Interesting thread gents. It's an ultimate Q/car in my book. This B10 finally arrived up my drive 30/09/21, 2years until the dealer finally cut his losses & let it go, seeing sense an agreeing to a price starting with a 2... since imported 12/12/18 it's travelled '5' kms in total. Full service history, Alpina wallet, handbook etc. Stats below that might be of interest or not: ENGINE/GEARBOX The B10 V8 is based on the BMW 540i, which has a 286 bhp, 4.4 litre V8 engine. As the BMW V8 engine has Nicasil (later Alusil) coated bores, the block can’t just be over-bored, a whole new block needs to be cast for Alpina by BMW with the displacement increased to 4.6 litre. Alpina have also made other changes to the engine such as a new crankshaft, more aggressive camshafts, hand-fettled ports, lighter higher-compression Mahle pistons and reprogrammed the Motronic system. The result is 340 bhp (254kw) and 470 Nm of torque at 3800 rpm, 100 rpm lower than standard. From 1999 onwards the engine produces 347 bhp (probably more if you look at the much improved performance figures) and a torque of 480 Nm. The B10 V8 has a ZF 5-speed automatic gearbox with the steering wheel mounted Switch-Tronic system as standard. SUSPENSION/BRAKES/WHEELS The B10 V8 has twin-tube gas pressure shock absorbers at both front and rear. It also has new anti-roll bars. The brake discs are ventilated all around and have floating calipers. The Alpina alloys are 18″ with 235/40 tires at front and 265/35 at rear. Michelin tires of course. Optionally available were 19″ wheels.

Isn't this how everyone works on their cars? haha It's enjoyable making a somewhat detailed post update on each little thing, reminds me of what I've done otherwise it does become a bit of a blur. I feel bad cluttering up the server with so many large images. Hope this is ok admins?

Why would you put those wheels on, they are awful on this car, it’s whole point is understated

Flagged as porn. That is stunning... The same company that used to make that now makes iXs, at some point something has gone very wrong.

Hey mate. I went to look at this one. Almost bought it. But when I was test driving it with my partner the old guy starting talking about the woman selling its husband that passed away, the owner of the car. Said he was a convicted pedophile who had just recently died in Sydney after spending a bunch of time in jail, did they tell you that too? The mrs wasn’t having it, said she didn’t want to be in that car because off bad juju Car seemed pretty good apart from needing a paint job and the steering issue how much did you pay for it in the end?

Hey guys, just recently purchased an E53 4.6is in Estoril blue over black nappa leather with Titan shadow trim! Have been looking for something bigger to roam around in especially for trips in summer & the mountains in winter. 2nd car I’ve purchased so hopefully i’ve made the right choice but I’m loving it so far. Wanted something unique and somewhat special, after doing a bit of research it seems the 4.6is’ in Estoril blue & Imola Red are the ones to get. It’s NZ new, comes with most of the service history from previous owner as he owned it for the last 10 years. Has all the original booklets, owners manual, handbooks etc & 2 keys! Has done around 180,000km’s with 2 previous owners (so the previous owner says) Have yet to go in to get it checked up but will be doing so sometime next week along with a new WOF. From what I’ve seen in the service history most of the big jobs have been done including a full replacement of the cooling system, timing chains, gaskets etc. Nothing has been noted in regards to transmission besides the usual service but it changes gears smoothly (up & down) without any jerking. Overall body condition is decent for an almost 20 year old car. Minor spots of rust due to paint chips, few scuffs on both sides of the front bumper, headlights are a little foggy & the tailgate won’t close! It seems the spring inside the mechanism has come loose & won’t latch on so I’m constantly hit with the “bootlid open” code & the interior lights on in the boot. (Turns off after 10mins or so) will be getting it sorted ASAP cause I don’t want it to drain my battery. Will keep you all updated as I get this beast up to looking factory fresh again! Looking forward to hearing any advice from people who are in more knowledge than me (so basically everyone lol). Gonna put a to do list when I’ve figured out where the cars at mechanically! Thanks for reading, stay safe & well! - B

