I'd just go to what has been proven to work for DIY applications. It's not like we have to enter F1 specifications to have a bit of fun and enjoy doing it.

Yeah it's certainly a strange one to explain! the Honda, despite having a bigger premium on it, is rough in comparison so i'm not as precious about things like keeping the ks down etc. In saying that, it probably will also fall to the same regime the M3 did haha! I guess the main difference will be the fact that it is a longstanding dream car for me, so even if its seldom used like the bmw was, I wont feel as guilty (or so I hope!) Nah, it's an AW11 I had LITERALLY just finished restoring. was a total rotten mess when I got it, we do have an FD though! (i'll post a photo of them all below) I'll just note that the Honda isn't mine (yet), we're still mid negotiating stuff, so I don't wanna upload anything up for sure at the mo, but once its all finalized i'll put some cheeky pics of it up (i'll slap some bmw stickers on it to keep it "relevant" ) Hopefully this will suffice in the meantime!

I also started / finished wiring up the engine in preparation for its first start up. A good mate had supplied a patch harness, so with that in hand, a spare accel pedal and the ECU I began to wire it all in. Once done I trimmed the E39 530i loom back to remove the rear O2's (coded out on DME) and the auto trans components of the loom. I'll tidy the loom further and tuck in behind the M3 wiring hardness covers (sitting on the windscreen) once the engine is running. Also put more assembly lube on the cam lobes in preparation and (SHOCK) oil in the sump. Winning.

Some muppet just paid $50K usd for a sh*t old Civic. An absolutely lackluster non Type R yawn machine. So if fools are collecting Nana's Civic. Great Grandma's beige 320i Auto 4 door poverty edition is worth big bucks right?

Why do I find the ridiculous E30 prices so frustrating? So much of it is ream stereotyped "I know what I've got" type stuff, too. Yes - prices are rising. But $9k for a car with no WoF? (We're not talking M-anything or even all that uncommon.) $4k+++ for a car with significant issues - an automatic that can't be relied on to find reverse. Similar for cars described as having "a little rust" - yeah, right. Nah. Must be silly season.

Get to the fuel filter area... the underside tray comes off easy enough for a look, a gap in the air con vent will not lead to fumes of that significance in cabin without a leak... check fuel fittings in engine bay as well.

yep, looks like standard msport to me

Now turning to some things that were planned previously and never happened due to the car not being driveable(un-safe) during lockdown/most of my ownership: - Alignment. New rear tyres fitted, that have barely been driven on, this is first up. - Paint touch up on the wheels, hopefully same time as alignment. - Supersprint exhaust back box from my parts car. Will give it a polish before fitment. - New antenna, ordered today as I fitted a stock one sourced from here but I didn't like the look once fitted. Ordered a stumpy one. - Headlight and side indicator tidy up, have a headlight lens restore kit which I'll use to clean and protect the headlights. After all these things are done there's still a couple of cosmetic issues with the car. But I'm going to drive it and enjoy it for a while before dealing with them. Some pics from antenna fitting today:

Congrats on the sale and purchase, but cant help but laugh at you not enjoying your M3 for risk of damaging it, and then buying an NSX. The NSX is god level compared to an M3 ? But at the end of the day, its just a car. Fang it and enjoy it.

So im making a new thread as my last one was heading this way. I bought my 130i last week for a beautiful price of $3900. The car was owned by a lady for the 4 years since it has been imported. Its an 06 manual it looks lowered but i could be wrong as it doesnt have aftermarket shocks or springs in it. Has a full Arqray tail section stainless exhaust, which sounds great. I have since debadged the silly 3.0 si badge. It has an open diff which is a bit frustrating. The car is going in on thursday for a tune. I'm also grabbing a new rear BMW badge off Brent at some stage. Here is some photos that i have so far.

