Dont buy an I3

Recommended Posts

Hardly a reason to not a buy a certain model of car too. Can almost search "[insert model here] car fire" and get reports of any car burning to the ground. Certainly don't search "tesla car fire"...

Not worth it tbh, just get everyone away safe. Its only a car, and unless you carry around a 10kg extinguisher or something, it aint gonna make a lick of difference if you have a 1kg at arms reach.

Race cars are a bit different.

I disagree, I have personally put out 3 fires that would have become much more serious, with 1kg automotive fire extinguishers, its all about getting them under control while they are small fires.

1kg is the basic size mandated for Clubsport level events, and I have one in my car. Thankfully I have never needed to use one to put out a fire. But a few years back I read about a guy who had spent a couple of years building up his road car and a small fire started in the trunk on his very first test drive. He had to stand by and watch two years work burn to the ground as he was unable to control the fire without an extinguisher. That convinced me that even a small extinguisher is a worthwhile item to carry on any vehicle.

Cheers...

Thats a bit different to an appliance like an i3 though. Of course if you built something you loved you'd keep a decent sized extinguisher in it, but any other appliance isnt worth risking your life trying to save it. Just have it insured and keep your distance.

I think you are right, but you can always do both, have an extinguisher and insurance!

I think it's a bit pointless if the Lithium cells rupture and explode (you can't 'put that out' really) though. In this case, sounds like the combustion engine was to blame.

I'm thinking about another i8 (used, import) and will prob get BMW to do a service so they can't as easily wash their hands of it should something go wrong..

Pretty much, dealers hate imports regardless.
