Drove it to work. Didn't break down. Winning.

Kinda missed E36 ownership.

Drove the hybrid on its first long trip, Akl to Napier, total of about 415kms. Didn’t manage to get it fully charged before leaving but still managed to travel over 75kms of the journey on full electric (range at the start was showing 26km). Overall consumption was 5.9 ltr / 100kms. I was pretty impressed as it wasn’t an economy run by any stretch - 4 people, luggage and some spirited over-taking.

Nearly got the engine back together on the 540i, draining the fuel tank tomorrow and refilling, time to start it up after that! Better make sure I put the exhaust front section on before I do though haha

Been doing a few little jobs last day or two - refurbished my Mtech 1 wheel, removed and repainted some trim parts (wiper as / door handles etc) and tried a little dash crack band aid.

lucky to only have one visible dash crack - about 2 inches or so long - I’m not into the carpet on the dash look so tried a little ‘fix’.

Had some black RTV sitting around so filled it in using some toothpicks and trim removal tools.

Came out pretty good TBH - not sure if this will stop it growing but it’s certainly less obvious now, not a panacea but not a disaster either.

Will clean up edges properly once it’s fully set.

That’s come up real well. Will be almost invisible when it’s cleaned off.

Turns out JB Weld ‘Black RTV’ is a solid match for E30 dashboard

Wow, that's the most impressive thing I've seen all year! What gear do you sit in at 100?

Most of the trip was in 7th, in P500 mode, or what I call. "economy mode" 😂

I reckon a 'how-to' would go down really well.  Mine's "a bit" cracked beneath my dash mat.

It definitely is still noticeable but does not catch the eye so much (reducing contrast right down).

Basically I taped off the sides of the crack to minimise getting goo everywhere and used those little orange trim remover things to ‘surgically’ fill the crack with very small amounts of the RTV.

I practiced to get the feel on a very small other crack that is out of view in case I cocked it up.

Removed excess using the trim remover over the top of the crack as rags tended to ‘pull’ the RTV right back out of the crack. Let dry a little before removing edge excess with a rag and bit of Isopropyl.

Did it a couple of times to fill in the depth better, could probably use another go so will take some picks when I do that.

Again, it’s still obviously a crack but just tones it down enough - hopefully stops it spreading too as I’m not ready for dash mat life (although your one from Auto 38 looks like one of the nicer ones I’ve seen to be fair)

Got the engine, trans, rear subframe out of parts car. M54b30 rebuild about to commence. Now just need to figure out how to drag the shell out of the garage and onto a trailer with no wheels on 😄

Finally finished all the top end gaskets today and a few other little jobs (ex-HellBM 130i with N54 power)

Will be putting a For Sale advert up in about a week after getting it groomed.

Groomed the (BMWish) GP today as start of prep to sell when I have it back in Wellington.  Looks good from 1m, trying to de-customise some of the appearance “improvements” POs have done.

Tomorrow is aircon repair time.  🤔 $$ or $$$ tbc

@Sammo had some Meguiars Ultimate Conpound and Autoglym super resin polish on hand, two stages of hand work

@E28E30 looking good! Black vinyl for the red mirrors maybe?

Red mirrors is a GP thing, not done by a PO. A very cool car.
