Momentum on the engine swap really stalled after our summer road trip however. We were planning on taking the prius, but due to the shocks being dangerously cooked and Toyota's OEM parts pipeline being slower than anything I'm yet to experience with BMW, we took the e30. I was harbouring some anxiety about the engine - I mentioned the low pressure light ages ago, and I've never gotten on top of it - have managed some improvement, but if the engine is warmed up, and you're idling at a long red light, that warning will pop up. 2000km later up to and all round the Bay of Islands and I needn't have worried. Was really pleased and pleasantly surpsied with how smoothly it all went. I'd honestly written the m40 off as an engine, but it was fine! The car was absolutely loaded down with luggage too. The Brynderwyn Hills Road was the one place I fancied a bit more power to get past those trucks with a bit less effort and planning, but it would have been much worse in the prius. The only problems on the whole trip was a ball joint that decided to start creaking about halfway up the island, and a fuel issue that was eventually resolved by a filter change. It was a great trip, an awesome part of the country and a bonus adventure that I felt glad to have the e30 for.

Haha, weeellllll overdue. Okydoke. I got Jon to manual convert it, with parts from Nick Weitz at Weitz Industries. There were a couple of issues with both the box and the diff that came out of the donor car, and Nick went above and beyond to replace the parts. Really made me realise how little margin must be in used parts when a vendor has to source a replacement diff (that just happens to be the highly sought after race series ratio) at his expense. It's tough out there for an honest bloke, and I can't give Nick enough credit for putting his customers first. I also got Jon to put a towbar on. Part of the use case for the e30 was that it could do things our other car couldn't, and the mark 2 prius is explicitly forbidden by the owners manual from towing. The old m40 put in a great shift over summer hauling trailerloads up to the dump. Certainly more pleasant to back a trailer in than the e39 touring was! I had been collecting parts for an m42 swap at some unspecified point. Got a good deal on a low kms engine that had had some attention to the head and then been pulled shortly afterward. I also got an ecu with ews removed, and got a harness adapter made by Greshm Performance (like this one).

Looking to sell my E28 and was after some thoughts on realistic pricing. Its a 86 525e with 176000kms, very tidy original condition inside and out, full documented dealership service history from 1991, everything works and drives like new. Seeing as these don't come up often its hard gauge were the market is, any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

The E46 conversion to RF is straight forward and well documented. https://www.e46fanatics.com/threads/diy-e46-retrofit-infrared-to-radio-frequency-remote-control.1047612/ Not sure about the E36 conversion?

Been there, done that. Does not work. Very frustrating. You need the Infra Red programming instructions. Attached. Infra-red key reprogamming instructions.pdf

This is true... but I found out, after getting mine, that you can get an even small one (no side logos) if you email them after your order and ask for a plain front (small) plate... not very helpful information for either of us now! If you order a plain rear it automatically comes with a plain front but you can't couple a logo rear plate with plain front using their website. Since I have a small (logo) front on the 1'er I can get it replaced with a plain one but after forking out the good coin I don't need to spend more on plates now. Since you have a large front I think it will be prohibitively expensive to go small and plain.

I wouldn't be too concerned unless you are about to sell - as John says, the market sets the price anyway and CVs are out of date before they are even released.

It's actually such a beautiful example. I have a 535i and if mine was in this condition i'd be asking 20 plus for it. This is gorgeous. 14 is a fair price!

I see someone has already made a smart arse comment regarding the price. The price is consistent with other original models from around the same time that haven’t been neglected. For some perspective. https://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/mitsubishi/auction-2975746831.htm https://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/ford/auction-2954405293.htm It is a bargain compared to the horrid poorly built and inefficient over priced Aussie/American sh*t of the ‘70s and ‘80s. The ones that were falling to bits and rusting before they drove out of the factory doors. https://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/holden/auction-2944815719.htm https://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/ford/auction-3013576385.htm https://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/ford/auction-3004454255.htm

Had to take the pedal box out again along with the brake booster to install the rubber firewall grommet properly for the clutch low / no pressure line. Glad to have that part of the job ticked off !! Got the engine mounts prepared and tacked up which is another milestone kinda job ... will talk with the certifier tomorrow to see if they are happy for me to fully weld them or would rather I get them done by somebody else. Next up I can remove the temporary frame from the subframe and engine so I can complete the required measurements for the new oil pan. Progress !!

