  1. Monaco Blue Metallic and Black Leather interior. Christchurch.

We are reluctantly selling our fantastic 2006 BMW 650i. This car is a beast and goes like the clappers, but currently has some problems.

When we bought this car in 2018 it only had 9,000km on the clock and had been imported by the dealer. It apparently had one careful Japanese owner. We have had it serviced by Christchurch BMW. It is a six speed auto with Tiptronic.

However at it's last WOF it failed on the front stabilizer bar. It also needs a couple of new tyres for a WOF. In addition the Computer (CCC?) has failed. All up the estimate from ChCh BMW for all that (including the CCC and labour) was just over $10k. To cap it off it doesn't seem to want to hold a charge so is a pig to get started. However I imagine that someone who knew what they were doing could fix those things for less. However I don't know the first thing about fixing a modern car, and so we are sadly quitting the beast.

In this day and age a 4.8L V8 is not a politically correct statement, but a BMW fan will appreciate the rate at which their demerit points build up with this very grunty European Tourer :)

I know I am supposed to include a price, but I am open to offers. The picture is of the same model.

  2. I have a 2006 650i. I am wondering if it is a good idea to try the 100 Octane fuel available from NPD. See https://npd.co.nz/100plus-high-octane-petrol/. It says

    Quote

Compared to NPD Unleaded 91. Actual benefits may vary between different vehicles depending on engine design and operational
well-being, driving conditions and other factors. Some vehicles may require some degree of tuning to maximize the potential
benefits from 100Plus. We recommend you consult with your mechanic as to the suitability of NPD 100Plus for your vehicle.

    Anyone got any input?

  3. If the dealers can actually replace them, I am happy (apart from the excess and the reduction of no claims bonus!).

I wasn't even aware that there was a trade in fake Schnitzer wheels, I guess its like anything of value, fakes will abound.

I'll look at the back of the damaged wheel tonight for markings, it is sitting in my garage at home and is easier to get to the back than the ones on the car.

I'll take a good shot of the damage too so that you can all gasp at the power of potholes (and believe me there are plenty of the f***ing things around here, a new crop open up every day!)

  4. One of my E39's lovely Schnitzer wheels shat itself on a ChCh bumpy road. Not fixable.

Now I have 3 Schnitner 18" wheels and the spare which is a standard BMW 15 inch.

Does anyone know how/where I could source an identical replacement wheel. There doesn't seem to be a serial or model number on the schnitzer wheels, unless I don't know where to look, so I have attached a photo (I hope).

  5. Just yesterday someone wound down the left rear window in my 1996 E39 525i and now it won't wind up. All the other windows, sunroof, etc are functional. Doesn't matter whether I use the driver's switch or the one on the left rear door handle, or the keys or the remote. The fuses are all intact. Now I have also discovered the left front passenger door lock doesn't seem to operate via central locking.

Is my computer glitched to hell or what?

  6. I have just bought a 1996 E39 525i - in fact I am yet to pick it up. Never owned a Beamer before so am a stranger here.

The car has a factory radio/cassette head unit. The cassette bit is behind a foldaway panel above the radio bit. The lower bit also seems to be connected to the car computer etc.

There is an amplifier looking thing in the boot, and some leads for a cd stacker. Question is, what stackers are compatible? Does it have to be a BMW factory stacker, or can you use other brands? Sorry I know very little about stackers and the protocols they use.

Also, can anyone tell me if the radio is reprogrammable to NZ frequencies? I have read a howto on here, but it referred to post 2000 models I think (can't find the post again right now.)
