Might want to edit the title. I was concerned for a minute haha.

Permission was not immediately granted. However I am working on it.

Think it was listed at 9k initially. Looks like it's price has been dropped to try and sell. Nothing nefarious there but given the kms and age it's got a few potentials for a big repair bill: Clutch, PCV, Vanos Solenoids, Coils, suspension and bushings, engine/gearbox mounts, Various Gaskets for oil leaks etc.

Some good suggestions, pretty much what I expected I suppose. E46 M3 - How likely am I to find one which hasn't been trashed and how small are they inside ? My E90 is probably as small as I want to go on the inside and I'd expect an e46 to be smaller being the previous generation. F10 M5 - I'd expect this to be a completely different drive to the 535D but I can't get the E38 feeling out of my head. I'm sure it's sensational and would be something I'd likely keep for a few years. I quite like the 6er's but I would assume they are more of a tourer. The Gran Coupe looks really nice. An M6 could be an alternative to the M5. Arguably less desirable than an M5 so may be cheaper. But how much of a boat are they in the twisties. They just look big. I've never really liked the Benz variants to be honest. Too flashy on the outside, too many buttons on the inside. A Maserati would be interesting but how's the maintenance ? I'm on the Kapiti Coast and don't want to be going to Wellington for everything if I can help it. The 911/996 looks fantastic, even in silver which I didn't think I would go for again. But how does the auto compare to the DCT on an E92 M3 ? Audi's ? The last I heard they were expensive to maintain, is that still the case ? It was a while ago. FPV Falcon....get in the bin. ---- I'm thinking I might go for a E60 M5 until I find the good, manual, E92 M3. The E60's seem to be at a reasonable price right now. If it needs work then I keep it for longer, if not I move it on and the way prices are going I doubt I'd lose much. How can buying an E60 M5 be sensible ?! There's also an Alpina B5, but it's been for sale for a very, very long time.

If anything, knowing how badly most kiwis look after their cars, NZ new is a liability. The only difference is you MAY get the paperwork for 200,00km of basic oil changes (if the seller didn't "lose it in a move"). It also doesn't help we tend to get real poverty spec options here, as shown by this 130i.

Oh I missed this. Have asked permission from wife to buy.

I think we must be talking at crossed purposes, I have no idea what you're referring to. I was meaning that being NZ new isn't going to make a lot of difference at the end of the day, that's all.

I raised the NZ new point because there were only so many kiwi new manual 130i's (17? Ask Jacko), so it stands to reason that they're going to follow the stratospheric rise of similar cars as they age - may as well get in early. Bimmersport members in 2040 will be shitting themselves that they didn't pick up this bargain before they were worth 64K 😂

You've got the wrong attitude when it comes to the stuff comments section. Roleplaying a former Gloriavale church member in the comments section got me through a deskjob 2009-2013.

@duluth - at that many km's, if it's not covered in oil from leaks then it's probably been serviced well. As long as it sounds and drives okay the distance travelled wouldn't concern me too much but I'd want a professional opinion on the clutch at that distance. PDC is a bonus, I'd like it on mine tbh (but it looks ugly in the bumpers), lack of Xenons would be a hard 'no' for me, you can retrofit but at great expense. If you don't drive at night then it's no concern. If it has no iDrive and Business radio then it has sh*t audio. NZ New? Meh, without a full service history that's meaningless these days. Edit: and no cover for the front tow hook, I think they're prohibitively expensive. Edit, Edit: but $7k, as long as you can afford it. why not?

Standard type car batteries (not being deep cycle design) don't like being run flat or near flat frequently. They like to be always charged to 85% full or more and that means having a decent commute (like 20km each way) or getting at least one decent run every week if not in daily use. After killing a couple of new batteries by running them dead flat with an old style high drain car alarm system, I hooked up a solar panel battery maintainer and that was enough to offset the alarm system drain. Charging a battery is always a better option than driving around aimlessly for an hour hoping that it will charge up enough to start next time. If you have a car that gets little use, I highly recommend a battery maintainer. That will keep your battery fully charged and when you do use the car it is ready to go Cheers...

Rear head rests were an option. Code 498. The rear stop light is an interesting issue - the E30 parcel tray with integrated stoplight was introduced for the 1990 model year, but cars registered in New Zealand after Jan 1990 had to have them, so you've got the '89 build date cars without the parcel tray light, like the Alpina M325i on trademe, which was an 04/89 build, but wasn't registered in NZ until 01/90, so required the dealer fit high stop light. Recent mt2 cars up for sale - CLZ241 - parcel tray light / no dealer light LIV3 - no parcel tray light / no dealer light PR6499 - parcel tray light / dealer light RM5295 - no parcel tray light / no dealer light PY7742 - no parcel tray light / dealer light PA3330 - parcel tray light / no dealer light

Swapped all clear lights for amber, and m3 mirrors for standard in an attempt to creep towards assumed originality. I'm not totally sold on the new look of lights so far. Thing is, were the upgraded items put on by Alpina? By dealer? By owner when near new? Hard to say what constitutes originality. The zender/msport rear spoiler is going- as soon as I can get it off or find a replacement red bootlid!
