  1. http://www.trademe.co.nz/a.aspx?id=1362350183 98kms NZ GPS Band expander????? Really? Hmmm - doh. Hopefully re-coded Aux port Has PassPort Max wired in but costs extra to leave it in .... Airbag sensor error and downshift paddle not working.
  2. http://www.trademe.co.nz/a.aspx?id=1358361377 102kms $23900 ONO! Think I might have posted about this one before :| I think if you like the white leather (I do) and can keep it clean then this is a good proposition. Very tidy and well maintained by the looks of things. Has both timber and aluminium trim. "It's had a gearbox/clutch done and brakes/discs at 98000kms. I've serviced / replaced other things such as fuel filter / air filters / idle actuators, carbon fuel canister's, secondary air pump. Also has x4 new tyres."
  3. My 550i has for a few months now been throwing active steering failed messages. When you go on these forums there is a lot written about these sorts of issues especially it would appear for the E60 and E61. I can't believe some of the suggested fixes and it has been a surprise that having posted dozens of cries for help someone did not follow up with what the root cause was and more important what the fix was. I am sure there is more than one issue and more than one fix but surely in this day and age we can do better. So not wanting to be like the rest I thought I would share my story and confirm so far my successful end outcome be it that it may still be too early to get overly excited about the fix. I won't bore you with a novel only point out the behaviour I experienced - It started after driving back from Taupo, the next day when driving to work. It self cleared within a KM down the road after I stopped and restarted the car. -It next appeared again after another longer drive home the next day when starting the car. Again reset a KM down the road following the same procedure. Around two months had passed since the first time this occurred and took me to around end March this year - Third appeared with a few weeks and this time I hadn't been driving any distances out of the ordinary. From this point forward I was getting the fault at least once a week. At this time I started to investigate on the WWW forums what this was about. -Basically over time the fault was becoming more regular but still corrected itself after driving stopping and restarting. I tried some of the myths on sties such as put the key in the car but don't start up. Turn the wheel all the way to the left, then to the right and then back to the centre. Start and drive forward. Turn off and wait a minute. Start up and the issue will be sorted. Some suggested the same procedure but wait up to 30 minutes. Some suggested doing the same but with the engine running. I tried them all and nothing worked. -When my car developed a new spin on the fault where I put the key in to start the car and saw my steering wheel start to turn itself to the left. I starte the car and got the same fault message but now the steering wheel was offset to go straight. At this point I suspected the root issue was my angle sensor. When it reset it self I notices a shuddering in the steering wheel as it re-centred itself while I was driving. At this point I sort help -Taking it to the local mechanic who has always been good at fixing any concerns I have had with other cars got the faults off the car being 6137 - Motor Position Sensor Failure. Then 614A - Motor Position angle not inialized and then OEA3 which I can't recall what it said but basically more of the same. My mechanic recommended replacing the Angle sensors. A cost of $1500. At this point I realised that I need an BMW authorised expert to give me there opion as I know a witch hunt when I see one. - I took my car in Wellington based on a mates advise who also happens to be member of this community to First European Cars. They took the codes and got different error codes and descriptions than my mechanic and it seems to be down to using actual BMW devices vs OBDII devices which are not necessarily giving us the best data. This lead the them to recall another customer who had the same issues and symptoms and the fix was a wheel re-alignment. That customer had recalled hitting a large pot hole and when the alignment was checked found the wheels off by more than .30 each side. When reset and the active steering reset/calibrated the issue was resolved. I cant recall hitting anything that would make my while alignment go out but it was worth a try. And what do you know. My alignment was out on the left by -0.28 and the right by -0.36. This procedure was then performed on my car and since yesterday I have not so far touch wood had the fault appear. So I will drive around for a week and let you know if this was truly the cause and fix to my issue. Got to say it is better to spend $80 for an alignment than $2000 for a replace of parts that may not be broken? It I have saved that money then I may just see what performance improvements I can make. Activating the true sports mode in my 550i will be the first act.
  4. http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/bmw/auction-1336121199.htm Interesting, really. ex japan, imported 2011 with 80k kms on the clock. it's an ///Msport (P337 M Sport package, S481 Sports Seats, 704 M sports suspension, S710 M Leather wheel, S715 M aero, S775 Anthracite headlining)... but are those 19" X5 rims? Anyway, it's cheap, if the shillers don't spruik and over-boost the price. 175k kms, 2005, currently under $5k.
