Still looking to sell ASAP. Need to get it off the street.
-
Some pics, didn't realise I could post them up.

Hey guys For those that have shown some interest, I have sent out pics and more PM's. As always, let me know if you need more info, pics or whatever. I need to get rid of the car now as it is still parked on the street and I am in danger of getting a ticket for not having a WOF and Reg so I will take $700 for it, from the first person interested with cash. PS, not a biggie, but the gear knob is missing. I took it off cos it was loose and have lost it. Sorry
-
Right, I have replied to all that have sent me PM's. Sorry for taking so long in getting back to you guys. If anyone is after pics or more info, just let me know your email addresses and I can send some stuff out. Cheers.

Sorry guys, I hadn't realised a few of you had sent me PM's. I am just going thru them now and will reply. Cheers.

I'm in Auckland so it would probably cost quite a bit for freight. If you wanted me to, I can get the parts you wanted out of the car and you can organise shipping. It doesn't have the screwdriver though. I have sent you an email with some more details. Let me know if you have any questions. Cheers.

The car is a '86 2 door coupe, non power steering, manual transmission, manual sunroof, and is red. I didn't want to say what the wrecker had offered, if you are interested and want some more details just let me know. I am not into ripping people off, so if you are way off what I have been quoted previously, I will let you know. Ball park figure is under $1000. If you buy the steering rack, then you will get the car free if the price is right. I won't be able to store a parts car, so need to get rid of the whole thing.

Hey Guys I am biting the bullet now, I can't keep my bimmer any longer. The rego and WOF have run out cos I can't afford to get the smokey engine fixed. The car will be sold as a parts car, although it does run. The car is in alright condition, some panel damage to left rear quarter (missing trim), and to the front bumper (mishap with a towbar). Other than that, it runs fine, but blows some smoke when it is warm. Near new directional tyres on all corners (Champiro I believe on the standard wheels). It has the windup sunroof too. The car is red. I am not asking for much, I know it won't be worth much. I have a price to sell to a wrecker, so if someone wants to make an offer, I will let you know if it is more than I have been quoted so far. I would prefer to sell this as a complete unit, not as individual parts too (depending on how much you want to pay for the parts of course ).

Apparently the price I received above was just for the engine - nothing else. A transmission and loom would cost an additional $1000 + GST extra. There goes my plan of an upgrade. I will be shopping for a new car in the near future. I will keep you posted.
-
I was afraid of that. I will keep an eye out for a donor car, but at this point, a lot of the advice points to either just giving up (something I am not used to!) or not upgrading as you say from 4-6.Decisions, decisions........

Is Graeme's car still for sale? Is it in the for sale section here?I wasn't really thinking of spending that much just on an engine. I thought that price was a bit high for what it is.

An initial price for a 325i engine (unsure if this is with a gearbox, and/or a loom) was $1950 + GST. Is this a good price? Does anyone know how much it costs to get everything certified?
-
I wasn't too sure about the 325i, but now you have confirmed what I really wanted. I was just looking into the 320i cos I heard (through Andrew) that it was a straight swap.It will need to get a new gearbox with the 325i though, putting that much more power through would eat the current gearbox. Would I have to do the same for a 320i? Plus new brakes and suspension too. With the 320i, I might almost get away with the current suspension and brakes, with small upgrades like the springs and brake pads. How much are we talking for one of these engines? Rough ballpark estimate?? Don't worry, I won't do anything yet, I am just information gathering to see what can and can't be done.

Hi All 1. I am after a new front bumper for my E30 318i, I don't mind what colour or what style (standard will do fine) just so long as it is tidy. My one looks a bit sad after a small meeting with a tow bar 2. My current 318i has no power steering, but since I am swapping the engine out, I thought I might as well upgrade this while I am there. I am after a E30 318i power steering rack and anything else I need for power steering. 3. Also, I am after a 320i 6cyl engine to do an engine transplant in my 318i which is on its last legs. I am also after the loom for this (standard ecu etc). If I can't get the loom, I guess I could look at picking up a Link ECU or similar product if anyone has a spare one lying around I might post some more things I need here at a later date.
-
Hey, what about the steering rack from the 318i, did this have power steering and is it still available. Thanks.
-
Ok, I'm hooked on an engine swap now, and the 320i engine sounds like what I am wanting to do. I guess no matter of mods to a 4cyl will make it sound nice and smooth like a 6cyl!! If anyone hears of a 320i 6cyl + loom going, can you please let me know? Cheers. I assume when you say a no brainer, that means that it bolts straight in and you don't need to do much else? I will need to get some wiring info later on once this is off the ground. I am also on the lookout for a new steering rack. While the engine is out, I may aswell replace the rack and power steering stuff.

Well, I have been a bit lazy about getting onto sorting this problem, so I paid someone to take a look at it for me. From initial looks, without taking much apart etc, it looks like the rings are gone. I could be up for around $1500 or so to get these fixed which is just a rough figure. However, I could be keen on getting a used 318i motor to tide me over, depending on the price etc. I have replied to a couple of posts in the for sale section, but if anyone else hears of a 318i motor (that goes well!) going for sale, please let me know. Cheers.

Is the engine still available?
-
Forgot to ask, what colour are the panels, bonnet and boot?
-
Can you tell me a bit more about the engine? How many km's has it done? What condition is it in? Definitely keen if this is in good order.
-
It probably looks like the usual story, someone that has bought a car and has unreal expectations of what it can/can't do or be changed to do. I didn't buy it to mod initially, but I keep thinking of stuff I can do. At the moment I will be concentrating on fixing up the few minor problems I am having, and if the engine decides to blow in the next few months, then I will have to think hard about what to do - starting with whether to replace the engine with the standard, upgrade to a larger BMW engine, or replace with another engine. The latter 2 options will mean additional cost, so once again my decision will be based on how large my pocket is. Ideally, given I had the money, I would panel beat and repaint the car (not going overboard, but I would like to have a nice kit on it, there is a lot of mention on this forum and others about M kits), replace suspension (power steering would need to be installed), upgrade brakes, tidy the interior (new front seats, retrimmed rear seats and door panels, repaint or recover the dash and center consoles), upgraded engine (something around 2-2.5L) and with a turbo or supercharger, programmeable ECU, and some new wheels. More than likely in that order too. Or I will look to sell the car and buy a Honda Civic or something cheap that won't make me want to mod it. Scratch that - make that Hyundai Sonata, modding that would just be embarrasing. So, anyone got information about reconditioning engines?
