  1. if it only happens when the aircon is switched on then its likely that it is either the aircon tensioner as above or perhaps the aircon pump bearings or clutch unit..

they havent replaced the aircon tensioner, so will check whn the car is back with them next week. Trust my luck it has stopped making the noise now. Will keep update as soon

    thanks for your input.

  2. I have a E46 328i - 2000 model that is making a high pitched squeeling noise when running.

So far - belt tension kit replaced, intake system checked and parts replaced, brakes checked by Claytons in Takapuna.

high pitched noise, does not change in volume or pitch when in motion or under acceleration. Think of a the noise you get then spinning metal on a lathe and cutting the metal (hope it makes sense)

I noticed it happens when it hot outside and I run the air con..

Any thoughts...Claytons are struggling to get it resolved and the noise is driving me crazy...

    thanks

  3. Thanks dude, this is great.

Which of the connectors would would this be OG or NG, the connector on the head unit on my car is like this

eBay.de is your friend here :-)

Hunt on TradeMe, maybe you find one there.

Tip1: make sure you know if you need a NewGen (NG) radio or an OldGen (OG) radio

Radio design, and car wiring, changed late 2001.

Post 2001 uses NG radio, different connector, different antenna amp

If you try and fit NG to an OG car, you need to add wiring loom adapters and change the antenna amp.

If you want to (eventually) add MP3 ID3 text etc then get the newest NG radio you can find.

Otherwise, if you are happy with plain CD, get the matching radio for your car.

Tip2: NG radios have the twin-display, and are world models. You can buy ex-Japan, USA, or Europe. OG radios are regional-specific, you need to buy from an NZ, AUS new car, or from Europe. Do not get an ex-Japan or ex-USA OG radio, the tuner is different, and wrong, for NZ.

Japan OG radio has a 'TRAFFIC' or 'TRF' button, so leave well alone.

  4. hello all, Im in need of advice and thoughts...i want to get the springs replaced in my E36 328i, have put new shocks in but want to reduce the roll when cornering. its very good at the moment, but lets face it it can be better. now the hard part i want to avoid lower the car much at all as i wont be able to get it down my drive, and it has a very good stance on the 17" it sits on. any idea's ? basically i want to race it one the weekend and take it to corporate lunch on a monday...jeckle and hyde thing...has anyone got any idea's? What is a good after market part to use? I was looking at King springs, but they are mass produced, am looking at H&R they seem to be tuned (to a certain degree), so any idea's.
