48k final selling price, bit of a bargain for the buyer it feels.

The gloss has gone right off them. Market reajusting  driving up slightly the N/A inline six cylinders at the expense of the N54 N and S 55 engined cars. Well overdue too, we are always the last to cotton on here in NZ. That was a very nice car too, happy seller there!

Yes and no. They were always overpriced, but it's probably an outlier rather than a market shift. Like I've said before, the same cars are for sale at prices that don't reflect their worth. I'd almost put money on a 1M not selling for less than 60K this year unless its a fire sale like this one appeared to be.

I suspect you could trade your way from a $30K E36 M3 into a $40K E46 M3 into a mint low mileage 1M over the next 18 months if you had the wherewithal. Could be a fun little ownership period.

Price was close to that for the black 1M with similar kms. May be my cautious nature, but the vendor "discovering" a faulty headlight minutes before the auction closed wouldn't encourage late bidding. (Not the cost of replacement as much as the creation of doubt in potential bidders' minds).

IMHO.

That was a bit sneaky too, dropping "oh its had an error for years, but btw it needs a new headlight" at the last minute.

Long term the turbo cars will be the ones that are in demand. Look at Supra's the 2jzGTE is the one everyone wants not the N/A car. N54/N55 are suffering as much from the fact that the target market doesn't like to do preventative maintenance because it costs money but the N54 engines especially are very strong and reliable, its whats bolted on them that needs attention.

It seems likely that fewer than 1000 RHD 1Ms still exist. https://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1741852

Draw your own conclusion regarding their long-term desirability/ values, but as NZ and Australia got 350 of them new (c30% of RHD production), it's probable that the better examples will be exported to the UK if/when prices drop to the levels some are predicting.
