Dream touring 😍

Recommended Posts

Ive seen perhaps 3 for sale in this price range over last couple of years but never seen one actually sell.

While i quite like them you can get the equivalent rs6 wagon with the twin turbo v10 for half that price or a 2014 model turbo v8 rs6 wagon.

That is the same one that was for sale a few years ago for a similar price, $20k more than I paid for my UK import and I can't see that much value being added by it being NZ new. Will be great if it sells for that!!

I reckon it's close to the tipping point where the cost of fuel it's consumed is more than the value of the car.

Hmm.  No thanks.  Could have saved nearly 50K and purchased @GorGasm's E60 M5.

or maybe THIS for quite a bit less.  The m5 was 1 of 2 sold new in NZ. And yes, I know this is a replica ---  but it is definitely

one-of-a-kind.

You could have had that, and the F10 550i touring on TM for a daily :).

Yeah, exactly. Thread is turning into “things you could buy for the same money as a V10 M5 Touring, that aren’t (as cool as) a V10 M5”

Like a lot of classic Bimmers, such as E30 M3, etc, there are lots of arguably better value alternatives. But if you WANT the classic Bimmer, that is the only car that will scratch that itch.

I used to own this car. Great example and certainly won’t find a better example in NZ!

I believe the other NZ new (black car) has done over 300,000kms. Could be wrong about that though.

Looking for some help with this car, currently I'm in negotiations with the trader and I'm looking for a recommendation on where to get an independent PPI done? Christchurch BMW is fully booked this week, are there any reputable independents that I can get the car checked over by? Any help here would be fantastic.

Long story short, I have spent years wanting an E60 M5 and came pretty close about 6 months ago to buying a low milage fresh import. That didn't work out and this came up, I've watched the price drop over the months and they offered an attractive price for a trade.

I'm not trying to hijack this thread, just thought that this was the most appropriate place to ask for help.

Thanks.

Southern Specialists have sold M cars in the past for the Chch dealer principal, I'd just ask them if he used to own it. They're usually cost no object cars when he owns them, so a fairly low chance of finding any demons if that's the case. Just my experience with another M5 that they sold.

DCH would be the go-to in chch I believe, there's usually plenty of M3's and M5's parked out the front.

Many thanks for the info Leichtbau, I'll ask them for the details. Southern Specialists look to have a reasonably good reputation and on the face of it having seen some of the service records it would appear to have been a no expense spared history.

I ask Southern Specialist Cars what if anything that could tell me regarding the previous owner - They were helpful without revealing anything that would be a breach of privacy. Apparently it has come from a collector who traded it on a one of a kind Range Rover.

I am very curious about this topic but the original ad is gone.  Could someone please post what the car was and the asking price. Thanks.

With @Twistee's purchase I've been finding myself strangely drawn to the other E61 M5 on TM.

https://www.trademe.co.nz/a/motors/cars/bmw/m5/listing/3207680991?bof=8bxBkGOu

Not in as nice condition as his (front bumper is munted) and the fact there's a 13k bill from Auckland City BMW (rod bearings I assume) is mildly disconcerting but it is the coolest Touring you can get...

Any other pro's / cons? @aja540i

Look at the immediate up front costs that are going to add to the purchase price, it looks to have a pretty comprehensive history. Bumper aside, it just needs a good professional detail to make it puuurdy.

Mechanically at 150.000km it's possibly rolling around to clutch and brake rotor replacement time. Check the boot , open the amp area on the left and battery compartment and hope that the sunroof drains are taken care of and there is no water damage. When was the battery replaced? There are a hundred items to look for and they are well listed.

Regardless of the scarcity of these wagons if you want to buy one then find everything that is wrong with it up front and get the right price, people are not lining up to buy these when fuel is at an all time high so take the time to get it completely checked over.

Have a PPI done by someone that is a specialist and comes with a recommendation, BM workshop? If you've gotten this far in your buyers hunt then none of this should be news to you.

Your alternative is to look overseas, but that has its own pros and cons.

My 2c. (Probably worth less)
