Hi All
I am new to this forum, new to BMW ownership and also new to NZ!
I moved to Auckland at the end of last year, and my wife's family has given us a 94 E36 325i coupe to use for the time being.
It has nearly 170k kms on the clock and is in pretty good nick overall.
The engine is strong but shows all the signs of failing Vanos - rattles and a 'tired' feel in the midrange, but plenty of top end power and torque when you really put your foot down.
I have read about the Beisan seals in a few places and this is clearly the way I am going to go to fix this. I'm a reasonably competent weekend mechanic, but most of my experience is on much older vehicles.
Does anyone in the Auckland area have the special tools to lock the camshafts and rotate the cam chain gears during installation?
In return for a refundable deposit and/or beer, may I borrow them over a weekend some time?
Thanks
Patrick
