Hello All.
I have a 96 528 e39 with a 5HP18..
Now, the gearbox has developed an issue, it likes to drop 1st and reverse, usually when stopped,
sometimes when driving, and has got rapidly worse. 2nd and above seem ok.
Now, I've done there usuals, changed fluid, checked filter, checked for metal in sump, checked
levels, etc. There was a very small amount of filings in the sump, probably not a huge suprise on
a 140,000k box that looked like original fluid. None of this helps.
Now, I know there is an issue with a different HP box (5hp30 I think?) in the valve body that sounds
EXACTLY like this one, however I have not heard of it in a 5hp18.
Anyone have any ideas, and beyond that, is there any recommendation for the best place in auckland
that actually knows there way around these gearboxes?
Any pointers, ideas, or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
