  1. Hi guys, Please help me to diagnose the problem with my E46 330CI M54 Auto, 160k The car started vibrating very strong when in idle. The vibrations have low frequency and go throughout the car you can feel it with your bum and feet and hands and it is everywhere on the steering wheel, on the seats etc - the whole thing shakes like there is no tomorrow..... Very annoying and very loud with windows up. The vibrations seem to be stronger stationary when in D or R and the right foot is on the break (engine loaded with transmission). RPMs stay constant - no jumping around at all. When pulling into a stop the RPMs dip to 500 - 550 and then stay at 550 or 600 or 650 kinda hard to tell, but that range there. As soon as some accelerator applied and RPMs go up to about 800 - smooth as silk, no vibrations, pulling nicely, power seems to still be there, gear changes are smooth as well... So far have tried: Scanning the car - a few error codes, mostly interior lights, seat occupancy (caused by the GROM audio box). In DME there were 2: 1 - oil level sensor (it is broken) 2 - MAF readings were a bit low, they were at 0.65 volts and the range is 0.6-1.5. And in transmission there was 1 - something about a solenoid stuck open... Clearing the errors and driving for 5 minutes - neither MAF error nor Transmission came back. also... Replaced air filter - no difference to vibrations Unplugging MAF sensor to force the ECU to load the default values for air/fuel mixture - no difference to vibrations Cleaning ICV (it was pretty dirty) - made no difference, in fact the strong vibrations began about a week after ICV cleaning. So i am not sure where to go from here..... Google says it might be engine / gearbox mounts, but how do you check them to be sure it's them? From what i can see the engine mounts look ok... Any help will be appreciated.

  3. I have the similar issue with E46, but mine is much worse, i sometimes hear this continuous metallic rattle when going on bumpy road or on the road that has a slope to the right. The rattling disappears when i press on the brakes a little. Pinned it down to a loose rear right inner break pad.... Have no idea why it is not secured in place properly... The anti rattle clip seems to be in place... Brakes work well... So try applying brakes when you hear the rattle / clanking.
  4. Hi guys, Tried searching through the forums but didnt find anything. My E46 '01 330CI has developed a flat spot in the steering rack. Handles horribly. All the other suspension parts seem to be fine. I'm thinking of getting a used one and reconditioning it before replacing it, or reconditioning existing one.
  5. Hi Apex, thanks for that, Do you use a brush or something like that or just drain it in petrol, let it drip off and apply oil? How much oil do you apply? Thanks.
  6. Hi guys, Was just wondering if anyone has any tips on how to clean a K&N air filter? I got my E46 with it already installed into the original air box, but have heard that the cleaning kits that you get for those filters can damage Mass Airflow Sensor? Any suggestions? Thanks.
  7. Hi guys, I was just wondering if anybody esle had these error codes on an E46 and how were they fixed? About a week ago got the following codes which i pulled from EDIABAS: 227 Lambda Control Tolerance Bank 1 too big 228 Lambda Control Tolerance Bank 2 too big Noticed the car is idling a little bit rough when it is in gear and not moving (foot on a break). Also noticed that the car is running a bit better when it is not warmed up - is a bit more responsive. Thanks in advance
