Yeah, what's up with all those welds? Going for the steampunk look?

Poor attempt at pie cuts.

Forgive my ignorance but do you know why you'd use pie cuts welded together over a mandrel bent pipe?

Probably because the shape and fitment was developed in situ, so there were no measurements to get the bends made.

That said, my biggest issue is the ugliness of the welds. I can understand the tempered v polished finish if they were beat TiG welds, but those look like slugs laid down from a MiG gun - compare the welds on the pipe to the silencer.

Not saying I could do better - but as it’s so prominent in the look of the bike they should be better finished.

The welding on the rise to the tailpipe is a bit messy. Probably effective, but could be much tidier. I think the pie cuts are there to deal with heat expansion and possibly a change in material (different expansion rates).

This one isn't perfect, but it's much better.

You can guarantee internal radius, and achieve tighter bends than with a mandrel bend. The Japanese tuners in the late nineties / early 00's turned it into an art form with intercooler piping. At this stage with advanced machines like a Femi Band Saw, pie cuts are a purely aesthetic choice.

I have worked with bikers that kept their bikes inside, throughout the house, even doing a rebuild in the lounge and engine overhaul on the kitchen table! So I wouldn’t put taking a bike into the shower past some of the two wheeled fraternity.

@Allanw would never be so crude as to use the Fisher and Paykel parts washer in the kitchen for dishes...

Excuse me! It's a Bosch! A german one!

I stopped buying F&P years ago, when it took them 18 months to replace my stove, and the brand new one was faulty too - Never buy F&P crap again 😉

I just built brand new front struts for the R32ran in the dining room this week though. She didn't even roll her eyes 😁

At Caffeine and a classics this morning.

Monster turn out but not enough BMWs.

Not sure if this is a members car? Average photo but car was stunning, top condition, leather stitched dash etc - absolute beauty got me day dreaming about an E24...
