i find it funny that its a supposedly a common fault, i have no doubt it is, but in over 25 E30s passed through my ownership now not one has had a dead odo!

True. The way some issues get bandied about you'd think that every car fitted with that particular speedo / gear-box / engine etc. was affected by the problem.

So far I am one from three on the odometer issue.

I had this fault on 1 of 2 e30s I had. Got gears from Garagistic. The fix is easy.

Very cheap and easy fix, took 20 minutes and patience.

have done a few over the years e30 e28 e24 early e34 etc , just old plastic that crumbles,

maybe some of your guys cars have had the repairs already

also I remember when working at another wreckers , had a guy went through about 12 clusters on the shelf before finding a e30 one that worked

There's a small market for these.
I've wondered about stocking some things like this. The odd bits that the other guys tend not to keep.

On a related note - how do I test a cluster when it's out of the car?

What's garagistics shipping to nz? Surely the gears could be 3d printed in nz way cheaper

I'm sure they could, and it's probably not worth buying just the gears from them.

Get some polybushes or something else useful, and add the gears to the order. The VDO gearkit is USD17, the Motometer one is $30. Worldwide shipping is USD 13.95.
