97' Evo M3 Vert - Worth that much?

Recommended Posts

I've seen this nice example a while back on TM. Lovely looking car, and the colour is very desireable. Now, what are your thoughts on the price tag? Personally, i wouldn't pay that much for a vert, but that doesn't mean i can't appreciate a nice well kept, unmolested example. There's many other BMW's that will make you smile for a few $k less. Hope it goes to a good home, It may be a tad difficult to sell at the current price. I'm thinking a more realistic $18k plus? Unless a private collector picks it up, that would make sense. Is anyone willing to venture past $25k for an E36 M3? Perhaps i'm wrong? I'm aware the market value for genuinely well kept examples are creeping up world wide, but as they do, it's the individuals and special production models that lead the way with value. Lovely car anyway.

He's banking on the rarity of such a low K Evo, with a full service history appealing to someone, appealing more than an E39 M5...  I guess if your having your midlife crisis you want the top down...

I think he's dreaming to say the E36 Price could ever get near E30 M3 price...

E30 M3 1702 total (82 Convertible)

E36 M3 2212 Globally (122 Convertible)

The numbers look close enough till you consider only 640 E39 M5 were built

Numbers from HERE

It is a very nice example but they'll need to wait for just the right buyer.

I'd pay less for a vert over a coupe personally. Just seems like a catch 22 having an E36 with all the goodies, then no roof so it's floppy and you can't drive in the same way you can a coupe.

Just looked at that site and . . . .

Production Data
spacer.gif
How many versions of the E39 M5 were produced?
BMW M produced three versions of the E39 M5: Two European-specification models (left-hand drive and right-hand drive) and one North American-specification version.
spacer.gif
How many of each version of the E39 M5 were produced?
DE91 (ECE-spec, LHD): 7,895 examples produced from 10/1998 through 06/2003
DE92 (ECE-spec, RHD): 2,595 examples produced from 10/1998 through 06/2003
DE93 (NA-spec, LHD): 9,992 examples produced from 09/1999 through 06/2003

The numbers on that site are purely the cars whose owners have bothered to give up their information and "register" with that site. It doesn't even fully cover the number of cars still in existence for each model, I would suggest more owners haven't bothered than have, certainly for the E30 M3 from recent discussions on specialst forums.

But, yeah, build numbers are much lower for E30 M3, 17,870 total IIRC, including the 270 motorsport shells and the cabrios. Whereas the E36 would be into six figures across all three versions and two generations. Values are influenced by the rarity, but the E30 M3 was an Iconic road car and racer, the E36 not so much..

Couldn't have said it better. I'm not sure why you'd pay that much money for a car that is so close to brilliance but misses the mark by being floppy and heavier. If it was a hardtop and 5k cheaper I think it would have been snatched up already.

I've driven a standard 328i convertible, kinda cool, but when you push them on our crappy roads, ughh, scuttle shake!!

Good nice road cruiser with power and style however, if you like showing your bald patch around the resurfaced roads of Auckland City...

Love it, SC430 man over here dissing BMW driving dynamics :P

Seller is extracting the Michael, but credit for sneaking what looks like a 355CS into the background

Hayyyyy, Don't forget I drive the *soarer UZZ32 hydraulic suspension, version. They give an E46 M3 a run for their money handling wise. No springs, no sway bars just hydraulic computer controlled rams in each corner, with a multitude of sensors, 4 wheel steering, coupled with a faster than normal front steering rack. It's a joy to drive. Nearly as quick with the new 4.3 V8 motor I dropped in too, torque for dayys!

Wouldn't bother with standard coil sprung Soarer, they are boats.

Keep in mind I sold my long time E36 V8 project with M3 suspension to buy it as they are super rare.

I'll never sell this! <3

And the buy now has gone up to $31.5k. Not going to happen.

https://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/bmw/auction-2241726144.htm

Arguably it's worth more now than it was 2 years ago (assuming same condition) but that might bring it up to the original price of $25k but certainly not 30+ . Seems well serviced but you have to do all that or the car will stop working, it's not an added-value extra, servicing a car doesn't make it more valuable although failing to service it can destroy value.

Then again, somebody is trying to hock a e46 M3 SMG for $50k lol.

https://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/bmw/auction-2245717254.htm

And there's that 3.0 M3 that they're still trying to get $38k for.

A world full of dreamers, they've been spending too much time on BaT.

Haha, fully agree with you Dave. There's a couple of M3 Evos on pistonheads for £10k, they look to be in good condition. Although, the term 'good condition' has various definitions these days.

The Trademe E36 vert is gorgeous but 20k is more reasonable. 25k on the got lucky side.

It stands to become the current price benchmark, despite being a convertible.

It's got an amazing logbook of work for the distance travelled. Great colour.

Hopefully the autobids stop soon!

Unlikely.  I see you are the only non Car Dealer bidding.  Once they buy it for a stupid amount of money you will be able to buy it from them the same day for slightly more.
