One should definitely expect this of a BMW.

Believe it or not, that panel needed another few light runs of filler, some very deceptive low spots still, this curve is without a doubt taking me on a panel crash course from hell. But yeah for real, she's done. Well Im struggling to see where she's not good, so that's good enough for me. Walking a fine line to insanity getting this right. Slapped down some base coat to get some shadows showing, and she looks mint I was talking to a panel beater today and he laughed saying that what I'm dealing with is normal, happens on nearly every job Hopefully wrap up the other side on Saturday! Already put alot of work into it. But haven't applied a fine tooth comb over it like this side

You're paying for it either way, one guy includes it in his hourly rate, the other guy charges it separately. As long as they tell you about the charge before you engage them you can't complain.

Have heard if auto the cooler for it is part of the main raidiator. If correct then coolant system will need to be in good order.

There is a ton of internet chatter and hyperbole not only about the alleged increase in sale price of E30's but other brands too. On NZ's prime selling site our beloved Trade Me, we note that very few advertised cars move garage at the asking. or close to, or are withdrawn quickly, possibly indicating a sale. Most gamely soldier on with constant price reductions until vanishing, sometimes years after the initial listing. A good example of this is the AW E30 M3 Evo1 gamely listed some two years ago, and at last approaching reality at 85k ish. Very few cars offered for sale in a true auction listing sell, as most vendors are reluctant to set a sensible reserve. And now we see most listings bugged by an endless stream of mindless and idiotic questions from the itinerant armchair critics and keyboard warriors out there, everyone an eggspurt.😬 Most mint cars with excellent provenence move smartly given a willing seller / buyer scenario. There is always a home for a "proper" car with these attributes , and realistic sellers usually achieve sales. There are not enough realists using TM in the way it is designed, as an auction house, surely the only way to determine market value. Concluding, in our considered opinion the little Z3 roadster whilst being a sweet little unit is unlikely to increase in value given time, notwithstanding owning a nice one it could be fun to tootle about in. 😉

This is my 335i on Tein S Tech Springs Koni adjustable and M3 arms front and rear. The front setup uses E30 Top Hats to raise the ride height as the S Tech springs are quite low. The rear uses 10mm hard rubber spacers in the spring cavities. Suspension is firm but surprisingly its not harsh and is daily drivable, and I live where the roads are crap. The M3 control arm conversion reduces the intial understeer noticeably and all but eliminates it at medium speeds and up. Turn in is very positive and precise.

Nice to meet you today John and I'm glad the car got a clean electronic bill of health. You negotiated yourself a good deal on that one, a bit of TLC and it'll look as good as it sounds (which is fantastic). Safe travels. 👍

I think the M44 engine offers quite decent low rpm performance for it age, needs to be good running order with a working DISA valve though. The auto robs a bit of whp but its geared to counter that. For me they go well enough up to ~100kph but just don't cut it for open road passing etc. Only significant oil leaks ive ever done on a M44 have been valve cover gaskets and oil filter bushing o-rings. They hold up quite well and don't any many areas to leak from when compared to the newer stuff.

Yup, N57 motor was in service for a long time, in many different guises and models all of which have slight variations. Depending on what is wrong with the current motor you might be able to mix and match parts from other versions, but it would require lots of cross checking on ETK.

Eventuri is a nice upgrade! I couldn’t get the lower scoop in though? I wonder if the oem pipe is correct ?

Some more progress over the last few days ... dropped the front subframe and suspension while I wait for the certifier to come and check the reinforcement welding. Can't wait for water restrictions to be over so I can water blast this stuff !! Before removing the subframe I used my laser level to record positions of the steering rack (recording on the garage wall) for height and fore/aft as this is the major area of concern. Also I have locations done previously for the bottom of subframe etc. Now a milestone piece of work ... putting the engine and trans into the hole !!! The good news is that there will be no more fabrication needed than what I expected ... a new subframe for sure and then the real fun of either making a new wet sump or if I come into some money a dry sump setup !? (over capitilising I know !!) ... will just have to see whats possible / practical to get the steering rack into the right / factory location. Will investigate all options to get things to hang together at this point. Will need some customisation around the cabin air intake tray thing also as the motor sits very high. This is positioned so the bonnet can close also without some weird top fuel bulge TLDR: There is hope but its not going to be easy, or cheap. Should I have done a LS or 2J or something instead, probably