No Volkswagens have ever really caught my eye except for a select few such as the W8 Passat. While its not a BMW I thought this deserved a special mention due to its rarity and cool factor in the non-BMW section of Bimmersport. Anyway, I came across this MANUAL W8 Passat on Facebook MarketPlace. I've kept an eye on W8 Passats for sale for a number of years and I have never seen a manual one come to market in New Zealand. To make this one even more special, its NZ NEW! Whoever ordered it from new must have been quite the baller by going against the grain and ticking the box for a manual. Honestly it would not surprise me if there are less than 5 manual ones in the country. The W8 engine is certainly a special one with an extremely unique sound thanks to two VR4 engines mounted at an angle of 74 degrees from each other on a common crankshaft. (shoutout to Wikipedia for the info) The W8 Passat is also the only production car to date to have a W8 engine, although other production cars with the W configuration include the Veyron and Chiron with their 8.0 Quad Turbo W16 and a variant of the Continental GT with its 6.0 Bi-Turbo W12. Not sure how fun it would be to drive considering its probably quite a heavy engine and it doesn't make much power even though its 4.0L in displacement (only 274hp). Also has 4 motion which would further limit fun. But as a technical marvel, its certainly very interesting. Not sure it's worth 15K considering you can get an auto one for like 5K, plus the wheels are absolutely hideous, but I guess seeing as a Veyron is probably $1.5 million, half a Veyron engine and minus a few turbos with a manual gearbox, doesn't sound too bad... 😂 https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/190639909850553 (Photos taken from the marketplace ad)

@Sammo very classy of the seller to make some racist Uber driver comments on that first one. Second one has some potential but a shame that it’s not a ZF. To think I turned down a 14k factory manual 328i coupe a few months back that was actually tidy as I thought it was a bit pricey for what it is. The problem really is that people buy them, not the dreamers that sell them. Unfortunately with my purchase of an e30, I’ve become part of that problem 😂. Although, with the price that is being listed now (even just a few months after) for other e30s, I feel like I got a bargain 😆.

Have a look at the avin units. Better than the xtrons, and also better than the dynavin imo

Cant even advertise it right, its not a bloody V8 at all. The W8s are cool cars, but have some really gross common failures that are a sh*t to fix due to the packaging. Even doing things like changing the air filter is a nightmare due to the cramped engine bay.

Completely agree! If I bought that car the first thing I would do about 30 seconds after taking possession is jack it up and put some factory wheels back on! The stock W8 wheels are a really good looking wheel imo.

Could always offload the heavy lifting to something like Imgur, but at the end of the day after resizing, the images are very small so shouldn't be too much of an issue.

Hahaha nah it’s allgood dude. Right? Might have to hotbox the car with sage & perform some sort of ritualistic chant. Paint job/paint correction/coating might have to be one of the last things I do on the car considering how much it’ll cost up front to get done. Unless it gets to the point that it bugs me enough haha. I think initial main focus will be interior as it’s where we spend most of our time. Oh yes? Have been looking at the Dynavin N7 as it’s very similar to the OEM unit. Will definitely be getting a reverse camera set up along with it too. I like how you installed the iDrive launcher, makes it a very modern experience.

Sorry man, I thought he would have told you the same story, it seemed like it was info he was sharing with everyone as its one of the first things he said to us in the car. Convo started like this: Me : sorry to hear about the passing away of your friend. The old guy: Dont be, he was a pedophile........ Burn some sage in there or something. The price was from west auto panel beaters and painters, Ijust sent them a some pics. http://westauto.co.nz/. Also if you are interested in upgrading the media unit. I have got a brand new Xtrons Android 10'25" unit made for the E53, has everything like carplay, maps, spotify etc etc. Fits real nice in the dash. I have the same unit in my E53, I use it with i-bus app and dongle to get full on board computer functions back after taking out the factory unit, can control auto central locking, customise lights etc. I also hooked a reverse camera up to it, and installed an iDrive launcher on it so it functions like the mordern BMW interface. Pics attached. https://www.ebay.com/itm/383287588279?hash=item593db875b7:g:4JAAAOSwuVFhBXYk I have a spare becasue they made an order mix up and sent 2 units, but they didnt want to pay for the return shipping to China, so offered it to me at discount. I was just going to put it on trademe, but feel free to PM me if you're interested.

