Blaupunkt Standard Radios?

Recommended Posts

What were the standard Blaupunkt radios that came in the 1993 E36 cars with CD changers in the trunk?. My car has a BMW/Sony unit. How about posting photos of your radio and maybe where they might be purchased.

This is precipitated by my need to probably get a new unit for my car.

Thanks all.

Note to Jochen: I have had no luck whatsoever in finding anyone to replace the bad capacitors inside the radio as you suggested.

those 1991-93 bmw /sony radio's all of them packed up . i have about 6 of them here with faults . have replaced them with a sleightly newer sony units , so the same cd changer can be used .

but you have to change the main power and speaker plug , but its not a major

most other later e36 units use the bmw/alpine types and some later ones use philips/bmw units .

here are some listings of units that will work with your cd stacker.

Thanks Brent - great post.

Do I need to replace my unit with a Sony model only? Or can I put in something else like you mention the BMW/Alpina or maybe a Blaupunkt - unless they aren't any good nowadays.

I am such novice when it comes to car stereo - I know next to nothing.

Would you recommend the third trademe listing you posted? Seems like a cheap way to fix my problem.

Would it be best to take the used unit to a car audio shop to have it installed? I have no tools for soldering wires and my fingers are claustrophobic anywhere near the insides of a dashboards.

Thanks also Nathan - I'll try hamish

if you want to use your sony cd cahnger then you will have to stay with sony head deck that has the same type of cd changer plugs.

if you want to throw the whole lot out then you can use anything you like .

i would maybe go for one of the newer tape decks .

maybe this one?

easy enough to swap over just take it to any auto sparky or car audio shop etc . should be about $50 to do the job

Brent,

Is that a photo of your car in signature? Snow in Auckland?

Nice pinstripes, although your car listings say it is an "alipna"

Thanks for the recommendation - I am looking at that newer trademe unit and if I can figure out that when it is on if it does not have blue lights all over it, then I will probably buy it.

Cheers.

Why bother with a tape deck or a stacker. Get something that can play MP3 and it's 10 times better than a stacker. Consider USB or ipod inputs too.

Once you get it, have a talk to these guys and see what harnesses you'll need to hook it up. Much simpler than solder and a very easy DIY

www.edsauto.co.nz

BMW stuff is on page5 of their catalog http://www.edsauto.co.nz/images/PDF_Catalogue/Pages1-9.pdf

You'd need a BMW to ISO, then ISO to whatever unit you end up buying. Might need an aerial interface too.

Here's some cheapies that would probably do the trick:

JVC G465, has wma/mp3, plain black face and says multicolor illumination. Looks like the cage is included (that's the bent tabs you can see in the pic). Presume it's NZ radio but worth asking the question. Can't make it out in the pic but might be missing the plastic surround (new one wouldn't cost more than $10 I guess). *edit - have put questions on TM re FM and surround*

Basic Panasonic. Presume it's all there. Think the W in the model number means NZ radio

Another basic JVC unit

A tape deck unit is not worth anything now cos 99.99% of people don't want them. If you're happy with no CD then ring up your local car audio shop and see if they've got one lying around that they've pulled out of car. Might cost you a dozen beer.

Depending on budget, also think about bluetooth since this new law's coming in. One option would be to get a BT integrated headunit. Guessing you'd be looking over $300 for a bt capable unit

Rogan,

I am trying to do this on a budget and putting a few CD's in the stacker is easy since I don't listen to it that much and it still works fine. MP3/iPod would be nice but probably more hassle and money than I am willing to spend. You're right about the tape player - but if it is part of the stacker head unit I don't mind.

Under $100 for the head unit and $50 to install is my price range.

Thanks.
