  1. Hey beautiful people of bimmersport, I've been reading and lurking here for years but thought i'd finally say hi. Recently owned a basic as hell 530i e60 and just upgraded to a 2015 435i gran coupe. What's the best spot to take pictures of the car in Auckland?
  2. definitely good purchase. as for the m adaptive suspension, an option you can look at is the bilstein b8 damptronic shocks they are plug and play and will just outright work with bmw's factory connectors and sensors
  3. ahh i see. so i do not have to change the clips then? note that i have a standard non m bumper. cheers!
  4. Hey guys, I've looked everywhere but couldn't seem to find one and the cost for a new one is just.. atrocious. if anyone has one please shoot me a pm! also, will pre facelift ones fit? I've read somewhere that they do fit, just need to change the bumper clips.
  5. hi guys, just wanted a peace of mind. i've been looking everywhere regarding this and some say 75w-140 is ok. but some say it's not and recommends 75w-90. i took my car in to bmworkshop and they put in castrol syntrax lsd 75w-140 in it, but burger in the north shore recommends 75w-90 question is, is there any negative effects with 140 weight oil in the diff? i did feel like the 140 weight oil feels a little bit.. bogged down compared to my old fluid which has probably turned into mush now (car has 145000ks, diff fluid never been done). it could just be my inaccurate ass dyno but idk p:s, it's already done and dusted with 75w-140 in my diff. just looking for a definite answer so i can finally go to bed in peace haha
  6. hi, we don't have a smoke machine so may need to get one, or borrow one. will check vacuum lines again over the weekends and report back. cheers!
  7. Hey guys, it's a long story but basically from what I've been told and what I've seen on my friend's car.. -car wasn't starting at all initially, and me and my friend narrowed it down to the cam position sensors. along the way, we replaced all 6 spark plugs, the battery, and 2 ignition coils as the car was misfiring. -replaced the CPS, car starts and drives fine. -after a day or two, the car threw a CEL and the car still drove fine, but on cold starts, the rpm surges between 700~1.2k. its not a gradual fluctuation but sharp surges and the whole car was shaking when it does that. -scanned vehicle, MAF sensor fault code. -This was done without me, my friend tested the voltages and resistances on the maf sensor, and traced the wiring back to the dme, no faults in the wiring but there were fluctuating readings on the maf sensor. he then decided to replace the maf sensor. He then cleared the codes, and the CEL still came back on. -I looked at it again, and I reset the DME adaptations. CEL never came back on. But now, the car hesitates to accelerate. The first two days felt as if the car was relearning, so I let it be. Then on the 3rd day, my friend said that on the m/way, the car refused to rev past 3k and it felt like it was in limp mode, but there was no CEL -Scanned it again, and now it shows mixture control faults. We pulled the coil packs and ignition loom out and tested the resistances, all good. Specs and tolerances were sourced from a "somewhat trusted russian site" as newtis has been ordered by BMW AG to be closed down. -Checked spark plug compartments, clean. Checked spark plugs for fouling, good. -Put everything back together, and today after work, we started the car and it immediately shut off on us 4 times. Started the car for the 5th time, this time giving it revs , and car stays alive but the CEL came back on. MAF sensor fault again. And this time, everytime we stepped on the brake pedal while vehicle is in P, the rpm surges really hard. When we put it into gear, the gearbox "crashes" into gear, literally. It made a massive thud sound and the whole car jerked forward a little but after putting it in gear, the idle stays at 800rpm and the needle moves up and down a little between 750~850 rpm. That's pretty much it as of now. We're pretty stumped. Hopefully someone here can shed some light on this matter. We plan to look at the fuel pump, o2 sensor, and the vacuum lines over the weekends. Cheers and apologies for the wall of text!
  8. Hey, does anyone know if its possible to retrofit a m5 seat into a base e60? Ive got a base lci model 530i with the seats without heating or lumbar adjustments. Im planning to fit m5 seats and just wanted to know what to look out for. Afaik, getting the active bolsters to work is impossible but as long as it doesnt throw funny codes i can live with it. Same goes for heating. Just looking to have the bolsters work. Edit: by bolsters, i mean bolsters power adjustment
  9. hey guys, not sure if this is the correct subtopic i thought about asking here if anyone could help me out. i replaced my battery just recently and managed to register it with my work scanner but i couldnt code it to the correct capacity. im wondering if anyone is willing to help me out? i don't feel like paying bmw 150 bucks to do it haha.. the code i have on my car is set to 80ah currently and i installed a 95ah battery. i'm worried that the undercharge would hurt the electricals overtime .. cheers!
  10. hey guys, it just happened to me today. first time ever since i bought the car few months ago. i started the car warm in a parking lot, was playing with my phone while it idles then suddenly the rpm jolts and drops, then the car just dies and the check engine light stayed on. took me by surprise for a bit but then it started up fine and drove normally. no faults or lights, it just drove smooth and fine. any idea what happened? been reading around the internet and some people say it needs a software update, some pointing to fuel type. i've always been running gull's force 10 if that helps. i had my mate check the info on my vehicle, and the programming level is still factory since the date of manufacture.

    slow cranking

ahhh i see. Will try that out! Theres also a possibility that my battery is already old. I've checked my earth straps and they look to be in fairly okay condition.

    slow cranking

i've already scanned my car with a scanner, no error codes or anything. probably going to try directly earthing the engine with a jumper and see if it solves the slow crank issue. if not, then it's probably the starter going bad soon
  15. will do. churrs for the replies guys

hey guys, my e60 does exactly what is shown in this video the author of the video points it to corroded grounding cables for the engine, but some say its the starter. can anyone point me in the right direction? thanks!
  19. hey guys, i know this question has probably been asked but my searching around only brought up threads of about 4~6 years old so things might've changed since then. so im going to ask it again. does anyone know any good reliable shops around auckland that's affordable? im not looking to cheap out, but i do know most shops charge an exorbitant rate for the simplest of repairs..
  20. should've gotten the mechanical insurance haha
  21. thanks for the warm welcome guys! getting the babe to do preventive maintenance next week. its gonna be a blast
  22. hey guys, just reporting in! bought my car really cheap and it comes with a slightly leaky rocker cover gasket. will have the car jacked up in some time to check in the oil pan is leaky or not. i know this is too early, but can any kind members here help me diy it? i'll buy you coffee and food! XD i can certainly do it myself but i don't have the tools to do it nor the space in the garage :c anywayy, reporting in!
  23. hi guys, i looked around and searched around pretty much everywhere but i couldnt find a definite answer. i have the base audio system in my e60, and i want to install the focal ifbmw-s replacement speakers but i dont know if they fit or require adapters. called up rapid radio, they said they will make it work for me for 900 bucks+ but i think thats a tad bit expensive. rang up hyperdrive, they charge much less labor but the guys there said the focals wont fit the e60 and they recommended me the rockford fosgate bmw3 t3 kit instead. anyone installed focals in their cars could shed the light on this matter? thanks!
