  1. Hi all.

So I'm seriously looking at a 2.8 motor with brake booster needed for the conversion into my e30 320. The engine doesn't come with ecu and loom so I was wondering what peoples opinions are on getting a after market set up or try buy a 328 ecu and loom then modify it to fit the e30.

Plus any good references for the swap.

    Cheers.

  2. Has anyone experienced a problem with there temp gauge flicking between 1/4 and 1/2 randomly and sometimes when you 1st turn the car on it will stay below cold before kicking into life.

It seems that its internal as a friendly tap will take it from just above halfway back down to what im used to as normal operating temp of about a 1/4.

I'm not sure if i should start poking around in the gauge cluster to see if theres anything obvious.

Thanks in advance for any help

  3. yeah, id say they're crap

3 pedals is right, if you want a nice job done, pay the money

that money really isnt too bad, it includes new bump stops and rear top mounts too

having said that, you could do it cheaper yourself if you know how

    what springs are you using?

Hi Gus it looks like PnH are going to be the go, as everyone Ive spoken to have given them the thumbs up. I can get the shocks at auto trail for $992+gst and they are happy for me to supply the shocks so theres almost $200 saved. I brought the car lovells in it and was going to see what it was like on those first.

Does anyone know anything about B8 motorsport valved Bilsteins? speedfactor is getting a quote for me on a set of these too.

  4. they are COMPLETELY different cars..is the 540 a manual?Do my eyes deceive me or are they actually throwing stars(the wheels)?Could be $2000 dollars worth of wheels if the right people were to bid for em...Take the 540 for a drive..the difference to the E30 will be night and day.

Dont know if its just the angle but the 540 should have the W I D E grill not the neat narrow(e 30 ish) one

Yeah they sure are, nah shes auto. 2g! didn't really think much of them on it ay crazy. No its the wide grill. I think i just like the power of the 540 but def prefer the looks of the e30. Just had a few probs lately with it and was throwing up the idea.

  5. $120 for a seal kit, mission to get in and out! (guessing e30) but do-able, ive done it twice and hopefully not again. That price is a from a dealer.

Yeah e30 (my bad) twice gutted lol hope once will be enough....so basically drain the fluid dis connect the lines pull it down and replace the seals? any problem areas? while i'm there is there any other common leak points?

    cheers chris

  6. So I finally got round to investigating as to why I was loosing fluid and now it has really started leaking, not good. following the lines from the tank down to the steering gear, upon pushing the boot fluid then pissed out of a small hole in the boot.

What am I in for here is it relatively easy to pull it all down (bench job) or is this one for a mechanic? also how much is it going to hurt the suspension fund lol.

Thanks in advance for your help

  7. So you have all herd this question a thousand times before but here it goes. My 1990 e30 really needs some new shocks so I took it in to PnH suspension in hamilton for some ideas and pricing and the guy suggested to do the front as a start using kyb's $550 fitted and aligned.

Reading through the posts it sounds like kyb's are crap I think my dad can get me koni's for slighty cheaper than retail so maybe that would be the way to go. How hard is this to do yourself? Also the car has lovell lowering springs would these need to be changed?

    Cheers

  8. The 2.0 runs sweet shes only done 128km but I'm after a bit more power any ideas on price for that sort of conversion? I've been looking around at sr20det conversions but cant get enough info on it. Does anyone know how hard it is to put a 3.5 v8 out of a manual 5 series? theres one on trademe for just over a grand. Basically Ive got 4 grand at the moment to spend on her just need a direction

  9. Ive put a pair in mine which are the ones from trademe you were talking about, they're not to bad. The mounts worked fine and everything seems secure.

The wiring isn't much at all, you get a relay which has a plug for connecting the old park light connector plug into for switching the angel eyes which are directly feed off the battery. The low and high beams connect up as normal. The kit comes with all the necessary wiring and some black looming.
