To be fair, the “boring factory look” is not that boring. May be on the same boat as you Sam, I want to go for the understated modified look.

It’s all a good laff until the business owner - on top of Covid - recognizes he can’t possibly make amends, tops himself leaving a wife and child, bills to pay, and a bunch of internet pundits staring at their shoes. I’ve compressed the timeline with doctors visits, antidepressants, accountants, therapists, depression. I’m not suggesting that a dodgy wrecker is a good thing; this pack don’t have a business relationship with the wrecker. The Harmful Digital Communications Act came in (in NZ) for a reason. Surely some of you remember our PM emploring us all to Be Kind? I know some of you drank that koolaid, must’ve worn off already.

'Boring Factory Look' is definitely in vogue now - that why 15" Basketweaves are $2,500 now. I like the 'Coulda shoulda come from Factory Like this' look.

Nobody killed themselves , I suspect the wrecker spat out his XXXX when checked his google reviews in the morning though.

Yeah each to their own, there are at least two kinds of E30 lovers. I am a boring “factory” look type.

Or perhaps one struggling guy buys an engine he expects to bolt into the family car and drive his family around, but finds he spent his savings on an anchor the wrecker wont replace, and then Swings and roundabouts, the wrecker had a shitty reputation before, now he better hope customers dont find them online before purchasing. Good rule of thumb tends to be dont be a prat, karmas a bitch.

That was conveniently timed! Expect big specials around Bathurst weekend also (first weekend of December for those living under a rock).

I couldn’t be bothered risking my head again with spring compressors and took the front shocks to Lyall Bay service Center along with my new parts and they made them up for me. Was about an hours labour and totally worth it IMO, assuming you have access to another car to transport them to the shop while your car is up on stands.

Thanks @aramoana , for me its a case of replacing experience with things I am familiar with to (hopefully) get a reasonable result Started getting my purge setup sorted, another learning curve !! Not quite ready for Instagram but did the first tube weld to the flange ... by far working around the curve and establishing a rhythm is the hardest. Two tubes done now (tacked), cylinders 1 and 3. Cylinder 5 has a lot of small donut sections so will be a taste of bank 2 😕 In search of insta bling bling welds I got a monster sized pyrex cup to see how it works. Absolutely makes a difference but gas usage about triples to get there so not sure I will stick at it since it will all look the same colour in the end

I’m running the android based Andream unit in my ccc E61, mine also kept changing off aux mode to radio/tv by itself - I worked out it has a factory setting that needed changing and I needed a pin to get to the setting. From memory it was called “aux mode” or something similar and I had to set it to “manual” rather than “automatic”.

You may want to re-consider an older bmw then!

@Eagle Auto38 is shut down. He moved to Marton.

Im sure that would've been a 30-40K car a couple of years ago. Madness. I do quite like them in Topaz. At that price the least they could do is throw a ZHP knob on it. This one is minging.

Hey all, just an update for any interested parties. I emailed ZF in Australia and the told me all 6HP19 internals are the same, EXCEPT if it comes out of a 4WD(AWD). I purchased a ZF6HP19 from an E90 (N46 engine), stripped the internals and put it into my ZF6HP19 case. (E60 with M54 engine). Changed the mechatronics block and pipe seals and reassembled. It went fine, no dramas and very smooth. Happy days. Hope this helps someone.

I got a little bit more done tonight while juggling the house reno’ and baby. Installed the new valve stem oil seals, valves and springs next. Going to try and stick to this little and often approach as I recover!

Not at all uncommon (and not just with E30s). "Just needs a couple of little things..." So why not do them?

What's wrong with those wheels? Suits it bloody well imo

You know Jon is good when it’s 250k each way to get the car serviced!

The Akrapovic exhaust doesn't bother me but the air suspension and ugly ass wheels can FRO. Also M5's are meant to be driven but hard pass on one treated like that

Thanks @adro; cosmetically its not perfect but it looks good from a distance 😅. There's a chance I might be selling the E46 soon as I purchased an F11 last week for daily duties. Just need to figure out if it will become surplus or if I can justify keeping it based on use. If I do end up selling it'll be listed on here first.

Nice purchase @ctho - The E46 Touring platform with the M54B30 is fantastic. I picked mine up a few years ago at 200km and similarly addressed a lot of the big maintenance items. Off the top of my head: Full cooling system overall inc. fan clutch. Valve cover gasket. Koni adjustable shocks, control arms, bushes etc. Steering coupler. Style 350M's with PS4's (came on aftermarket wheels). Gearbox oil and filter (this made a BIG difference). Plus all the usual consumables, misc. cosmetic items etc. Sitting just under 250km now and serving me better than when I first got it.

Thanks @Michael. I think the rose tinted glasses are coming off on old 540 ownership. I need a low maintenance machine, so an E46 or newer 3 series is definitely the place I'll keep looking. Cheers.

Had a chat to a colleague today. Didn't think him much of a car guy as he drives a Rav 4 or something but was surprised to know he'd had a late model 2006 M3 in white back in 2017. Apparently paid all of $17.5k for it back then, soon after took it for a service and they'd managed to drop it off a lift ass first, wrecked beyond repair. Broke my heart hearing it. What a sh*t way to go. Crazy what it'd been worth in today's market..
