Shoot. Caught up on this thread. I was pre-occupied reading through the 130i thread wishing I could join that club. The fact of the matter is, you probably will find out, there really is no secret. I just chose to reach out to the OP. The value of my personal car is absolutely none of your business.

My friend's mum has a super tidy E36 318is that she will be selling soon so wondering if anyone can give a price indication please? It is a 1998 sedan in Mint Green, automatic, NZ new, only done 68,000kms, all the M bodykit, leather interior and she has owned it from new (literally one lady owner). It is very tidy inside and out. Only flaw is the paint is coming off the rim of some wheels. She's not sure of what she could get for it so we'd appreciate any perspective.

Imagine you've just paid cash money for a valuation, there may be some privacy issues. You might also have style and prefer not to brag your car's worth around a forum for every tom, Dick, and harry to see, yet are prepared to quietly share info with those 'in the club', so to speak. You might not want to invite a round of "but they're just not worth that, has the market gone made, oh more money than sense, oh I'd never pay that, oh Covid's done that to the market, oh rich fat cats" as per, oh, "the e30 market"? In case you can't imagine why you'd not blurt it out.

This alone is a damn shame. They deserve to be driven and enjoyed.

The only person with the info paid for it. If he shares it, in confidence, one would expect that confidence to be maintained. Put it this way Dave. Based on your post above, I won't be sharing any confidential information with you. Pointless? It's nunya, and you're irked as nobody's telling. If you want to know what they value up at, get yours valued, or buy one. PS: "in the club" was my reference to actually owning an e39 M5. They've got their own club too. It's an intersection on the Venn Diagram - Bimmersport is not all-enveloping.

NAP is fine - it represents how often the car is sleeping at the workshop.

I find the price pretty steep and I'm incredulous that the reserve hasn't been met.

My mistake, I took your post to mean a car not technically for sale had changed hands. If you've got any other leads along those lines, myself and two other friends are looking for mint M325i's so please do get in touch.

Exactly what does locked away mean- driven once a year or so I guess? I have two very humble excellent condition low km modern classic cars and keep them locked away. One rego on hold and the other up to date and does get driven once a month or so. It keeps her out there and lubed up, but not so much that she gets stone chips or other damage from UV etc. My old henna e30 is starting to look attractive again to me, and i see is still for sale...

mate, you're quibbling about an auto, and overlooking it's crack-free dashboard!!! 😎

It's over 20 years old, the emissions doesn't apply.

The AMG version is incredibly cool. Looks like the way of the future. Don't know what real world advantage they might have as far as performance or making your car fun to drive, ? But it would give you something to play with when stuck in traffic Cheers...

That stuff does work a treat on dull headlights. I also used it (lightly) as a test on some scuffed black plastic door jam kick panels and it worked reasonably well too.

Have to say I'm a fan of Meguiars PlastX - super fast, easy headlight restoration job. Very little work compared to the Rain-X kit and makes a real difference. In fact, I'm always looking at peoples' headlights and thinking 'give me 10 minutes and those can look great'! 🙄 Used this on the M5 and X5... I think you can apply for siv. I know of at least one that’s been brought in that way.

I'm out of the running at $40K+ 😤 was looking forward to getting some of those E30 M3 value gains over the next few years. Will have to settle for an insurance adjustment on the current E30. We took a genuine one owner sub 125K km Brilliantrot example on trade for a new 1M and sold it to the CJ dealer principle the same day for $17K in 2011. Have they doubled in price in 10 years? Yes they have. Are they worth double? Probably not. As @Olaf alluded to, there's been a few off books trades of M325i's recently, but they're hardly representative of the market, seeing as the buyers pool for those trades is exactly one. Fag packet calculations would suggest there's still 34(+) kiwi new MT2 M325i's floating around, and I bet this auction sees another couple of cars come to market - perhaps the white M325i down in Dunedin that sold in hours preempted this sale? I'd argue the white car was the better purchase however... ...Speaking of "is this where the E30 market is now?" This 325i SE/a at 19K is absolutely laughable, I mean, reserve not met ffs!!

