  1. Just a few quick question been thinking about maybe converting my auto E36 M43 to a 5speed Manual. The thing is does it matter what 5speed gearbox i use like long as it was fitted to the same model E36 and engine? or?The other thing is i was going to convert the engine a bit further down the track to a 6 cylinder would the gearbox adapt to the 6 cylinder engine. Also any recommendations in better options such as what gearbox/clutch etc to use would be really appreciated.

    Thanks Jaz

  2. Hey there umm well i don't really know whats cool but over the years i have many brands of tyres on my cars. It's all down to budget what you can afford your driving style and what you drive.I wouldn't just put a set of tyres on for the cool factor as there a key item that keeps you in contact with the road.I'm running Kumho Ecsta 16"s so far I'm very impressed by them as price wise there reasonable and great grip in the wet and dry.But there on a 318i so there's not a lot of power running through them. What kind of wheels do you have size etc? i would upgrade that as well if you want that sort of attention from people.

  3. Hi that sort of stuff is common over here either they damage your wheels, car, or just get it wrong etc. It's also common to see them rattle gun your wheel nuts and ruin them. You have to ask and ask them to use a t bar and even watch them too.The best thing is find a Tyre shop that you can trust and are happy with the work they do downside is a little bit more pricey sometimes.Over here most of the Tyre shops are franchises so everyone is run different cause of the owner, manager, and staff.Don't get me wrong some are great but not many best to supervise your self or take just the wheels to the shop leave the car at home on stands.

  4. Hey guys just wondering if these wheels on my E36 are stock BMW wheels or just random 16"s with BMW center caps on them?.I Haven't had a chance to take them off the car to inspect them properly.I have searched the net as well looked at car sales websites etc in AU/NZ but haven't seen any on another E36 yet.Any info would be great also any advice on 18"s on E36's are a good idea or not?

    Thanks Jaz

  5. Too many variables. You would need alternator make (Valeo, Bosch), part number and amp output to get correct part you want. Thats if the parts are available.

Thanks Glenn will just have to wait till next week and get it out of the car and find out what type and part numbers/amp output is etc.Just hope you N.Z guys have a regulator for it as buying a total second hand unit(gamble) over here is a rip off.And most auto sparky's charge a arm for a rebuild and don't want to just replace the brushes.

  6. Those engines a plentiful over here and cheap from early Vn's and Vp's yet to see a E36 over here with one.But I'm sure there are a few lurking also there is a factory super charged v6 from a early Holden not sure what model(maybe a early statesman?) that might kick the power up in a underpowered E36 or E30 if you were to go that way.

  7. Hey guys and girls though I'd do and intro post im Jaz from Australia in Queensland drive a 95 E36 318i with a M43 Boston Green Sedan.Unfortunately its in the workshop having a front timing cover replaced $$$$. So i will have pics when its out again rolling the streets.Though i would join this site as i have had nothing but jap/aus cars prior to owning a euro. And there's no BMW forums over here to guide a newbie like me lol.Look forward to your words of wisdom and topical discussions...

    Thanks Jaz

  8. Looks rough but for $600 you guys over the ditch are so lucky to pick up BMW's so cheap even if there not roadworthy. We pay a arm and a leg even a foot to for stuff thats near binning for decent cash in oziland lol.The wheels do look good thou I'd buy it just for them alone.

  9. use a front door handle from a late model e36 about 97 onwards they dont have key hole.

then use a handle surround from the right rear door to cover the key hole after you remove the barrol from it.

and what say your remote fails how would you get in??

Thanks for that il see if i can find one over here or nz trade me.If the battery dies or the remote fails il call road assistance for the free break in service lol i guess

  10. Just a bit off topic i have a 95 E36 Sedan i was wondering if i got a pair of rear door handles from the same year and model.Could i replace my front handles so they won't have key locks anymore when i go for a key less entry alarm. Are they a straight fit swap over?any info would be great..

  11. I came across a pretty funny solution, people using garage door surrounds as 'home depot' lips lol.

    Any Advice?

Yeah you could use that garden strip material and cut it to shape . I'd make it secure if you were going in that direction or it could turn in to a projectile. Maybe you should try you local BMW wreckers as they might have a few E36 front bumpers that may have the lip still intact unless you went new or aftermarket.

  12. I recommend Bendix Ultimate's pads matched with Brembo rotors from any BNT.You could also go to Racebrakes in Kingsland Auckland and run EBC Greens great for the street they have a down side to them being a bit noisy when cold but great bite for street use.A bit more harsher on your rotors then the Bendix Ultimate's as for rotors i could only recommend Brembo's as the other option at BNT was Chinese rotors no offense to any one but i wouldn't run them on any cars i own.Hope that helps price wise you would save a lot but i would see what other members have to say.
