Couple years have gone by, didn't realize it was 3! Not a huge amount has changed but kids will do that. Been through a couple different sets of wheels, style 5s, acs type 1 monoblocks. Picked up a dream set of ACS type 1 racing which I'll get widened to 17x9. Currently rocking some stye 24s however Ditched the msport kit and going more with an ASC theme. Picked up some type 1 mirrors, and painted them LSB as a tester as thinking about painting the whole car.. Had a slow coolant leak which was getting worse. Top hose looked average so replaced that..nope still leaking..so I guess nows a good time to upgrade the radiator. Was holding out for a s54 z3m one but all out of stock. Ended up grabbing a cheap used mishimoto one with new hoses. I had the radiator with the expansion tank built in so thought now would be a good time to upgrade to the m3 self bleeding system. Out with the old.. This was much harder than I thought. First, radiator didn't fit as the mounts are too narrow, grabbed some from a wrecker. Mine also has two wiring connectors up by the fuse box so tucked them underneath the expansion tank bracket for now. then I had run this hose which connected to old expansion tank, to the new one. I cut it in half and grabbed a joiner from the legends at A1. Sorted. Ran up everything and checked for leaks.. Pulled it out of the garage as to not gas out the Mrs in the office.. and it'd leaking fuel. At least it's good weather to daily the convertible

I find it extremely heartening when you (I'm guessing) younger guys refer to us older guys as "gentlemen". Shows a nice bit of respect, and I really do like it. However - just to let y'all know. Not all of us old fella's (me included) are worthy of the title. In fact - happily unworthy in some cases! Apropos of nothing really, just sayin..........

As a bit of a distraction from my engine woes, did a bit of exploring around the underside of the new 330, which was good fun. Oil ahoi! Needed a decent cleanup, which I'm hoping will help pinpoint where all the oil is coming from, but by the looks of it, the answer is... EVERYWHERE. No wonder she's been marking her territory everywhere she went. At the very least, the culprits look to be the valve cover, OFHG (easy enough to do) and the oil pan (a bit more involved). Have all those gaskets spare so will see if I can occupy my mate's hoist some weekend to make the task of dropping the subframe a bit easier. Also chucked some new tyres on the rear. One side had a slow puncture that I thought I'd just get fixed but upon closer inspection I found it had collected not one but FOUR nails all sticking out from different places so didn't bother. Just went with some Laufenn's from Hyper Drive that were on the cheaper side as this is just a neat daily. Actually seem decent enough for the price. On the parts scavenger hunt, received the new piston rings for the engine rebuild as recommended by @dirtydoogle in the other thread. Went with a set with the M52TU-style 3-piece oil control rings. Should do me nicely. Compiling the shopping list is still a work in progress, for anyone that might care. Have a few parts already ticked off and a bunch of bits in there are optional that I'm still weighing up. Probably a bigger research effort than necessary, comparing FCP Euro, Rock Auto, ECS Tuning, Spareto and Schmeidmann. I'll likely waste more time compiling it all than the savings warrant but wanted to scratch my curiosity itch anyway. Might be of some use to someone on here as well...

https://www.caranddriver.com/photos/g15328317/orange-juiced-bmws-first-ev-paved-the-way-for-the-i8-amid-an-olympic-tragedy-gallery/ It featured a front charging socket!

I took a shell to the scrappys on the back of the Tech1. Moved flats a few times too with it a few years ago now. If there wasn't a huge hole in the rear apron, id remove it but do like the idea of my car not being written off so easily if i ever get rear ended.

Followed this beauty all the way to work yesterday. See the older gentleman driving it past my place on a regular basis, have to stare every time. Nice clean example and great to see it still properly used.

You will find that the list will get bigger and bigger the older you get. You should see my trunk...

145,500 kms. Finally got around to getting something up on here. In September I bought this little weapon. It's a 1998 E36 328i Coupe in Montreal Blue. Originally a Japan car, but imported and sold by Shelly BMW as an Approved Used Import in 2004. This car clearly has been cherished - it is in fantastic condition. I have been fond of the E36 for as long as I can remember. Mum bought one in Hellrot Red to replace our big and unreliable Mitsubishi Pajero when I was about 5 years old. It was a 1996 318i saloon, automatic, with the standard cloth seats. I think the only optional extras it had were power windows, fog lights, and the digital clock. We had the car about 10 years and did well over 200,000 kms in it. I recall everything falling apart on it: headliner falling down, cloth door cards falling apart, and the clear coat peeling off the front bonnet. But mechanically, it was stupidly reliable. I don't remember it causing her any major issues. My sister, mum, and I took that thing all over the country and it only let us down once (a failed water pump I think). Finally, at about 300,000 kms, it had some major engine issue which wasn't worth fixing. Anyway, that car was my first taste of the BMW world, namely the E36, and I absolutely loved it. I remember cleaning it just about every weekend because mum would let me drive it around to the back of the house where the hose was. Back to the 328i. When it came up for sale I instantly fell in love with it. The m contours looked epic and were a huge upgrade over the stock 16 inch wheels. The test drive only confirmed my love. The straight six sounded mean, especially with the golf tee mod. And the steering felt massively better than the steering box in my 540i. So, I bought it. And I love it. And best of all, it didn't have any clear coat peeling, or headliner sag, or door cards falling apart. Temporary two-car garage... It certainly wouldn't beat the 540i on a drag strip, but that isn't the point. It's a cliche, but the 328i is a far more involved driving experience. While the 540i was comfortable and muscular, the 328i is peppy and engaging.

Yeah mine's most likely shot as well. Didn't manage to dig that far into it. Unfortunately ran out of time on Sunday as I... had to attend to the pressing matter of... going to the cinema to see the... new Downton Abbey film... Shut up.

mine looked VERY similar and the culprit was the oil return line from the CCV….and the VCG and the OFHG 😝 but mainly the return line.

Not a BMW but thought it'd be worthy of this thread. 992 GT3 aka my dream car just parked right outside my place haha, absolutely stunning. Also a GR Yaris in front of it
