  1. Just went through this saga with the e30 and decided a new tank was easier. Aftermarket fuel tank sourced from https://www.schmiedmann.com/ did the trick. Arrived in just over a week. Replaced the fuel pump and filter whilst in there. It’s also recommended to clean the fuel injector screens, or replace. Car is running like clockwork again.
  2. The e85 Z4 was BMW’s first attempt at offering electric steering and runflat tires together. I’ve owned two facelift 3.0si’s and they both had vague steering and both tram lined on the original run flat setup. Good quality non runflats helped a lot, including the ride, but the steering always remained vague.
  3. I noticed a slight ride height increase in the e39 M5 with new Bilstein struts and Lemforder mounts. Wasn’t sure if it was the spring perch being different, particularly on the rear. Kinda happy it’s a bit higher, saves me ruining the front undertray on the driveway.
  4. Is it a genuine BMW screen that was installed? Whilst not HUD related, the local dealer installed the wrong genuine windscreen on my e39. They ordered one without the pre-installed sensor for auto headlights. There could be part number differences between an HUD screen and non HUD screen. I figure the screen will break again soon so no point changing it.
  5. I must have got lucky with my 07 335i. I certainly wouldn’t call it any more unreliable than the other BMW’s I’ve owned. In fact it only ever had the bonnet up for regular oil changes and servicing in my 50k of driving and another 15k when I on-sold to a family member. I still get to drive it from time to time and still can’t understand why I sold it. The other car I had the N52 motor in was however an oil leaking mess of a thing, plus coolant leaks, vanos solenoid failures, starter motor, water pump, transmission pan gasket and it had half the mileage.

    Put me second in line!

    2006 MINI JCW GP1

The 997 is the Goldilocks of the modern 911’s and is such an epic car to drive especially in rear wheel drive. I found using it daily so easy to live with. Loving it in red. The 991 became that bit bigger and styling a little bloated.
  8. I disagree. My comment was a reflection of the experience at my local dealership which isn’t listed in your post. There is context, I’ve had exemplary service from the local dealer when it comes to their vehicle sales and parts teams. Their parts team in particular are outstanding to deal with. The service I’ve received from the local service department has been nothing but average and arrogant. Damage caused, failing to complete service updates, refusing to acknowledge faults. It’s a shame because the rest of the dealership works hard to ensure customers are looked after often going to extra lengths. There are great independents around Wellington who are enthusiastic about the work they do and their customers.
  9. You’d be giving the local BMW dealer credit thinking they could pair a key. I doubt they could program a reset of the service lights.

    328 CI

Definitely recommend FCP for suspension components. Their customer service is outstanding and freight times are pretty good at present. E39 feels like new after a refresh.
  11. Owned an n54 (e92) for 5 years/50km (still in the family and running perfectly). Not one fault in my ownership. Was my daily and I absolutely loved it. I’ve also had a couple of BMW’s with the N52 3.0i motor. N52 is okay, but I got bored quickly and I definitely can’t get over the looks of the hatch. I tried both platforms when I was looking (135i and 335i) and felt the 335i was a little nicer to ride in. Both are great performers though. There’s lots you can read about online in terms of what goes wrong, but heaps of knowledge on how to remediate.
  12. Spotted this lovely Carrera at Coffee and Cars on the weekend. Tow bar rated for a bike rack. Makes even more sense if you have the roof down and need somewhere for your bike.

    Black Car Care

Put a layer of the Turtle Wax Ceramic Black on the daily. Definitely made a big difference when I used the polishing machine on the bonnet. Early days, but I’d recommend on a black car. Would not recommend a black car as a daily 😒 Tempted to do another coat and apply a ceramic coat over it to help it last.
  14. Pre-facelift or facelift, either way you look at it, it’s still an M5. Stunning example
  15. Prays he’s getting his actual wheels refurbished and only has one car to use with these as loners 😂
  16. The e39 M5’s seem to do big mileage overseas and remain reasonable in terms of reliability. Definitely one of the more robust M cars. Keep a set of rear sway bar brackets handy. They seem to snap regularly 😂
  17. I wouldn’t complain 😀
  18. I use Castrol 10w60 supercar in the M5. Buy it from Supercheap when on sale. Don’t buy directly from the dealer, they charge an arm and leg for the same product.
  19. If it’s anything like the e39 or e92, it could be the door vapor barrier. To check, pull the door card off and check to see the seal is still bonded all the way around. There will be plenty of detail online on how to remove the door card and how to replace the vapor barrier.
  20. Maybe she’s screening members cars?

    E36 M3

Absolutely stunning interior colour. Much nicer than white or cream.
  22. You’d hope the e46 was an improvement on the previous generation. The e46 is considered by most the sweet spot of 3 series and they’re great value. That being said, driving both an e46 (330ci) and e30 (325i) back to back recently, the e30 is just👌... It probably is sentimental and I quite like that it’s not particularly fast by today’s standards however BMW and financial sense. Not sure those two things go together.
  23. I’ve always found those Audi’s underwhelming in the flesh. Looking forward to this design though..
