On a similar note, wonder if any Insurers will give us a little token premium rebate again to reflect a presumed significant drop in claims?

Just a micro rant in the midst of more serious rantings People that read your credit card number back to you as they enter it into their machine so everyone around them can note it down for safe keeping. The real good ones also repeat back the expiry and security code !!

I think you'd have better odds of Auckland dropping to level 2 this arvo.

Hey guys, I appreciate the feedback. Took it through a WOF and a myriad of things came up, but all within my reach. The previous owner bought it with the intention of dropping a newer m42 in it, but was using it as a work vehicle until someone popped the boot and stole his tool. He swapped it for his old mans hilux and left it sitting in the drive way for 3 years until I picked it up. What has been amazing since tearing through it is the complex lack of rust on the car even though it has sat in the driveway for the past 4-5 years. There is a little surface rust, but nothing significant at all. The brakes rear brakes didn't work with the pedal, and only the right side worked with the handbrake. Ive since replaced the two rear drum cylinders and taken it all apart and put it back together again and topped up the brake fluid. This has significantly improved the brake performance. After seeing @Olaf's build when he was doing the calipers, I got some VHT caliper paint that will treat the gunky calipers and make them look all shiny and new again. This will be once I get seals and slider-boots so I can rebuild them all in one fell swoop. The power steering is leaking somewhere, I haven't figured out where from, but that is a job for after the WOF. A new (to me) 90A alternator and belt with an upgraded 14.5V regulator seemed to fix a lot of the general grumpiness from the car and kept the modern battery charged. The drivers side seat was wiggly, which got picked up in the wof. Turned out that it was the outside seat base bracket which joins to the hinge mechanism which had somehow been torn apart, so that was welded up and the seat re-foamed while it was there. The passenger side low-beam light had been part of the damaged corner, which the only damage thankfully being that a bracket (bottom right) broke off. I managed to make up a new bracket that I expoxy'd to the housing and then used a dry-wall anchor screw to attach to the original adjustment screw and it works flawlessly. Not the best, but it retains original function. The D-windows are too small for the car, resulting in the speedo being out by ~13km, which is really annoying as well as inefficient. I'm looking at replacing them with a set of 16' TSW Hockenheim R's with fairly new Hankooks on them. The car is getting a new dynomax superturbo muffler today to dampen it down while retaining some exciting noises. The car came with a full set of Bilstein B8's and Eibach springs, however as I came to realise, the front B8 struts need a 51mm housing, where the 316i only has a 46mm housing. Im open to anyone offering a workaround for this, short of trying to hunt down the unicorn that is the 51mm strut housing. The engine runs quite poorly though, which is the major thing I'm hunting right now. It idles low, so It's not a vacuum leak that I can tell, however the vacuum pipes definitely need replacing when I have the time. Im thinking of getting the injectors cleaned professionally, or ordering new injectors, but I'm not sure which is the best approach. I've check the ICV which is fully functional and replaced the spark plugs with new NGKs, and done the cursory BMW Filter and 5w40 havoline oil. On the list of things to do is -Check resistance on the TPS -Check throttle body butterfly clearance -AFM? -FPR? Im not thinking its a fuel thing simply because it runs fine when driving, and based on the reading ive done, a lot of people with the similar issue test the FPR and find that its completely fine. -Anything else? Im not quite sure

Production cars with fixed backed seats and OE parts swapped into the same production chassis of another model variant come under different rules - the LVVT rules don’t apply to it. A good illustration of this is the Porsche GT3 which come with coilovers and adjustable antiroll bars from the factory and do not require certification even though they are actually made by H&R Bilstein not Porsche. So for eg if you put e46 m3 csl seats into any e46 chassis the front fixed buckets don’t need to be certified. The CSL seats tilts and slides with the side lever and provides an access width of 35 at the top and 31cm at the narrowest area. I had the BK mounts on factory sliders on the driver seat in my Yellow M3 and those don’t give quite enough forward clearance at all points on the forward most setting - so with those sliders it should technically fail. Ironically the electric sliders actually have a wider forward range so apparently with those it should give more than the required 300mm width for clearance - questionable however if those will pass as they cannot give immediate forward clearance for rear seat passengers to get out in case they need to. The mechanism for release doesn’t have to be strictly at the side of the seat it just needs to be easily accessible for the rear seat passenger without hinderance or overreach. You’ll need to be aware however aftermarket welding to any part of the seat mechanism is not allowed for aftermarket seats. So it is questionable if you can modify the mounts for release mechanisms that way - I believe each certifier have a different interpretation of this rule. I’ll go and put the BK slider in my yellow car later and do a measure but from memory it was around 280mm clearance at some areas and deemed it insufficient.

It would depend on which tyre pressure monitoring system you had on the car - if it is the runflat monitor (which you MUST have to use run-flats so you can't just put RFT on any car) this is sensed off the ABS system in the wheel hubs, nothing in the rim itself. However if you have the optional tyre pressure monitoring system (2VB which gives the read out of pressures at each wheel) then yes you would need to swap the sensors over into the new rims - I believe these are contained in the valve assemblies so should be easy enough for any tyre shop to do. Glad you have found a reasonable solution, without too much expense.

