Me too, glad its back pronto, it probably only matters when you really need something from this site, which for some is plenty all of the time.

Epic f**k out 2 for the year ..

hopefully thats the last of them but this time we have put some measures in so it wont happen again.

We have moved hosters and gone back onto my old servers so we have control of our systems again. Which has allowed us to make sure backups are being done properly.

There was a massive team effort to bring it back online including data recovery. It was quite touch and go for a while there. But im glad we are back :)

Massive thanks to Cliff, Ollie, Andrew, Heineken, Skype and rack dragons.

Let me paint a picture for you .. this is how the pro recovery of the bimmer site took place....

* 3x guys in Auckland .. with Servers, Beer and skype...

* 1x in Christchurch, with remote connection, skype .. and of course: beer.

Results:

Josh taking a leak behind the rack...

post-1312-1272068778.jpg

Andrew giving me the glad eye... HOT!

post-1312-1272068791.jpg

Josh couldn't find the key to get into one of the servers .... apparently a screwdriver and adjustable pliars do the same job?

post-1312-1272068796.jpg

When in doubt .. apply more alcomohol...

post-1312-1272068804.jpg

Josh and Andrew reeeeeaally confused about where the keyboard is supposed to go...

post-1312-1272068815.jpg

Ollie making sure the beer gets consumed...

post-1312-1272068819.jpg

All up, I Must say .. It's one of the more fun recoverys I've performed!

Where is the tool icon?

You probably don't understand how much bandwidth/server power this place needs to run, it not a $30 p/month option.

hah rad.

Fingers crossed it all holds up - some rangi things going on there.

Big thanks to Cliff - the moment we slid the servers into my rack and hit power we were stuck hah. Cliff skyped us through the whole thing.

Unfortunitly this aint no personal home page.

We have gone back to a model that works, own bandwidth and own servers. Means we can keep a closer eye on it and stop relying on other peoples stuff.

Not sure how much bandwidth you guys use,

though far as I'm aware Pricespy runs on webdrive,

so I'm sure there's a suitable webdrive plan for this site that would be affordable/reliable etc.

just a thought
