Have to change the name of the site to "130i Owner's NZ" at this rate...

Pulled the motor from the M3 this week preparing for a full rebuild. Was a driveway job, never pulled a motor before either so was definitely a learning experience. Tried to take as many photos as I went, but in hindsight still not enough. Generally the process was look at what's hanging on, take a photo, rip it out, bag and tag. Struggled with fitting the headers past the transmission bellhousing when lifting the motor for about 20 minutes before I realized I could just take the headers off lol. Came out no problem after that. Overall, easier than I thought. Looking forward to having a freshened up engine. Tempted to go all in and get some bigger Schrick cams while its all being done, would go well with the CSL airbox... but then again maybe my eyes are too big for my wallet.

You're awfully keen to talk it down; three posts on the first page questioning it's parentage based purely on assumptions. @Blackie is taking a factual, unemotional look at it.
  5. 2 points
Maybe. Just I feel people are making a lot of assumptions without having called about the car or viewed it. Some are E46 M3 owners of course.

I am after 3 Instrument cluster/OBC bulbs for my E34. They look like this, anyone have any in NZ before I order from overseas?

It definitely wasn't the cheapest, but definitely cheaper than a brand new one, plus could choose the leather and stitching etc. After seeing so many positive posts and reviews about them on youtube, and other forums, I had it done by royal steering wheels in the UK. Cost was £175 (Incl. VAT) + £60 Postage + £100 deposit. Will get the deposit refunded once I post my steering wheel back to them. As I said, not cheap, but the quality is excellent!!

So now that the flywheel and clutch is sorted I can get started on fitting the rest of the interior bits and pieces I’ve been buying over the last few months. Luckily I purchased them before having to fix the clutch or it may not have happened ? Which brings me to... Interior update #2: retrimmed steering wheel in smooth nappa leather, with M tricolour stitching and black alcantara centre insert. Before and after below...

Wasn't today, but over the last few days and weeks... 116d was all good when I plugged the PDC control unit back in after drying it out, so that was a relief. Was fully expecting the circuits to be fried / damaged after being submerged for awhile but clearly more resilient than I thought. So that was car number one ticked off the list, wife happy again. 330d all back together again, a couple of test drives around the block and all good - goes a lot better without the big split in the charge pipe (not surprising really). Put it in for the warrant and it failed on a couple of things - one of the headlight bulbs was mis-aligned and one of the tyres had a bulge in it, probably from sitting too long on the drive. Fixed the headlight bulb and got a new tyre from the legends at P&S Autocentre, back in for a re-check and boom! now has a warrant and rego. Now to give it a good clean and a tickle up and get it sold. Car number two kind of ticked off. So did this mean I could now get back to the race car.. hell no. The dishwasher decided it was going to pack a sad and break a hinge off the door and basically fall apart, so had to strip that right down, find the broken bit, weld it up and put it all back together again to keep wife happy again. Another job ticked off Happy to say I have now cleared everything else out of the way (literally and metaphorically) to get back on to the race car and have spent some time on it over the last couple of days. Fingers crossed nothing else breaks in the near future so I can get a good run at it.

Recently picked up a 2007 130i, first BMW I've had! Turns out it's from a member here (Chester), but I didn't know at the time - wish I took advantage of the bimmersport discount he offered! It seems well looked after, but has a few little blemishes here and there, but for the price I couldn't turn it down. I've got a few plans for it. Changed out the battery last week when it gave out on me and threw every fault code it could - scary experience! New bumper, mags, aero spoiler etc etc, normal stuff. Firstly though I'll get a transmissions service. Photo's to come!

It has been a very long complicated road, but she's back, with a rebuilt engine: Drove it to work, was nice to hear that exhaust note again, wish the M4 sounded like that! Will probably put her up for sale soon... doesn't make sense to keep this and the M4. Anyone want a stuffed N55? The guys did pull it open, said it certainly looked like the bearings were not getting oil as they were destroyed, some of them apparently had even split apart. . Potentially the cylinder head is worth something to somebody: If anyone wants to buy it let me know, otherwise it'll go to the scrap pile

the 2.8L in a 7 series isnt as bad as it sounds. its certainly no rocket but it can still cruise very well and still get up to speed reasonably quick. I think you cant be picky with E38's given how few there must be now

Hi Team, Please let me know if you have a manual E28 m535I for sale cheers

Well blow me down, the 728i is apparently faster 0-100 than the 730i.

Check out 'Mewant wheel wrap' on Ebay for your wheel type - heaps of options. I've bought two from them, first was pleather (as a tester of sorts) and was a lot thicker - this real leather one is a bit thinner and very nice indeed.

Got a link for the wraps, it looks good! Seems a lot slimmer than other wraps I've seen.