Up for sale is my father’s 2000 BMW E39 540i Motorsport. Unfortunately, the automatic transmission has died. It still drives but will produce a ‘Trans FailSafe’ on the cluster, it clunks when changing gears after warming up. We had it looked at by Mainstreet Transmissions in Hamilton, they suggested finding a replacement or rebuilding this unit. This happened in February, the car has sat on his property since then, whilst he mulled over a decision to keep and fix or sadly flick it off…. Exterior: Reasonable condition, no major damage. Two dents on the bonnet - from a tree branch... A few scratches here and there, front bumper has a paint scrape and cracks along the bottom corners. Rear bumper has scratches and cracks – see photos. Rims are in ok condition, paint chips and curbing. Interior: Pretty good condition with a few blemishes. Everything works as it should, display on the cluster has faded pixels. Cup holders are still usable. Maintenance: Most of the maintenance and repairs have been done by myself and dad. -All coil packs and spark plugs have been replaced (2016) -Diff and transmission fluid replaced in 2017 -Coolant and brake fluid replaced annually -Engine oil and filter replaced every 10,000kms using Castrol Magnatec 10w40. -Timing chain guides and associated ‘while I’m in there parts/gaskets’ replaced (2017) -Alternator, battery, belts tensioners, coolant hoses, expansion tank, water pump, thermostat, fuel filter, PCV system, valve cover gaskets, valley pan gaskets (2017) -Vanos units rebuilt using the Besian procedure (2017) -All front and rear suspension components, bushes, arms, tie rods, ball joints, swaybar links. Shock absorbers replaced with Bilstein units (2018) -Front pads and rotors replaced, rear pads were replaced last year. -New fog lights last year Faults: Transmission issues – listed above Airbag light is on, seat occupancy sensor is at fault.. Drivers headlight a little faded Rear brake pad sensor is toast, replace it or disable the fault code Tyres are close to being worn out. Currently at: 261,446kms Last oil change was at 260,000kms WOF: Expired last month Rego: Until October Car will come with a few receipts, two remote keys (one key was brand new from Coombes last year) I have explained all known issues, this car will be sold AS IS WHERE IS. Yes it still drives, will it make it to Auckland? It might do but I wouldn’t advise it. Notes: -Photos show the 16:9 monitor, this has been removed and the 4:3 unit has been reinstalled -Missing rubber strap in the boot has been found and put back in -We have considered parting it out, don't really want to at this stage... Will be advertised here on BimmerSport for 7 days and then I will list on trademe. $3000.00 No trades. Feel free to call/text me on 027 461 7017. Photos:

Yusss... I'd really like a set of Wagner downpipes because of the flexi section, but the price of getting a set into NZ is crazy. So I shall just order a China made set and settle for less than perfection. The money I save will easily cover the cost of installation plus buy a set of BMS filters for the intake side Cheers...

Few questions, how do the UUC combos have higher kenitic energy if they spin up quicker? surely energy is only conserved... Why does the Fid&M5 have so much more kinetic energy than UUC&M3 but have near identical rotational inertia?

Yeah looks like standard Msport. Standard shocks and springs are black and likely still have the bmw part numbers on em. This thread needs more pics, want to see goodies you got for stupidly low price.

Ok so to do this did you get the position of the steel surfaces (where the weight is) on the UUC flywheels calculated into the equation? Or did you make assumptions? As that will no doubt have an influence on the last two calculations. Also for all we know your calculations could have been tailored to win an argument. Also your calculations on tensile strength have you measured a UUC flywheel, are you familiar with its construction, alloy grade etc? Again this will have a big impact on the torsion numbers as well. Looking at my flywheel if has a number of dimensions in regards thickness and angles plus the torsional strength will change where the friction surface is bolted as of course it will for the ring gear. Have you calculated all these variables because I suspect the calculation will be very complicated, or as you stated in one of your earlier posts used rough calculations. Based on the way you have formulated your arguments over the past number of years perhaps the numbers reflect what you want them to reflect? Also re your earlier comment on balance I discussed this with the machinist who is building a motor for me at present and he said that when it comes to balance a light flywheel with a heavier clutch plate is a complete red herring as there are so many other factors that will have a greater influence on balance . As the two are joined and the pressure plate is less likely to be in perfect balance the effects of the crankshaft and the harmonic balancer will have as much influence as the PP and FW, does the car run balance shafts, is it internally or externally balanced? are a few other things he said need to be factored in. He made it clear that the whole rotational assembly needs to be balanced as a unit if perfect balance is required. In his 40 odd years of experience in building race engines, that this step has negligible benefits and the main culprit of a noticeable imbalance is the pressure plate, but this can vary depending on the position of the clutch plate as it obviously never goes back to the same place. As to plane torsion the figures are to a certain extent irrelevant as there is no figure to determine at what power lever rpm etc the torsional deformation has an impact on the performance of the unit, ie once something is strong enough making it stronger serves no purpose.

