  8. Time to move this along as I don't have the need for two cars. It has been in my family since import circa 2001. 171,XXX km. SOLD. Located in Auckland. The good: 5 Speed Manual - with Z3M shifter and ZHP knob. Full service 1,000km ago (170,000km). B&G Springs with Bilstein shocks - installed circa 160,000km. Style 68 staggered wheels on Bridgestone Potenza RE002/RE003 - approx. 5-7mm tread. Sony iPod stereo with Alpine Type S 6x9's in rear parcel tray - 6x9 adapters used so looks 100% OEM under standard BMW speaker covers. Current WOF/Rego. The not so good: Cloth door linings sagging. Bumper cracked on RHS corner at the bottom. The exterior of the car reflects that it is 22 years old i.e. not perfect. Best that you inspect to get a proper idea of the condition. PM for more details/pictures.
  9. With a title like that you know this is just going to be a shambles. Me and a few of my mates, just looking for a cheap E36 6 cyl which i have got the manual bits for to run in some hill climbs, track days etc. Always wanted to get stuck into events and this is the best way considering i have a manual box laying around. No looking to be competitive at all. Needs to have live plates, WOF issues we can deal with unless its chronic rust. Idea is to drive to and from events Closer to Auckland the better but can travel. Thanks!

  13. Hello. So I believe my viscous fan clutch has finally given out, and my fan is forever spinnin, more revs, faster/louder the spinning gets. I can't tell if i'm driving an e36 or flying a 747. I have done some research and i've been told its best to delete fan (the free fix). But how long till not having a fan causes a problem? I daily drive my 323i coupe, and sit in traffic occasionally (i try my best to duck driving during traffic times). So I need a new fan clutch. Would anyone (preferrably Auckland) have one for sale? Otherwise, does anyone have an electric fan kit for sale? I know i can order one off the internet but this is my only form of transport and I'd rather not wait on shipping. Currently I'm not driving her as I'd rather not have the fan grenade and make holes everywhere. Any help/advice would be appreciated, thanks in advance!
  14. This is my cosmic black 1998 318is M44B19 (sedan south african import), I'm planning to cover all four corners with new shocks and springs this summer as my first modification on the car and need some suggestions with what brands I should go with. My future plans for the car is to improve it's performance gradually overtime without swapping the engine to a 6pot (i understand it would be cheaper hp for dollar to swap but I like how light the 4pot is and want to keep it original) , ultimately I would like to be able to build up to something like a dasc supercharger even though they are quite rare nowadays anyways feel free to suggest modifications that would benefit the car in anyway possible as i'm open to all suggestions!
  15. Hey Guys As i sit here trying to sum up the motivation to go and do some work work on this i though it was about time to start a thread on the 328i. A bit of background on the car, when i was 20 i sold my 318IS manual as i started to want something with a bit more oomph, i still liked the E36 and couldn't quite afford an E39 540. so I decided that a 328I would be the ideal car for me. i was keen on a manual but couldn't find a tidy one within my budget after a few months of looking. i did find a nz new 4 door auto with decent spec, full leather ect for a decent price and in really good nick so i picked it up. Since then i have done quite a bit of the usual maintenance improving on it where i could. The suspension has just about been completely rebuilt with solid rubber bushings, the standard springs, sway bars and shocks have been replaced with factory M-Sport springs and sway bars and Koni Adjusatble shocks. The brakes now sport Brembo blank rotors and EBC red pads. Crank and Cam position sensors have been replaced with genuine new ones. The plugs have just been replaced with the OEM Bosch ones. On the inside i have re-coloured the parcel tray back to black from the purple they all trend to, swapped out the interior lights for LEDs and found an M3 Evo steering wheel for it. The hood linging is falling off more and more by the day now, so will soon be pulled out and re-covered although i am un-decided on something close to the current grey, or to go dark like the M-sport cars. i would love a set of vaders for the front seats too but have not yet found any one willing to part with a set! Now the big one! MANUAL! This weekends mission is the manual conversion. i have been sitting on a ZF box for almost a year and have finaly decided its time to do the swap. at this moment the car is up on axel stands with the interior pulled out and the exhaust and drive shaft spread over the garage! with any luck ill be driving it to work as a manual on monday! but realistically i think ill be done mid next week. once the manual conversion is all done and dusted i have a custom 4 plate LSD center to fit to the current diff. i will likely replace all the diff bearings while i'm at it. ill get some photos of the car once its back on the road, and if there is any thing you want to see while its in pieces ill do my best to get a photo for you!
  16. Hi all, About a 9 months ago I bought a manual '96 e36 323i sunroof sedan in Arctis Grey, and no the sunroof doesn't work properly. Purchased 17x8 and 17x9 staggered style 32 wheels which rubbed quite hard on the rears so I rolled the guards. Spent some time at pick a part - found a couple of good scores like an m50 manifold for about $60 I bought and installed Yellowspeed Adjustable suspension because the wheel gap on the front hurt my eyes The extra stiffness was enough to pop out one of my grills, which was moderately upsetting Replaced them with some black grills, I'm unsure if I'm going to go back to OEM chrome surrounds as I'm generally a purist when it comes to Aesthetic mods so we'll see how much they niggle my conscience. This is the overall look of the car now, fairly happy with it. A couple of months ago I bought a manual '92 e36 325is coupe as a donor and have since stripped out the diff, box, block and other goodies. I am in the process of building this engine for a single vanos +T setup to transplant into the 323i. Here are some flicks of the goings on so far! More to come . . .
