered mtech steering wheel (from Ireland) via ebay and currently in the process of getting some msport seats reupholstered in the original indigo stoff fabric, also fixed the stuck odo with some new gears - will be a little near - minter when done - oh yea, and got some front fogs coming too

400km/h is very fast. Much faster than the majority of people will ever experience in a land vehicle, and that it now features as a 'contest' between car manufacturers is astonishing. On August 6th, a very carefully prepared Bugatti Chiron performed an astonishing - incredible? - feat by accelerating from 0-400km/h, and back to a standstill, in around 42 seconds. Two parts of this sentence are important - the 'carefully prepared' part, and the 'around 42 seconds' - normally I'd be a lot more precise. However, that's now irrelevant. On October 1st, a hastily cobbled together attempt on the same feat was carried out by Koenigsegg using a customers car. Last minute location arrangements using a bumpy, unprepared and slippery concrete military runway which was strictly too short for the purpose, no other car being available so "we took a customer car which had been prepared for delivery," and a factory driver who wasn't confirmed as available until the day of the drive. Which took over 5 seconds less than the Chiron. Actually, 0-403-0 in 37.28 seconds. The 0-400-0 took just 36.44 seconds. The final run included wheelspin when changing into 3rd gear, logging show 183km/h at the time. The 0-400 acceleration is on a par with the world's fastest production motorbike which, derestricted, also takes 26 seconds to reach 400km/h. It does cost a little less, of course. Full details of the Koenigsegg run are here. But for those who thought tl;dr and couldn't be bothered with the link, here's a video.

One thing to note... if you’re in a situation like I was, my fuel filter was 16 years old. It was causing a misfire in cylinder 2.

Have you cleaned the throttle body, the ICV, and the maf? These are all free to do, apart from the costs of the cleaners, which you will use again anyway.

Did some late night wrenching after my E36 failed WoF (front outter ball-joints loose). Removed Control Arms to replace the ball-joints. Got carried away and: Removed rear caliper and discs, cleaned up hubs and dust covers. I picked up some E46 328i rear calipers and discs to replcace them with as they're a slight upgrade on the E36 rear end. Will be on the hunt for 330i front brakes next. Pulled old shocks (labelled as 318is, in a 6cyl, may have contributed to soft rear end) before I upgrade the suspension front and back. Also have some new rear side window seals to replace the cracked and hardened ones on there atm.

In a moment of lucidity (not lunacy I swear) I took the entire steering column to a look smith to get a key made... who promptly told me he needed the drivers door lock. And got some fresh plates for the e46.

Im happy, they look new. Having a mare trying to find new centre caps, but the work Manukau Auto and Tyre did is really good

$1200 including the 4 (BBS RC) centre caps. Full chemical strip, remove curbing, balance, prep, paint and clear. The paint I liked was quite expensive, I think it was an extra $50 a wheel. I didn't get the barrels painted. It could have been less expensive if I was prepared to dick around more. Some places would do it but I had to get the tyres on and off, other places would paint them if I got the curbing done first, others required me to have the stripped before they'd prep and paint. Too much effort. I just wanted a simple equation to get them done. Stoked with the result.

You wont be disappointed stepping into a V8 believe me. In fact it will be hard to go back . Oh and don't get too obsessed with 'fuel gauge' watching, as I often say "its not how much it costs to fill a tank that matters. it's how fast you empty it . In all seriousness enjoy your BMW SS Commodore and I'm sure it'll tick all your boxes!
