New Noob - Awhitu NZ

Recommended Posts

Here lies the body of a father to a teenager who called one afternoon, "Dad I got a BMW" "oh can you come tow it home and fix it for me"

2 tow ropes later and one wider eyed teenager on his first 86km tow, residing in the drive is an 87 E30 M20B20 Manual - Actually not a bad buy for $400 with reg on hold.

Structurally sound - clear coat on hood and Sunroof need sorting, tiny bit of surface rust appearing on sunroof and one small dent near left front nose cone, paint in very good order, but Rupes will make it shine.

More bounce in the shocks than Pamela Anderson on a trampoline.

Interior very clean, front seats been well protected by sheep skin covers over the years - yoink out those stinky worn things go..

Gear stick boot missing, some fake carbon fibre knob... smooth feel threw gears..

Alloy wheels, someone painted them well in matte black, but the glow in the dark pin stripes around the rims will call for a sand blast, spares an alloy and perfect, tyres are some unknown breed and can't be far off new, winters coming, these might end up on the trailer.

330,000km - hmmm time to pop the hood... OMG

EFI and induction system missing, (found in boot with new radiator and hoses) rocker covers been off at some point excessive HTS all over.

Hello what do we have here, (download service manual) ok... non standard wiring coming threw the firewall and what looks like a melted Heater Resistor - Research... All indications suggest heater resistor should be in the heater box, behind a firewall cover.. Trace wires later..

Discovery (pile of receipts in glovebox) Heater resistor repaired as new or second hand can't be sourced Nov 2013.

Serviced Oct 2013 - of no benefit, air filter wasn't changed.

Receipts for new Pioneer/JVC sound system June 2013 $246 - Hey half the cost of they car - but one thing I wont have to do..

Replacement motor located $200 with ECU Fan to flywheel - Had contemplated putting it back together, but please $168 for a top gasket set trade, if I had the time id import for a fraction. Also researched a 2.5 replacement on many sites and for the sake of $200 and getting it going fast this is quicker, I might be generous later down the line, seems a very easy swap, I think the Getrag 240 is up to the task, these things hardly develop much torque.

So this weekends looking like a lot of citrus degreaser is going to be used, and one teenagers going to learn a lot and have the feel of cold steel on his knuckles.

Damn. If Dads doing the work, does this mean there won't be 26 inch rims and airbag suspension? What a shame :D

Welcome though! Looks like the car will get some much needed love.

He's got a purdy face, he don't need no bling, just a bowling hat on the parcel shelf to give it that responsible look..
