Completed a Bluetooth install on all three BMW's today. Bought a later Business CD radio for both the e46 and e39 530 (doing away with the cassette) and three Bluetooth adaptors off ebay. No steering wheel controls but that's OK for meantime, sound is great. Had to scratch around for a switched 12v supply handy on the M5 and used the torch supply in the glovebox. If anyone wants the old cassette radios for both e46 and e39 then free to any home...

I bought a not bmw for my dear missus last night It's like a cross between an e39 540 and a nice w211 Except much better and more gadgets. And more importantly more comfortable and I shouldn't have to work on it ?

local body elections need to be reformed. Even if a mayoral candidate was voted in by 100% voter take up , they are just a figure head with 1 vote on the board. and no power what's needed in my opinion is a party/group/Team, kinda like the general elections without the MMP factor with the power to sack/fire those that are making poor decisions . The bureaucrats that sit in the background for years glad-handing their way up the corporation ladder should have to under go KPI's ( the bigger the paycheque the tougher the kpi's ) every 2years or get sacked. And because its basically a publicly owned company/corporation, how and where the money was spent should be freely available on their website in a easy to understand format. every cent. At the moment they set a budget and go about spending our money. eg. parks get a big slice of the pie, millions. but is doesn't breakdown how that money was spent. its just in the budget.

Last week's maintenance update: 2002 E46 325i Touring. 192080kms. New front tyres. Same as last time, Bridgestone Potenza RE003 in 225/45R17. On special this month, buy a pair, 25% off. Under $400, result. Headlight lens treatment, @Autoglym does the business. Last time I did this I used one of those kits, masking, wet sanding with progressive grades of grit, then polishing with a drill, and some UV sealant afterwards. If you've got crusty old faded lenses, get Barry to sort them out for you quickly and efficiently. New WoF. Yes, f#%k VTNZ, no more money for them. As promised, after my last VTNZ experience, three of my vehicles have already gone to an independent. A Barry's Garage wash and vac, and under bonnet detail. Sparkly sparkle! Bloody luxury for me, I can tell you ?. e46 Touring LCI headlight detail (photo credit @Autoglym) e46 Touring LCI headlight detail (photo credit @Autoglym) e46 Touring LCI - sparkly M54B25 (photo credit @Autoglym) e46 Touring LCI with added shine. Yes, she's carrying some battle scars. 7.5 years of tree sap, stone chips from touring, supermarket carparks, freindly neighbours, and family wagon duties will do that. We've had this car 7.5 years now, and still enjoying it. Yes we've spent plenty on it, though money we spend each year keeps it in good reliable and safe operation, and we avoid a $20k-plus spend on a replacement X3 or similar. This year it's had the VANOS done along with oil filter housing gasket, valve cover gasket and seals, and the handbrake replaced. It's the second time for the valve cover seals and oil filter housing gasket, they were last done 7 years ago. The VANOS seals (Beisan Systems) has improved drivability and smoothness, lower-RPM responsiveness/willingness is restored. Today the e46 will be pulling duty as workhorse, lugging end of life IT kit (printer, iMac, 3 laptops) to the recycling centre, and part of our kitchen to the tip. Yesterday's fun was demoing a couple of cupboards to make room for a new fridge and freezer. It's fun to drive, and still utilitarian being a wagon; versatile transport. I've ordered a pair of wiper blades (around 12 months per set, I find) and a couple of new grilles, as the current ones have been hanging in there by the skin of their teeth for some time. I still really dig this car. e46 lyf. wagon lyf. Two for the price of one!

Pretty good outing considering he had 1/8th the marketing budget, He's already said he will be standing again next time, heres hoping he can get more traction next time around. Its pretty amazing how the media affect who sees what, the whole things so slimey.

Nice car, nice job and nice write-ups! One thing I would suggest you check before you do the head gasket is the rocker cover gasket and in particular the 4 U shaped rubber inserts at the front and rear. The inserts go hard from the heat cycles and start to leak oil, which runs down on to the head gasket. Much cheaper and easier to fix!

Took my F22 into Bridgestone to fix a slow leak on left rear. They said they couldn't do it right then, so I said, fine, I leave it with you, you call me when done. 4:15pm rolls around with no call, so I wander over to see if they are done fixing the puncture. Walk up to reception, tell them I'm there to pick up the black F22. Reception guy says "let me get someone else to help you" as he quickly walks off to get someone else. Someone else turns up and says "Hi, I need to show you something". I say as I follow him out, expecting to be told that I need to buy a new Michelin Pilot Super Sport, "I don't like being told I need to be shown something"! We walk out to my car, only to be shown instead a dented passenger door and rear wheel arch and a scratched up side skirt. At that point I'd happily have needed to buy a new tyre instead. Somehow someone had driven the side of my car into the back of a white Toyota Corolla. What did I do to my BMW today? Spent an hour making an insurance claim for damage when I wasn't even driving the car.

and then it couldn't find a gear. Booked into Auto38 on Tuesday. In the mean time I scanned it myself, ISTA-D came up with codes 31-EGS: Symptom gear monitoring, 32 -EGS: Symptom gear monitoring 1, 35 -EGS: Symptom gear monitoring 3, 3B EGS: Stall speed and 8- IKE: EGS signal line disturbed. Cleared them, drove it...shifted fine for about 3 mins and then started slipping again in 3rd or 4th and then went back into limp mode, same codes. I've been googling but looks like some serious multimetering is the next step. I'll leave that up to Jon.
