  1. Hey Guys,

Having a bit of trouble with my rear brake light on my 95 320i 4 door. From time to time I get a message on my onboard display saying "Brake Light Failure". When the message is displaying the light is out, I have checked all my bulbs and connections etc and they seem ok. Then after a day or so the message seems to disappear and the light works fine.

Sometimes I can start the car and go for a drive and the message will not display, switch it off and come back a while later and after starting the car up again the message will display.

This has been happening on and off for a while now, any ideas what could be causing this and how i can sort it out?

    Cheers

    Steve

  2. So I finally got around to ripping out my standard head unit out and install my kenwood. Been looking for ages to find a wiring loom, but no luck. So i decided to cut the wiring loom off. Connected the power, acc power and ground wires to my kenwood, made sure there is power going to the head unit, i.e i can eject and load a cd but the dispaly is just not showing up and nothing seems to work, connected a specker up but no sound. Have you guys got any idea as to what the prob could be or maybe know where there is a wiring diagram so i can identify each wire of the bmw wiring loom.

    Hope you can help :P

  3. If you mean the cd stacker in the boot ... mine didn't play mp3s or burnt cds so I didnt bother. I hacksawed it off after managing to strip the mounting nuts that hold the stacker on to the boot roof... needed to make rooom for the subs some how :)

Good luck dude, let me know if you get stuck and ill help as best I can.

Will do man, cheers for all ya help, ill let you know how it goes

  4. P.S FYI -

As you are hardwiring you might find that you have a couple of random wires left over.

One of these wires I had no idea about.

The other one I later found out when trying to drive that night was for my interior lights, incl instrument cluster.

So make sure you test them all and connect all that need to be connected as taking the whole thing out again and retesting at 9pm on a Saturday night is not fun.

Hahaha cheers for all our help ill make sure to test them all first. Have you had any experience with connecting the standard Cd Shuttle aswell by any chance?

  5. I had the same problem with the wiring loom.

In the end I just hacked the wires off and hard wired the new head unit up.

Yea thats exactly what i im gonna have to do. That bracket will not budge, even with a bit of encouragement from a screw driver. How did you mount your head unit? Havent really seen a place i can screw it into etc.

  6. Open the covers like you've done, then use an allen key to unscrew the screws, there are two. One on the left, one on the right. In actual fact it's not exactly the allen key shape I believe, but allen keys work fine and I believe 99% of people use allen keys :) I've never stripped them just don't overtorque them.

Yea got that far but having trouble removing the wiring loom at the back of the head unit that all the wires connect to so i can actually remove the head unit completely. I slid the bracket forward like the little diagram on it say to do but then cant remove the wiring loom etc. Cheers for your help

  7. The owners manual recommends 95 or better but says you can run it on 91 but yoou are likely to have increased fuel consumption

Cheers, talking about owners manuals you wouldnt know where to buy/download one, mine is entirely in Japaneese
