VW transponder keys

Recommended Posts

I just bought Mrs Herbmiester a VW Touareg. Car was looked after by Mike Page in Kapiti and he said its a pretty solid car. Anyway it only has one key and after looking into things it appears I have a few options.

  1. Buy one from VW. $650
  2. buy one from locksmith $350
  3. Buy a key only with no buttons but with transponder $150
  4. Use a VW group key (secondhand) have the transponder reprogrammed and a key cut?

Option 4 is one I have read a bit about but would like to know more anyone have any other options? The car does have comfort access so I could lock and unlock with a plain transponder key (no buttons). Any thoughts?

Personally because you are in Welly, I'd go genuine and have it coded to the car by the dealer or drive to Auckland and have Express keys do it.

Glen I am sure they are solid options but both are going to cost a fortune.