Due to the lack of comparable sales here in NZ I checked out Australia and UK markets and have come up with a starting point of 14K. https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/motors/cars/bmw/listing/3013272748?bof=7z76Nta7

Replacement GM coded now, thanks to @BreakMyWindow, tailgate soft close mechanism pulled apart and adjusted, so tailgate and glass open and close as they should!! Battery secured thanks to battery bracket from pick a part, a good run up and down the motorway shows transmission is better but still showing signs of age, I don't have anything to really compare to but motor seems very healthy and pulls really well. Time to order new subframe bushes and diff seals with a view to dropping the rear subframe and refreshing it, I have a brand new driveshaft flex joint that might as well go in at the same time.

212 xxx km. I ran into a bit of a problem when I dropped the disa pin into the intake and it found it's way to cylinder 6. No compression in cylinder 6, Jon at auto38 advised that an engine swap would be his preferred option. Plug in cyl 6 off to Auto38 Old piston cyl 6 Head off old engine. Bought an engine before Christmas, organized a mate to put it in. He didn't get to it till the new year where he found 8.5L of milkshake in the sump instead of 6.5L of oil. So the vendor kindly refunded and i got one off Nick Weitz. Nick compression tested it before sending and it was algood. Came out of a running car so confidence was high. This engine was the older coil style so the manifold and valve cover from my original engine was swapped over (since CCV had just recently been repalced meant it didn't need to be pulled apart), along with the loom and headers. New parts that went in while engine was out Engine mounts Sump gasket Plastic coolant hoses under intake manifold x 2 upper and lower radiator hoses water pump (graf metal impeller) Thermostat Valve cover Gasket Oil filter housing gasket Vanos seals Spark Plugs Electric Fan from @zero upper intake boot oil filter Penrite 5W-40 rebuilt Disa Valve Car was running rough and was throwing lean codes for bank 1 and bank 2. Turns out the 02 sensors weren't plugged into their corresponding bank. Car is now running very smooth and I'm waiting for the vanos seals to break in. I replaced the seals in my old vanos unit to make it quicker to install. Also my solenoids were cosmetically in much nicer condition. New engine looks really clean. No idea of the mileage as it had been swapped into the car it came out of. Up at mt Vic watching the hill climb today. The list of things still to do: Gearbox filter and oil - have parts. Fuel filter - have parts and have replaced the vac line. Xenon - have parts but need to code LCM and there are still some wiring to do. Bilstein touring shocks and Eibach prokit springs. (these were in the post when the engine went bang) Remote key still isn't working despite changing the FTZ module Tints soundsystem/handsfree bluetooth. So been a bit of a mission, I was completely stumped by the lean codes and was pretty stressed out that the engine was toast. I'm really enjoying having it back on the road.

Yes I did the same, all I could find were KYB Excel G's. In the end I went with some Sachs OEM Sport struts from FCP Euro, I combined this with a few other parts I wanted for the 540is. Interestingly that Sachs strut was NZD $146 plus GST and freight, $216, as opposed to the cheapest price I got quoted here of $335.

Interior is about 7-8 and the same for exterior I would say. Does have an LSD Forgot to mention it had an mtech 2 kit fitted, apparently it’s from factory but I’m unsure about that. Thanks for all your help Guys

An US spec 535is (diving board bumpers) with 88k miles just sold on BAT auctions for $50k USD. Obviously, it's an exception but slowly everyone else will put their prices up which will inflate the rest.

I like your optimism , its a little richer than I would have thought. I have currently someone with ties to the classic car market doing some feeling about on prices so I will see what he comes back with.

That is gorgeous! Especially the condition you have kept it in. I think it would be fair to say that an example like this in UK would easily be fetching £15k at the dealers. In NZ - a bit less. I honestly think $16-18k in NZ would be a very fair asking price. If I were in your shoes, I would get a pro photographer to take some shots and list it for $22k.
