  1. Hey guys,

I have been looking at a 1987 E30 320i that has the facelift plastic fenders. I thought these were put on facelift models from '88 onwards to my knowledge.

Can anyone confirm this or was the change over date late in 1987 for plastic bumpers to be introduced? I only query because i have noticed the car also has the older style steering wheel as well.

Any light to shed on this would be helpful, cheers!

  2. Im not going to say they wil/wontl fit but itll be close...I'll check my clearances if you want? I've got 16x8/9 +7 on my E30...Needed to roll the guards a bit and they're a perfect fit, no rubbing on struts or anything it's barely a half inch difference offset and height wise compared to the 17's your suggesting.

    Thanks guys for the feedback!

I was looking at 16's initially but was offered the 17's for a decent price so was considering them. I looked up the wheel size and got a couple of pictures and liked the look but wasnt sure of the offset that these would be:

Yea Lucan if you could please let me know your clearance that would be great and was that +7 all round? What suspension setup are you running at the moment as well?

    Cheers.

  3. Hey guys,

I've been looking at a set of BBS RS 17x8.5 all round with offset of +15 for my E30 325i.

I'm just wondering if these would fit as I'm a bit of a noob on wheels especially with offset  . Any help or ideas would be appreciated especially tyre size as well.

My car isnt lowered at the moment but I have a set of KYB shocks and Vogtland lowering springs to be installed.

    Cheers.

  4. Hey guys,

Im having a problem with my '90 e30 325 where if i dont drive the vehicle for a couple of days then the battery always goes flat and i have to jump start the car. This has happened three times now.

What are possible reasons for the battery to constantly go flat or be drained? Any help would be great, thanks.

  5. Depending on the style of idle control valve you have, you can buy new ones here: http://www.pelicanparts.com/cgi-bin/smart/...%2D%39%31%29%20 for much less than 540.... or try cleaning it out with carb cleaner first, it's probably full of crap. Or just buy a good used one.

As for the control arm bushes, as Glenn said around $200* paying some one else to do it is a more realistic figure, if the control arms need to be replaced also, over here in NZ you can buy entire new control arms with balljoints for around $125NZD each.

    Hope that helps.

Thanks for that guys, yea I deff think I iwll be seeking further quotes as even I thought that was rather expensive for the work that needed to be carried out.

    Cheers

  6. If its only the bushes hes charging too much. I could do that for less than $200 without an alignment

I thought as much think I might try elsewhere, also another quick question there Glenn if you dont mind..

How much would you be looking at for a replacement Idle Air Control Valve? I was quoted $540.00 for part and labour and also advised a Coolant Flush would be need at an additional cost of $93.50?

  7. Hey guys,

I'm in Sydney ex Auckland but just thought I would ask the question as I'm bit of a newbie with suspension.

My mechanic that looked a my car advised that the bushes on the front lower control arm are cracked and this requires the whole front lower control arm to be replaced, does this sound correct?

Also I know its Aussie dollars but he has quoted $600 AUD to do this??

    Cheers,

  8. Shop in CHCH. And there were white ones on trademe a while back? I should sell you mine, hardly drive the car now, quite like the blue at night though. They also have a switch for green and a dimmer, but I don't use this. Red ones to match would be sweeet!

Got in contact with Autopassion and unfortunately they don't stock them for E30's anymore  So If anyone knows of anywhere else to get any coloured (pref red) AM gauges let me know.

    Cheers,

Thanks for that, yours look really good. Yea i've been looking at another E30 and it is infact red so would really have liked some to glow red to match original gauge colours aswell as the car. If anyone finds any that glow red let us know!!

  10. man those are cheap i got silver ones which were $180 from auto passion! easy to install take needles off and over-lay, just take original main dash bulbs out. The vacuum gauge needle was hard, just take your time.

    Cheers Chris,

Would you be able to post a pic of yours in daylight and at night just to see what they are like? Then might consider ordering some from auto passion as still abit wary of those ones on ebay.

    Cheers,

  11. If you have full insurance cover then you will need to make a claim with your insurer and they can attempt recovery from the third party if you wish to hold them at fault.

If the other party in the accident continues to dispute liability and you wish to take it further (to get your excess back if you made a claim) then you may end up having to take the third party to the Disputes Tribunal (if they are uninsured) otherwise your insurance company will liaise with theirs should they make a claim.

But as both of you have been issued with infringement tickets it will probably not be worth the time. Suggest making a claim with your insurer and gettin your car fixed at a good repairer of your choice but unfortunately this will affect your 'no claims bonus' but you will have your baby back repaired :)

Forgot to also put if you have those witness statements confirming you had a greenlight that will also help.