@aramoana great to hear you bought the car and that another E30 is being rescued and brought back to life. I have your thread into the Projects section for you now it is also a build thread. Keep the updates and photos coming!

@E28E30 yeah its bizzare, i was looking for this colour a while ago to test spray on the e46 and behold the paint shop mis matched a variant of sparkling graphite a22 (which looked close enough) to the factory colour But the factory of this a22 sparkling graphite had a far more green pearl to it where this had a purple pearl to it didnt have much to blend to either because repairs were to the edge, so ended up being a borderline full respray only really got bonnet left to do, might end up doing that later if i sell it, a few minor dings in it id want out before respraying no regrets though! it's an awesome colour

That’s not how I read it - if it has a rego and it expires you’re still all good to use it, but I thought I saw a section about must still have a WoF to register (as is normal) ? Go to the online bit and try it there, should tell you one way or the other..

Finished painting a project i've been working on Picked this up before lockdown, was just going to do "a little bit of paint" But then lock down happened, so ended up you know ... sanding it right back everywhere Then the paint they mixed wasn't entirely the right hue even though it was the correct colour code (even with a fuel flap to match), so ended up basically doing a full respray anyway lol ------------------------------------

You can put a rego on hold whenever you like, but I'm not aware of any way to reclaim 'lost' rego through lack of use, or even a vehicle being written off. On hold has a minimum period of 3 months too - put the car back on the road before the 3 months is up, and rego is backdated to the last time it was live, or the start of the on hold period. I confess I took advantage of he system and renewed the rego on a Mercedes here - it has no WoF, and I'd forgotten to put the rego on hold which means I'd have been paying 4 or 5 months back rego anyway So I bought 12 months.

So true, and it's crazy how much some companies pay to avoid such exposure! Regardless, you're 100% protected if there's any suggestion your data leaked this way, the card company indemnifies you. But that does require keeping an eye on your statements and not everyone does that. The person on the other end of the call should ask you to verify the data by providing it again, not by repeating it back to you! 😂

Applying virtual power is one thing, however In Germany, there is a law about slandering ones reputation, last I checked the 30 million euro insurance covers the company and the owner. Future accusations from them may result in a lawsuit one may not be able to afford. Thanks for being fair, just and reasonable in the face of ignorance and hate. Should you ever be around these parts, some beers await. 😀 Topic Printed. Abuse of power is one thing, slander another. Even using words like that, you are just a signature away from legal, do take notes. have a great day.

He also threatened posters and their families. He also threatened a terror attack on nz through his blog. Hes been banned from so many forums for the same behaviour that I really think his supercharger pursuits are less important than how he treats others.

I remember some guy asking me in a carpark once if my 320D would “do a burnout”. I just tried not to make any sudden moves - I didn’t want to get shanked in a Westfield parking garage. He looked like he could have been the owner of this car…

Damn, fully aliexpress tuned as well. Those vents really subtle and don't jar at all with the rest of the interior, the seller is obviously a man of taste.

V6 BMWs are the best and perfect for burnouts as described 😂. Love the "timted windows" and the rainbow air vents. Must be BMW individual options...

my engineer's workshop was broken into the weekend, we lost some of our stainless componentry and electric motors, delaying me supplying some built up equipment to customers by months. whatever it is you are buying with the potential money, I hope it is worth it, mate.

None of those bits sorry, well I have the binnacle lid buts its got a dent in it. Replacing it with the tray option is better anyway, fits a cellphone well (+wireless charging option)

Have to lean towards moronic. The e36 328i @The H. Behemoth sold to a friend @LemonHunter had one particularly interesting modification carried out. That was a VTA catch can spraying oil droplets over the front suspension brakes. The engine (which had low compression) also showed signs of "quality" workmanship too.

I’m pretty sure I used a “soft” regular car polish on my last car. Worked fine.

Took the 130i for a good drive this afternoon after it had been sitting for a month. Fires up straight away with the new starter. I was quite surprised during the drive by how the engine was much more eager to rev and get up and go. Just felt really strong through the rev range. I'd swapped the intake boot to a Turner Motorsports silicone boot and cleaned the throttle body while I had it off but wasn't expecting them to make any difference performance wise. Definitely more intake noise, it sounds great so far. Only other things I can think that caused it to run better is the battery was disconnected so perhaps a reset of adaptations? and coils/plugs were removed and checked. Anyone else swapped their intake boot and noticed any performance improvements?

As a result of lock-down I finally found the time to do a decent detail and polish on my E34 540iA. I then applied three layers of wax to make the car nice and glossy. Thought this would be a good opportunity to make a post in the showroom to show it off! Car has done over 371,000km so was quite impressed with how nice the paint still looked. Need to get my replacement sunroof painted though.