I've had lots to do with Z3's. Had a 1.9 M44 auto a while back. Was very nicely balanced for a twisty road car. Short on performance. Had to get the engine above 3,500 rpm before anything happened. Always check the plastic Y connector on the back of the block. If it looks like it is leaking (dried antifreeze) walk away from it. The connector has been the death of many M44 engines as it's unseen and when it breaks it overheats the engine. I now have a 2.L straight 6 with a manual transmission as a daily driver. Its OK at 150 HP and a lot of fun with the manual transmission. Heavier in the front than the M44B19, so a bit slower around the corners in the twisties. My other Z3 is a M54B30 3.0L auto transmission car. 231 HP in a light body makes it one beast of a car when you put your foot down. It comes down to what you want the car for. If you are into a bit of performance driving, then the 1.9 with a supercharger is the best balance. Other wise buy the biggest 6 cylinder Z3 that you can find/afford. The 2.2 is good. The 2.8 or 3.0L are better. Then if you have the money and can find one, the 3.2 Z3M is an exciting car. Finding a manual transmission Z3 in the larger engine sizes is difficult. Always take the boot carpet out on any Z3 you are looking to buy. It the spot welds holding the cross car subframe are pulling or have broken (rust circles around them), then run away for the car. This happens more with the higher horse power manual cars than the auto cars, but always look.

27 November 2020. 180622kms 1. Annual Service to keep current for MBI. Oil & Filter (Penrite HPR5 & Hengst filter) Brake fluid flush & pressure bleed Genuine BMW coolant and demineralised water (I do annual as a precaution on N62 coolant tube) Removed cabin filters, wash filter boxes; vacuum out debris; remove & clean drains. Reassembled with new cabin filter. Checked sunroof drains front and rear Replaced air filter Checked belts, hoses, underbonnet fluid levels. Lubed boot lid and bonnet hinges Replaced wiper blades Tyre pressures checked (nail removed left rear tyre). Scanned and reset service items. The craftsman's workshop, Auto 38 in Newtown! I've only done 3583kms in this car in the last year. Between Covid, lockdown etc, there hasn't been as much need or opportunity for use. It still puts a smile on my face every time I drive it. Next steps: Give it a damned good clean, clay, wax. Sort out the headlamp lens fogging - it's come back after a year Replace serpentine tensioner and pulley Replace rocker cover gaskets. They're starting to leak again, wondering if they were actually replaced when the valve stem seals were done at 166699kms in Apr 2018.🙄 One wouldn't expect these to fail in just 2.5 years. It's worth noting that oil consumption is ~0 since the valve stem seals were done.

Typical, last day for WOF re-check was today, headlight adjusters were waiting for me when I got home, half an hour before testing station closes!!

I'll charge both thanks. It costs to run my vehicle x amount per km. And it costs for my time. Otherwise I'm better off to do jobs close by / at the workshop and actually get paid for my time rather than drive around for free.

Unlikely to have the LSD. Buy on condition, body fit to me is quite important, especially the front and rear panels. Unlikely to rise in value, should be at the bottom of the bell curve and staying there. The M44 is well documented as being an oil dripper if not maintained.

Big shout out to Jacko for taking time out to look at the 130i and provide such thorough feedback. Managed to negotiate a price and have secured the car Have a list of jobs to do over Xmas, will no doubt be asking some "how to" questions on the Forum Cheers, John

You cant vote for less money to be spent on roads, and then complain when less money is spent on roads.

Its a bloody joke. From the end of the Waikato expressway (Karapiro) all the way through to Mangaweka SH1 there are multiple road works between all of the towns. Not full sections being resealed just the quick patch job all in succession. They finished one part north of Tokoroa two weeks ago and it was pot holed the day they removed the 50kmh limit. The speed restrictions are too inconsistent. Put out cones for 500m and drop the limit to 50 for nothing. Then some have loose metal or gap 20 and it is also 50kmh. People become complacent and start to ignore the speed restrictions. Cops dont appear to police it (buggered if I know why, it would be a huge cash cow). The re seal south of Taihape on the weekend was 50kmh with loose metal everywhere. I'd hate to think how many cars received chipped windscreens or paint work. Glad I didn't take a classic thru there & there were a lot heading to/from Karapiro show. Edit, my rant. BMW, VAG and Peugeot drivers who think they need their rear fog lights on.

Did Auckland - Taupo - Napier trip again last night, and now SH5 Taupo Napier Road has been afflicted with the patchwork quilt road repair disease.