  17. Set of four 185/60R15 tires in excellent condition. Sidewalls in great shape, even wear across the surface of the tire, heaps of tread, etc. Two Goodyear tires with about 6-7mm of tread, two Yokohama tires with 5+ mm of tread (my depth gauge went AWOL, those should be pretty accurate numbers though). Came from an E30, only seperated as someone wanted to buy the Hartge wheels seperately $195

  19. I hope electrical system is the correct place to post this. Or is this more a drivetrain issue? I just bought an e36 1997 323i auto. The gearbox has Sport, Eco and Manual (snow) modes. The five speed auto will clutch up in 5th when doing over 80km/h. I'd like to get it to clutch up in other gears at lower speeds. Is this theoretically possible? Does a physical limitation prevent the clutch from engaging in any other gear than 5th? Is it wise to do so? (I do not want speculation, I want facts) What happens if the clutch is engaged and the gearbox wants to shift gears? Will it just hold the gear longer, or will it blow a valve/seal? If it is possible, how would this be done? I'm hoping there is a plug under the dash that I can hotwire two of the pins to a switch that will force the gearbox to engage the clutch. At first I thought I'd use the switch in manual mode only, but when you drop under certain speeds the box seems to drop a gear even in manual mode. Not sure if this is a safe option anymore. First gear is also inaccessible in manual mode. I'd love to be able to reprogram the gearbox to clutch up in all gears effectively making it that little bit closer to an automated manual. But I assume this is impossible. PS: If it requires dropping the gearbox out to get to something then I'm only interested in the theoretical. I only plan on keeping the car for a year or so, and that just sounds like too much work. Backstory: My previous car was a manual. I love the direct feeling a clutch gives you. This gearbox is a bit more of a slushbox than I'd like. My wife has agreed to learn to drive a manual but only if I teach her how to drive an auto first. I don't have the room (or money) for two cars at the moment. I figure that in one to two years she will be confident enough to learn to clutch and I won't have this first world problem anymore. Thanks
  20. Ok! i had a thread up a while ago in the general forum about re-shelling vs restoring an M3, and well the consensus was restore so here it is; introducing brutus, my 1994 NZ new e36 m3 coupe. he is a dark individual, black on black to be exact. a few photos will follow but first the story of brutus.... i picked up the above car in pretty average condition thinking i was getting the deal of the century, all things considered now its probably going to cost me just as much as buying an m3 i good nick to start with by the time i get this one to the level of tidiness i intend. there were a few things i didn't see when looking at it first time round, lust must have taken over! but hey at 23 i was the owner of an M3! bucket list item achieved! 1st order of business - out with the black oil, in with 6l for 300km for a flush, then the full castrol edge - TWS 10-60 treatment, 3000 ks later its still amber! i also treated decidedly scungy intake filter to a K&N panel filter in the stock box and 6 new OEM spark plugs. when i first got it the head lining resembles a curtain more than the roof of a car, so first duty was to whip the head lining out. boom done, fabric and rotting foam striped off. i wanted the A and c pillars to match so out they came and got the same treatment. there was a wee pause in progress here in terms of the roof lining and the next problem reared its head. Enter the sunroof, well exit the sunroof... there was a knocking noise coming from the sunroof when the car un-weighted, and it was not tilting properly, the shuttle was not behaving 100% either but the roof portion was O.K. . until it too stuck in the open position on a drizzly day. great... out came the sunroof casset. picked up on a few broken clips in here so ordered a few from the us of a. jimmied the roof into the close position and re-installed it waiting for the bits to arrive. goodies in the mail! back in biz! or not... turns out one more clip was broken having removed the roof again causing the shuttle not to function. i have tilt now though! another order for the last clip and a tarp over the car. a few more goodies made it over with this order, a new rattle clip for the front right brake caliper that had been driving me nuts and a set of brass caliper bushings to replace the shot flexi and cracked stock ones. time to have the roof lining re-done, well thought having a matching parcel shelf would look better than the faded one in there, so out it came. there was absolutely nothing wrong with the adhesive on the parcel shelf! i must have removed about 3 layers of knuckle skin stripping the fabric off this one! Onehunga marine and auto upholstery did re-cover of these bits in an Audi RS4 esq material. black textured, and once re-installed looks really good. the finish of the job around the edges was not perfect which i was not too happy about originally, but is 100% now the head lining has been installed. next embarasing issue. the drivers door had been increasingly hard to open, until it would no longer open from the outside. slighly less than dignified effort to get into the car in westfeild carpark ended up with a passenger side entry... que replacing the drivers door handle mechanism. brand new rubbers and surrounds for both doors handles here! now the bit that had been really aggravating me. body work.... new guards, drivers door, nose cone, belly pan/under tray, wheel arch liners and radiator shrouding later the front was looking a little more like and m3 and a little less like a prats yard special! although i could not sort the light alignment out for a free beer... disassembly found 1 of the lenses not installed correctly, reassemble and we have aligned lights! PHEW. - i am still after an m3 oil cooler duct though... a few cosmetic bits here and there, LED parking lights, LED interior light conversion, ZHP shift knob and (pick-a-part score of the month) some blau-punked 6*9 including adaptors for the parcel shelf and an M-spec 3 steering wheel (this one currently residing in my 328I though) pretty much brings it up to date! And because every one loves pictures;
  21. Selling my E36 323i, continues to be very reliable and dependable, but have too many cars, need to sell before I can buy something else like an E30 maybe. TradeMe link: http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=911135211 Will consider offers. Maybe also trade for a facelift E30 coupe (4 cyl).
  22. Do you need em ? how is running without them going to affect things ? would the car have needed a re-flash to run without them? it seems to have been running ok, and pulls as hard as other 3.0s i have driven crawling around under the car today starting replacing the guibo and i noticed a couple plugs on the g'box x-member with no wires coming from them. looked further down the line and the wires coming from the oxy sensors have been clipped and ziptied out of the way.
