John Frankenheimer's classic, Ronin. Natascha McElhone ? hustling a a 3.6 M5 through Paris being chased by Robert De Niro in a 406. We all know the car that flips at the end isn't really an M5 when it switches from Turbines to Weaves and back to Turbines again, but those magnesium Turbines were never cheap, even in 1997.  Always cracks me up when Stellan Skarsgård's character only buckles up in the M5 about 4:30 in when they start going against the flow of traffic.

Fun fact: the end scene from part 1 that was used at the start of part 2 was reshot identically, as Elisabeth Shue replaced Jennifer Parker for parts 2 and 3.

BMW Z8 in James Bond, The World is not enough, 1999.

Poor car (really just a model) gets cut in half.

Spider man - 'in to the spider-verse' the animators must have a soft spot for e39 m5' s. I lost count of how many I saw in street scenes in different colours...

The 850i makes a brief appearance in Heat with Deniro and Pachino. If you don’t think this is one of the best crime movies of all time, I feel sorry for your soul.

And then in another great 90s movie there is Michael Douglas in The Game driving an E38.