The other m3 that was for sale over lockdown with a 'questionable' history popped up on facebook for $18k a few weeks back

The time and effort you've put into your interior, @Sammo is amazing, and it looks incredible as a result! With 2 little kids I have to be pretty selective about where my time goes, so definitely having to go the easy but expensive option in most cases. I fitted the steering wheel during my lunch break at work today ? It is definitely a fun little car! Great handling and plenty of power for any of the roads I end up on. I can't think of much else that blends the performance/fun factor, with the daily drivability and enough practicality to be able to ferry the kids around when I need. I won't be selling it any time soon, that's for sure!

Apparently mine has play in it, teeth sheered maybe. Part 1 here: https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showparts?id=4142-EUR-03-1983-E28-BMW-525i&diagId=32_0395 Part: 32311153049

Fair enough, my second effort was definitely better than the first, but not perfect - luckily I went black stitching on black... Your car must be a little weapon on the back roads!
  25. 1 point
Yeah I did see those too. The thought of sitting there for a few hours doing that, then looking back on all my mistakes while I'm driving filled me with dread so I quickly looked for other options. I didn't actually shop around much though, just messaged royal steering wheels and went from there!

As per the title. Currently have pseudo-BMW mats which are thin and slide around all over the place and are irritating. North Auckland location.

Yeah the guy wanted 4.5k for them on trademe. I was like yikess.. I paid a lot less. lol I ideally want another set of ACS type 2's for my shark nose but we shall see

yea but spent a bit on repainting the whole car and wheels etc

This is how I interpreted it... Not sold as a write off from what I could see. The car had been written off 12 years ago but was sold certified/repaired and road legal. Said about leak from dipstick tube (o-ring?) and fuel guage not working, etc. Relatively minor fixes? Maintenance was not mentioned in the listing - maybe you spoke with the owner? Classified price was $23K and listing said open to offers. 2003 Black, SMG Coupe with personalised plate

It's all the same part sharing really, see https://www.bimmerworld.com/About-Us/F30-M-Sport-Brakes/ Genuinely surprised to see that the retrofit kits run a differently sized disc and pad for the same caliper though, but you can run the same larger discs and pads in the S2NH option blue calipers, as the caliper and mount is the same. I'd be shocked if there wasn't multitudes of off the shelf pads on offer if you ran the brembo caliper part number past a competent brake specialist, some proper two piece rotors and not bmw pads would be a great option instead of getting tucked for stock garbage at the stealership, but that's a thread for another day.

It’s a lounge - it’s not meant to be spanked. However saying that my 728i with some revs on piles on the speed perfectly well. I drive it to Coromandel frequently and most drivers hold it up......it carries its speed well. If it was really slow I would have quit mine years ago.

More people joining the cool kids club, pics or it didnt happen.

There are very few good ones left. I would like to horde this one! Looks good in white with style 32 wheels. Hopefully there is evidence of maintenance price is fair if there aren’t big bills needed. As mentioned earlier suspension wear is common and they really need to be kept fresh. EDC shocks are the same cost as the car.....but you can replace with bilstein. Cooling system - water pump etc wears out. check all the little things like window washers, stereo and speakers as it will annoy if broken. Trim often breaks. engine should be bullet proof if serviced. Oil leaks common. tyres are another big cost relative to the value of the car. I’m on my second - great car....bugger all investment.........had one since 2007 and I love it.

I would argue parts were less avail 12 years ago and more expensive too. You couldn't just grab Chinese steel off Aliexpress back then.

Success, turned out to be a loose hose from the booster, reattached securely and all is well ?

Got a new job and just got through the first month. Spent some well needed money on some maintenance. New cambelt and water pump, went to start it and it wouldn't start...great...rechecked everything and seemed ok. Borrowed a crank angle sensor off a mate and started first time. Must have damaged it when disconnected it. The annoying slight miss at idle has now gone which is great. Picked up a remus muffler of Facebook for cheap, it's off an e36 323 I think, which should tidy up the rear nicely. Hopefully won't need too much modification to fit, the e30 has already been converted to a single pipe back from the middle cat. Looks like it'll clean up ok Sadly the next thing will be to sort some more rust. The battery leaked while it was parked up and the battery tray and firewall has rust in it.

Over two years since I last updated this, wow... Yellowspeed coilovers have been fitted, I did buy some brand new genuine lower sill covers. Just need to get them painted and fitted. I've started a manual conversion on it just need to put the gearbox back in and bolt the driveshaft up. Fixed rocker cover gasket leak and painted the cover while it was off. And during lockdown, had enough time to get these all finished! Happy how these came out, just need some tyre valves and we are are away. Final specs are 16x9 et0 and 16x9.5 et6. Bit more aggressive than i intended but should still look alright