  5. Saw this tidy e60 550i on TradeMe, it has almost all the desireable fruit you'd want (specifically Dynamic Drive, Active Steering, HUD, Rear Blind, Adaptive Headlights, bluetooth, cruise control), and is the LCI model, 120k kms. Oh, and looks like the Logic 7 stereo too, and NZ maps. Style 246 18" rims - cool. http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/bmw/auction-1315400256.htm under $15k. Tasty. the only thing it's lacking is a different shade on the monochrome/greyscale range of white to black to join the e60 gang!
  6. Hey all you groovy e60 owners! I have an excellent condition Owners Handbook for First Gen e60 525i 530i 545i for sale. Buying one new from the dealer will sting you $128 ouch! Why not buy mine instead. You can put your savings toward some fine car care products from @Barryn A mere snip at $50 including GST and post to anywhere in NZ. I should mention, it's in English too! "You know it makes sense".
  7. After a drive I park the car in the garage and close the door, if I go back out to the garage later on I can smell raw fuel. I have not noticed the smell inside the car at all.. the fuel cap could be to blame? it seems too easy to open when its done up and clicks.. but maybe its meant to be easy to open. Any common causes? i thought about that filter that you can access under the rear seat.. it has a metal cap over it, so could prevent the smell entering the cabin perhaps.
  8. spotted this tidy monochromatic 530i on TradeMe 121kms leather blaaaaaack $13k8 asking price. Seller says the benefit's 150kg lighter than 550i, and they get 11.4l/100km urban commute. What else do you need? Buy it, join the e60 monochrome set! From the advert: Mechanical: Seems pretty much perfect, drives well, suspension and steering are smooth, tight and noise free. Starts instantly, sounds good, pulls strongly. All electronics work flawlessly. No issues noted by WOF or Mechanics. Only issues we've had was a worn relay replacement, and a transmission sump gasket (replaced by Winger BMW). Also, has recent new battery and tyres Interior: Mostly perfect, interior leather is flawless, no scuffs, nice fresh black! Interior wood, plastic & carpet all look like new. The only flaw is around one of the dash compartments where the rubber coating is a bit scuffed. Exterior: Mostly good. Looks shiny and black, as it should, but has few scratches underneath the one of the sills, not visible unless you're looking under the car. Would be a cheap fix. Few minor scuff marks around the place, but nothing particularly noticeable. Accessories: Comes with a 1600kg Towbar and Roof Racks

    Wheels

Can anyone shed some light on these wheels, they appear very similar to style 166 rims but aren't 19's. Are they an 18 inch reproduction? I'm considering getting some 18's and powder coating them gunmetal grey, was really looking for a set of 135's but these may work also. http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-parts-accessories/wheels-tyres/alloy-wheels/auction-1310556400.htm
  10. just in 2005 e60 530i 115k's 17" alloys good engine trans etc black leather idrive jap spec radio etc cd stacker IMG_0877.MOV
  11. http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/bmw/auction-1289010122.htm the vendor's gone mad with the tilt-shift editing... appears honest. 2006, 195kms, ex japan, silver with dakota leather, sunroof asking $6k9, be a $6k car.
  12. Hi all - having just acquired @treone's awesome E60 M5 I'm wondering about the best place to get a bonkers vehicle like this serviced. I've been a loyal customer of Driscoll Motors on Walter Street for longer than I care to remember. They're a good bunch and service all makes and models including plenty of euros (inc this M5 BTW - and some AMGs) - but a specialist they are not. By default I'll keep going there and another bonus is that they are familiar with Autosure/Vero and have made sure my policies are being used when they can/should. They have done a solid job with my E53 X5 and E60 545i - only thing that they couldn't sort was troubleshooting/replacing the iDrive on the E60 and they don't have the BMW detail module for the AutoLogic code scanner (provides some more detailed explanation of the codes). So - interested in your thoughts and recommendations - what (if anything) would I gain by switching and using somebody like Page European etc? Cheers, Pete
  13. Love these in blue and looks great with M6 wheels - but I think the white interiors look better with the wood trim rather than the silver/alu. Always seem to be a good spread of performance vehicles on the mainland http://www.trademe.co.nz/a.aspx?id=1279490922 $31K 119KMs NZ GPS HUD Has had clutch done and SMG actuator replaced Modified exhaust
  14. Finally got an 04 545i, wish me luck. Haven't even laid eyes on it yet as being delivered tomorrow. Looking forward to spending the long weekend getting used to it. Had an E39 523i two cars back and been hanging out for another Beemer but with some grunt since. Keen to keep an eye on here for tips, advice, parts, drives/runs and anything social.
