BMW X1 2011 Automatic - sport mode

Hi there!

for a few days now I have an issue with my BMW X1 (year 2011, AUTOMATIC). I can't switch into sport mode anymore nor can I change the gears manually with the shift lever. Changing gears manually with the paddles at the steering wheel still works.

I think that is something electrical. I already took the cover of the middle console off but couldn't see any obvious fault (detached cable etc.).

Any ideas or suggestions would be much appreciated (I already tried Mr. Google but couldn't find anything specific for the X1 )

Your X1 is based on the E90 3 series and has the same gear selector unit so if you do another search on Dr Google you will find something. It's something to do with the wiring breaking at the selector unit which is apparently very hard to see until you remove the complete shifter.

Turned out that was exactly the problem. 2 wires were broken. Everything fixed and Sport Mode and manual gear change is working again.