She didn’t tell me. Her current husband told me, he came with me for the test drive. The women had children with the ex, and the car was passed on to them after he died but she was selling it. Not sure why he told us, it’s not exactly a selling point haha. When I drove it the steering was pulling to left. Didn’t look into it much as I new there would be a few things to fix on it. Got a quote for 5k to repaint it. And the interior would probably be around $400 per seat to tidy up at an upholsters. The guy spent a ton of money on it, it really just needs a cosmetic tidy up. Pretty much fixed all the big common issues. Definitely worth sinking some money into it cosmetically. I offered 8k if they put a new wof on it. But it all fell apart after the mrs heard about the previous owner.

Here you go @leichtbau... https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/motors/cars/bmw/335d/listing/3281156985?bof=Ioua1f5s (OK it's not an Edition model but otherwise looks pretty well specced, chrome line window trim is 'interesting' though and it needs the raised roof rails replaced with the flush mount ones) wbaux72000a494144-bimmer.work.pdf

5w30 long life fully synthetic. If your car has done over 200k kms you could consider 5w40. I use castrol edge, but alot of people really rave about the penrite. Hengst oil filter from fcp euro. Tests have shown this is the best oil filter for our engines, although the mann filter is also very good. If you add a few to your next fcp order they work out at only around $5 each, which is waaaay cheaper than the shitty repco or supercheap ones. For coolant ONLY use bmw blue from the dealer. Mixed 50/50 with distilled water.

Definitely a pretty cool car, I like it. But 50k? Hell no.
  33. 1 point
That's pretty cool. I quite like the interior trim and style. 340hp and 470nm apparently so would give a 540i motorsport a slight beating. But for 48k you could buy a nice 540i for 40k less and spend a bit on it, so unless you wanted the exclusivity of this model the price doesn't make any sense, especially against 25-40k for a manual M5 that is much faster (and only approx 50 units in NZ)

190g/km, 7.3l/100, and the vehicle met all of the tender requirements better than the other respondents. IRD's standard depreciation is 30% per annum (diminishing value), I forget what the straight-line is. So assuming a purchase price of, oh, $120k? The book value is now $20,100 at end of march 2016, asuming (conveniently) that the asset was acquired 1 April 2011. So as with any other business, one asumes they follow the IRD rules, and of course in tendering - for government entities - the Government Rules of Sourcing. One hopes they negotiated an exceptional deal based on their buying power (a large fleet purchase), and the cachet for the Vendor. Perhaps I should get one, if they're going at $20k? If you distill the emotion, this is really a straightforward business transaction where NZ Government has selected the best tool for the job. The asset has gone through its lifecycle, and is now being disposed. No sense in sweating the asset further. Shame they can't get it right with helicopters. err, I'll get me coat then.

Discussion of politicians' vehicles is always going to be a source of humour, derision or taxpayer annoyance They are premium luxury vehicles with a short life in service that look like conspicuous consumption - just like the huge numbers of $1000 iPhones and iPad being used by public servants. There may be an interesting or surprising business case that actually makes good sense - but there's still the smell of 'bling' Peter (the other not me) is just voicing what many/most will think and I don't think his comment warrants others (inc. a mod) having a go at him. Let's keep it friendly dudes. Anyway - do wonder who ends up buying these - Ls are huge and the flagpole attachments must be tempting to use!