Replacement hoses arrived today. Drained and flushed out the old coolant with distilled water. Refilled with 50/50 BMW blue coolant and distilled water. Went for a bit of a drive and so far no issues. I raised the front of the car this time and tried to make sure there was no trapped air. Time will tell if it still overflows. Can take some photo's of the ledge and bracket I made up if you like? I won't be able to remove the expansion tank but should be able to get enough detail for you to DIY...

I didn't like the last generation of Lexus due to their over sized grill with much of it being fake. Don't like this one either. But it's designed for China not the enthusiast.

So after many months of tribulations the car is running again! I'm very happy ? Huge shout out to @KwS for helping me out with the valvetronic motor diagnosis and install with bmw software to set the limits. Got it done quick and it worked! He's an absolute legend. Also thanks to fcpeuro for the parts, delivered during lockdown too! After multiple trips to a euro mechanic since owning the car at Xmas, it still wasn't running right. Replaced the PCV, MAF, Eccentric shaft sensor, rocker cover gasket and had the front of the motor off to check the chain and tensioner. This was all done individually over the course of a couple of months and several back and forth trips to mechanics. Each time the 130i would then run OK for a day or two but then have further faults and run like trash. After the last major bill that "fixed" the car. I bought myself a carly scanner(scan tool should be mandatory if you own a bmw for real) and decided I would have a crack at it myself. I don't doubt that the parts replaced by the mechanic had issues or were faulty but it wasn't the main cause and it always seems to deteriorate after leaving their care. @KwS and his bmw software gave me a hidden fault code pre-lockdown of a stuck valvetronic motor, which was giving off strange live readings. It would work OK after reset then proceed to fall out of parameters. A bit of googling and I ended up ordering everything in the valvetronic chain, electronic and mechanical. I replaced fuses and an electronic module linked to the valvetronic system, plus did spark plugs as a "while I'm there" job during lockdown(also did plugs on my black 4 door). Used carly to clear faults and it came back, sometimes car would start and drive fine for a bit and other times wouldn't even start. So all that was left was the motor(plus gasket). Valvetronic motor is the silver cylinder on the left hand side of the engine, this is actually my black 130i from when I was doing spark plugs. I didn't take any pics working on the white one lol Once we were set free, @KwS came round on Sunday and fitted up the motor and gasket. Not a super difficult job except for one tricky bolt underneath, having to wind and unwind the motor to tension and removing the electrical wiring on the side to make room. Plus the software adjustment. Some of the coils and plugs/wiring that need to be removed to get to the motor bolts for removal. After we started it up and set limits it ran so goddamn beautifully. Improved throttle response and actual power when you put your foot down. Been driving it last two days and it's just great. Really happy to finally have my car back after months of frustration.

Vapour blasting would take the metal back to steel, then you spray the bay with no clear in your gun. It’s incredibly simple to mimic paint finish as poor as BMW have been outputting over the last 20 years. The challenge really is to get as much orange peel into the clear as they seem to.

I nearly purchased a new Honda NSX but it didn't have enough room for the kids. I got a new Celica 2000GT instead
