  2. Well here are my results so far

I tried 91 put $40 in was ok idled a little rough when cold economy was ok too, but not fantastic.

Tried the gull ethanol E85 felt good if giving it a bit, but very rough idle when cold and took ages to smooth out poor economy

Put $60 Mobil 95 nice smooth idle nice and responsive and good economy bar far the best so far.

Am going to try BP 98 and Gull force 10(98) and see how they go

I get about 9.5 km/ltr open road on the 95 around 7km/ltr round town

  3. We'll I'm happy, I did this today Subaru upper cylinder cleaner $21.50 from subaru.

easy to do let it soak and then started it smoked for a little bit but nothing like the videos on you tube. I guess that means there wasn't too much carbon in there which is good.

I followed the instructions to a tea so I'm sure I did it right. Felt good afterwards nice and smooth idle as well as a sharp responsive pickup

I'm going to try it again soon.

  4. Hi

I'm interested if anyone has used any products on there BMW or could make any recommendations about internal cleaning of the engine without pulling it apart

I have seen videos on YouTube of Seafoam and the likes. Not sure if it would be a good idea with a 540i though?

What do you think? is there anything recommended for these engines?

Or is it if it aint broke don't fix it.

    Cheers

  5. I have an NZ new manual E36 328is M-Sport M52 engine, 195k,

    Mileage - 3174km - 95 octane with 1 x Envirotab Octane pill per fill

    km - litre l/100k

    546 41.26 7.55

    568 45.9 8.08

    476 39.14 8.22

    529 46.6 8.81

    600 48.77 8.13

    455 39.74 8.73

32 to 38 mpg - includes track time

    My 318 Compact always averaged 6.7 to 7.3 l/100km - driven hard

Pays to keep an eye on the figures,

    Regards

    Paul - E36

    Great to hear

I should note what I put up is 7km/ltr which is about 14.2 ltr/100km (mixed driving)

I've never heard of the Envirotab I take it increase in octane? what is it like without it?

    cheers

  6. Hi

I'm interested in what has been used and the results.

    I recently brought a 1997 540i M62

I have put 95 Octane in it but have been told that these can run on 91 well? as they were designed from factory to go to Japan and USA where they run a lower octane 87 and 89.

    Is this true?

What would happen if you run it on 91 octane?

Also what is your fuel consumption like? km/l I get about 7km/l round town and a little bit of open road driving

    Cheers

  8. You have a high-performance luxury V12 car with state of the art engineering, and you want to make the radio work using the cheapest shittiest possible method?

The only way to make it REALLY work properly is to replace the Japanese Alpine C23 JAPAN radio module and fit either the Alpine C23 OCEANIA or the Philips Business RDS radio module (Oceania was std equipment for Oz/NZ, Business was std equipment for Europe)

Ask Hotwire on this forum or have a look at ebay Germany.

Advantage of the Business RDS unit: you get RDS functionality which shows you station names and song titles on some stations, and also allows you to tour long distance and never change frequency on some stations.

Remember: a band expander ruins the performance of the BMW system, as your car has 3 x FM antennas plus a antenna amplifier and switcher. Adding a band expander reduces radio performance terribly.

Please just fit the proper radio module. They can, in some cases, be cheaper than a band expander !!

Thanks for your help, I don't want to cheapen the car in any way :)

But some of the stations I have to listen to get a bit boring after a while

Will try and upgrade it to your recommendations then Thanks

  9. e

the tuner module is the third row back in the back left corner of the boot.

its goes cd changer then amplifier then the tuner module .

looks like a std car stereo but with no face plate or buttons .

but i thought that these units could be switched over to NZ freq ??

So if I get to this there should be a aerial connection I can put a band expander on? or am I wrong

I think they can be reprogrammed after 2000.

    Mine is a 1997

    Cheers

  10. I'm wanting to get all NZ Radio stations.

I don't want to try and replace the head unit as it does the trip computer and all the other gadgets and it's not a standard size hole.

I've pulled the whole thing out and there is no aerial connection that I can find even in the boot I pulled the Stacker out and Amp etc still no Ariel connection

Can anyone give me any hope or have I missed something to be able to put a band expander in??

    Any help would be great

    Cheers