  15. My 04 545i is now running real rough. Started with just the odd what sounded like a miss fire when cold a couple a weeks ago and would soon come right and idle smoothly. Now it's constantly running rough, not 100% if it's a misfire, or running on 7 or what. I have tried cleaning the mass airflow sensor as one thing I might be able to do but made no difference. Any thoughts or suggestions greatly appreciated. I'm in Dunedin, if anyone here would be willing to help, yarn or suggest someone who may be able to help that would be great. I have just bought a K+DCAN cable to have a crack at trying to work out what might be wrong, but need to work out how to use that first too. Cheers Sam

    20"!!!!

So the old girls got these 20" monters on it, 275/30 and 245/30 (maybe 35) and well it rides pretty harsh and even rubs occasionally under only moderate cornering or bumps on the open road. Nice wheel and tyres to look at but too harsh a ride for around town. Would 18's with 245/40's ride a lot smoother? Hyper Drive have some M6 look a likes well priced at the moment. Anyone interested in these Niches?
  17. http://www.turners.co.nz/Cars/Search/BMW/5-Series/15890906 Estimated $6500-$8500. Has 200KMs on it but pretty tidy and: Power steering fluid below low Oil leaking under engine power steering area Bonnet gas strut broken Reckon this could/would be a bargain subject to inspection. I like my E60 but wish I'd gone for a MSport from an aesthetic point of view. Tempting!
  18. Just wondering if anybody has hit this before. Noticed after stormy crap weather that the left rear seatbelt was damp - tilted rear seat, popped bolster off and found dampness on the wheel arch (near the wiring). Left it to dry out - inside the garage! Looking at my rear windscreen/window, looks like the rubber seal is pretty poked - perished, splitting and it looks like some little chunks have come out so guessing the window needs to come out and a fresh seal installed. Yet another plastic/rubber failure!!!! Oh well .... appreciate any advice/experience with this.
  19. Wife was driving the 545i to work this morning when the check engine light came on and the car started running rough. 'engine fault - drive moderately' was the message. Dropped it in to Driscolls where my X5 is already (for window regulator replacement #2) - they said it will be a coil. Even my 'have a spare BMW' plan isn't enough!! oh well...
  20. Hello everyone, I'm hoping (praying) someone can help. for a short while now my 545I has been showing the "Check engine light" the car then start's to rumble and vibrate quite badly. a message in the I-drive says for me to drive with decreased load and the car just will not run smoothly. on occasion i would pull over, turn the engine off, remove the key, start the engine and all is well. other forums have suggested replacing the CCV valves, which i have and for about 3 months, no issues. Till today. in the space of 30 mins i have had to restart 4 times and yet nothing is working to smooth out the engine. Yesterday i went on the 3 hour drive from Auckland to Matamata and back, no issues and i even clocked up a 200kph run on the straight road into Matamata. She is overdue an oil change (booked in for next week) and other topics around the globe suggest the O2 sensors (x4) on the 545I. Please if anyone can offer assistance or even point me to the direction of a mechanic in Auckland that ACTUALLY knows their stuff when it comes to BMW's. Thank you all in advance - your input is greatly received and appreciated.
  21. Picked up a 2004 e60 545i auto in October last year after being unable to justify an E55 Beautiful tidy car with plenty of go. Working through various rubber and plastic issues that come with age. Previous BMW was an E34 535i which I sold some years ago. Work in IT in Wellington and my other car is a '99 Subaru Legacy GTB which is loads of fun to drive and practical (furniture collection after wife's shopping!) - but now surplus to requirements
  22. Just wondering if anyone else has hit this issue with an iDrive unit failing to boot reliably. Had my car in getting a door trim/switch panel replaced and this involved the whole door panel off and disconnecting a bunch of things. When I got it back the iDrive was just coming up to the BMW logo and then flicking off later on. It is intermittent - about 15% of the time it does start up and run OK. Have done the reset/CTL_ALT_DEL using the 2 disc-player eject keys and the volume on/off button but that doesn't help. The garage is not a euro specialist but does regularly work on BMWs and the diags were reporting issues or absence of low-voltage signals - and didn't know what this meant in terms of a solution. Have it booked into Jeff Gray to get it diagnosed and/or replaced. Thank heavens I have an Autosure Extreme Cover warranty!!! Anybody seen this issue? Unfortunately if it gets replaced (with a replacement Japan-spec unit) I'm expecting to lose the NZ localisation for the radio and GPS nav system
  23. My wife and I may be muppets........but we have managed to pull the front bumper off the E60 four times. Even really low parking bars are a problem. It goes up without a sound and then when reversing it catches....... Anyone else have this issue with their E60 Motorsport? We try to avoid but skill is clearly lacking.
  24. Asking on behalf. The cover on their LHS mirror has been broken and they need a new one. It's a 2007 530i. Not sure on the exact silver, but can find out. Thanks
  25. Found this, thought you guys might like.
