  1. depends how deep your pockets are , there are only 3 left in NZ ( out of the low score of NZ new registered cars ) with mileage under 100,000kms . I know where all 3 live & two owners are welded into them , the other is the car on line now .

Your absolute best bet is to consider the LeMans car in Invergiggles . Very good car & I know there have been many on here bagging that car . I used to own one the best E39's in the country ( low mileage car etc etc ) & after i bought it I later found out that it had a whack in the rear 1/4 early on in its life - who cares ! The car was mint & what second hand car hasn't had paint , panel work sometime in its life .

If you're looking to buy to keep & not run down the slippery slope of the speculator market ( you know what I'm talking about - you own a couple Porsches ! ) then buy the 03 Le mans car & keep it . I've seen that car close up & honestly who ever did the repair needs a gold medal - you'd never know .

Reckon we'll look at that particular M5 in 5 years time & think , gee $35K wasn't bad at all & who cares about the history after all , as there will be no decent examples left & if there are , then they'll be drug money .

I think you've missed the boat already mate .

  2. If the RS6 is out of budget how would the F10 M5 be affordable? Aren't they similarly priced?

My vote ... Lexus IS-F (great bang for buck in my opinion) and way less thirsty than the V8 in the M3 (borderline ridiculous to be honest, but not as bad as the Merc C63, now that IS thirsty).

I agree Tom , I've driven all the cars mentioned here apart from the Falcon have to agree the IS-F is a fantastic car & now with the locking diff ( the only difference made to the model since its arrival to the market) makes it a really good package & price point is hard to pass by un-noticed especially second hand models done under 5,000 km's for circa $100K or under. I seriously looked at one brand new back last year but as Kiwi535 pointed out ( good on you ! ) a stunning low km 2002 E39 M5 presented itself & I couldn't help myself. I also saved pots of $$$$$ & I haven't looked back. A well looked after M5E39 is the best reason not to buy a new car ( my opinion only )For the money nothing comes close to lovely old E39M5.

I will be waiting with anticipation over the arrival of the F10 & to think in 3-5 years time an F10 M5 will be worth ......??? ... now that's food for thought!

  3. I have up for sale an '04 M3CSL & an '02 M5 E39 as per listings on trademe.

Yes the CSL is the same car that was up for sale recently - I've lost storage for it & have decided it's better off

in the care of someone else that can enjoy it. My loss your gain........

Yes the M5 is pricey & you'll all be thinking I'm nuts asking circa $60K for an E39 but it's simply the most stunning thing you'll see. I have spared nothing on this car & it shows. I have had people in the automotive industry say its simply the best E39M5 they've ever seen- period.
