  1. Hey guys. I have recently purchased an ex Japan BMW 318i E46. It comes with the infrared remote (as do all ex Japan) which has to be pointed at the 'Clown Nose' (red knob on the rear view mirror). The 'Clown Nose' also has a red LED that can blink when a factory alarm is installed (which all ex Japan BMWs do not have because the Japs do not break into cars). Is there any way in making this LED blink without the factory alarm being installed??? I have read some information about doing this on bimmerfest.com, they are able to do it via the OBC, but when I spoke to my dealer and BMW New Zealand, they said that they have never done this?!
  2. Thanks for your help guys! It just fixed itself?!?! Good enough for me!
  3. Well to be honest. Everyone out there better be careful. Number plate recognition is coming to all New Zealand Police cars very shortly. The computers in the cars (already been trialled in Auckland) will be connected to devices which can read registration numbers by just driving past vehicles. The computer will automatically query vehicle registrations and check for Licence Expiry’s, WOF or if the vehicles driving past are in any way of interest to Police. Also, out of concern for public safty, don't be stupid. Just get a warrant of fitness.
  4. Ok. I will start off with a little bit of history about my 1991 525i E34. Vehcile was frequently serviced by its first New Zealand owner. Nothing went wrong with the car when the previous owner had it. I purchased the car at 148,000k's in August 2008. Since I have owned the car, I have had to replace the following: Water pump Thermostat Break light switch Radiator Alternator Automatic Transmission (Jatco) Idler Battery Radiator hose I am now getting a ticking noise from my M50B25 engine!! Sounds like a diesel vehicle while idling! It seems to dis-appear once the vehicle is up to about 2500rpm. Any suggestions?? I'm sick of paying for things to be fixed and being ripped off as I am not a car person.