The person who buys this will happily cruise to work in (say) $100k worth of Audi, Mercedes, BMW or whatever. But take a lower value older car on the road? Naah... Something like this is exceptional. It's not run-of-the-mill. It's price really should have no relevance to a PFL 320i, but 'market forces' will say it does. We may find out what someone with a healthy bank balance is prepared to pay for an unusual example.

yes, though that lovely Starion was a bonus (I'll add a pic shortly, need to get the few images from my camera processed). I was pretty impressed with a number of them, despite not being my general 'style'; we're all car people after all. Maybe this mob viewed grey-haired old geezers (like myself) with a pinch of suspicion or at least curiosity 😁

Both cars run best on 98 #8 ). E46 is excellent, the weak-points are well-understood. If you're prepared to put some parts, time, and effort into it to address what is undoubtedly deferred maintenance (these cars are rarely lavished with the care and understanding they need), you'll have a gem. They're a *great* drive! We're approaching 200k km on ours, owned since 112k and 9 years, love it to bits and no plans to replace it (I've asked my better half a few times in the last few years if she'd like something newer and the answer's the same, "no I like this one"). e90 - more complex, safer in crash performance, parts more expensive, good car. N52 at 2006 (I guess), great engine though you're onto electric cooling pump, etc... probably approaching bigger deferred maintenance bills? Drive em both, buy the one you prefer. Be prepared to spend a couple of grand on either to get a well-sorted car. HTH. PS: Well done avoiding the 4 cyl 320i - not BMWs finest hour, and to be avoided. And welcome to Bimmersport, @Mark Baker

This is just my 2 cents worth, Shirantha is on the money. 3-4 years ago a few of the pre-facelifts with 150k plus mileage had dropped to low 20's, and anecdotally an example with some mechanical issues sold for around $15k. A few years later with the huge surge in demand and interest with this vehicle thanks to EAG in Ohio, and numerous youtubers waxing lyrical about this car, things are vastly different. $30k would be at the lower at the end of the scale, with a solid example in fine- fettle around the $40k mark. As for astounding examples with lower k's - maybe up to double that! The market has gone gone nuts in the USA- cars with sub 100 k miles skyrocketing in pricing. This week cargurus here ( a reputable car site) had a dealer selling a 104,000 mile example in carbon black for $48,500 USD! The US market seems to have been influential in elevating prices everywhere. I'd say if you have one, hold on to it!

Destined for the garage and the occasional cars and coffee so the boring owner can get off on strangers saying "Wow it's so original".

Made the mistake of thinking the drive from Auckland to Napier would be better later on Good Friday, not Thursday. Seven hours later, finally arrived (normal drive time is five hours), even with using the live traffic info and not getting onto motorway until Bombay. Luckily I was in a decent car, with all the mod cons or it would have been much worse. The driver assist / radar cruise works really well in traffic jams, don’t have even touch the wheel below 20kmh. Tested this out quite a bit, including the 3km crawl into Tirau. When the queues finally died down there were a few opportunities to give it some beans and get past a few of the muppets that decide to get out and about at Easter. Not sure I’m looking forward to the journey back though...

Installed adjustable sway bar end links and readjusted my short shifter throw and height. Then gave it a wash and wax to celebrate, looking like a rolling mirror. Went to Supermarket, come back to my car and some prick has thrown a half empty 2 litre coke bottle next it, splashing coke on one side. See a small group of teenagers not far away sitting on one of those big clothing recycling bins drinking coke - I take the bottle up to them and asked angrily if they had dropped their bottle - it become pretty clear who was the culprit so I barked a mini lecture and flicked the bottle up at him, fortunately scoring a direct hit in the face. Got home and the coke had beaded right off, thanks CarPro Elixer - hopefully the kids learnt a little lesson too.

Personally I’m pleased for the old owners to see a car that’s obviously been looked after and driven go for a leading market price. The only think I’d tyre kick is the front rotors and put them back to BMW spec ones next cycle. A very minor thing in the scheme of things.

I reckon the Kenwood works pretty well with the ‘battle stations’ amber lighting of the e30 dashboard.
